Competition 3400 invited you to write poems to mark YouTube's 20th birthday. This challenge drew a large, accomplished entry which was both amusing and informative. Alex Steelsmith's double dactylic submission was a strong contender for a place in the winning line-up, as were Bill Greenwell, Mike Morrison, Frank McDonald, David Silverman, Elizabeth Kay and Janine Beacham. But the John Lewis vouchers are awarded to those poems printed below.
I am the very model of a modern-day YouTuberist,
The cornucopia of its gifts creates for me a catalyst,
Since first I saw 'Me at the Zoo' my mood's been irrepressible
And now in all my waking hours I beam up what's accessible:
The medieval manuscripts and cheerful facts historical,
Like who beheaded what's-his-name, for YouTube is my oracle.
And Baby Shark Dance floats my boat, though hardly educational,
While Fenton! Fenton chasing deer will always be sensational.
The music choice is limitless, I fix myself a rendez-vous
With Handel oratorios and then Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You'.
If anything is on the blink and proving unreliable
A video will show me how to make the damn thing viable.
For twenty years it's been my guide, I've 'liked' and 'shared' religiously
And through my online searching I have watched it grow prodigiously.
I say without a doubt, and my opinion is unprejudiced,
YouTube's the very model for a modern-day YouTuberist.

YouTube has stopped working on 5 popular phones - so, is your device on the list?

It's the go-to video app for millions of people around the world. But if you use YouTube, you might want to check that the app is still running on your smartphone. The Google-owned app has quietly updated its iOS app to version 20.22.1, and now requires iOS 16 or later to install and run. That means several older iPhone models are no longer compatible with the app. The affected devices are those that cannot upgrade beyond iOS 15. So that's the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the first-generation iPhone SE. Alternatively, if you have an iPod Touch 7, you won't be able to watch YouTube on that either. The news has not gone down well across social media, with one user venting: 'My iphone 6s is slowly becoming obselete.' It's the go-to video app for millions of people around the world. But if you use YouTube , you might want to check that the app is still running on your smartphone YouTube quietly made the change in version 20.22.1, which was released on 2 June. On the App Store, YouTube describes this version as having 'bug fixes, performance improvements, and more cat videos.' However, in the fine print, it also now states that it requires iOS 16.0 or later to run on iPhone, as well as iPad 16.0 or later to run on iPad. Unfortunately, that means the app has been discontinued for the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. Several disgruntled users have taken to X to discuss the news. 'WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLANET I HAVE AN IPHONE 6S,' one user asked. Another wrote: 'This is strange because the YouTube app is just streaming video from a server, and many devices with much less power can still do that fine.' And one joked: 'What a long ride its been, iPhone 6S,' alongside the saluting emoji. However, others were quick to point out a sneaky loophole - watching YouTube on Safari, rather than through the app. 'When stuck you could always just use YouTube on safari like god intended,' one user suggested. Another added: 'I've never used the app. Always from browser.' To make sure you can still use YouTube on your phone, it is essential that you update to at least iOS 16 or higher - even if you are using a newer, compatible device. To check which operating system you are currently using, simply open the Settings app, select General, and tap on the 'About' tab. Under the heading 'Version' you will be able to see the currently installed iteration of iOS. If you do need to update your iPhone, from Settings navigate to the tab labelled 'General' and select 'Software Update'. If a newer version of iOS is available, you can press 'Install Now' to begin the update. To ensure you always get the latest software and security updates, you can also consider activating automatic updates by selecting 'Automatic Updates' on the 'Software Update' page.

'Love Island USA' contestant exits after clips of racist language surface online

Yulissa Escobar will not be finding love in the villa on Season 7 of "Love Island USA." The 27-year-old from Miami exited the show on the second day after video clips surfaced online that appear to show Escobar using racist language while on a podcast. In two podcast clips shared by TMZ, Escobar used racial slurs when talking about men and relationship drama. Escobar's abrupt exit was not given any context on the show. "Welcome back to Love Island USA," series narrator Iain Stirling said at the top of day two, which aired Wednesday. "Yulissa has left the villa." Although it is unclear exactly when Escobar left the show's villa in Fiji, she was last shown sleeping during the first night with 22-year-old Ace Greene, with whom she coupled up during the first episode. Escobar coupled up with Greene after he was already paired up with another contestant, Chelley Bissainthe. It is also unclear if Escobar was edited out of the show. "Love Island USA" is streaming on Peacock, which NBCUniversal owns. Peacock confirmed to NBC News that Escobar left the villa, but did not offer specific details on the reason for her departure. Escobar, who owns a mobile bar in Miami, has not yet publicly spoken on the backlash. She last shared photos from the first day in the villa on her Instagram story on Wednesday night. She did not immediately respond to an NBC News request for comment. During cast introductions shared on YouTube, Escobar revealed she was in a 9-year relationship prior to coming on the show. Her mother was born in Cuba, and her father was born in Missouri. "I could be fire, so don't play with fire because you might burned, baby," Escobar said in a clip shared on Instagram.

Loose Women's Kaye Adams battled 'sleepless nights' over ITV's budget cuts

Loose Women's Kaye Adams battled 'sleepless nights' over ITV's budget cuts The 62-year-old presenter has been a regular panellist and host on 'Loose Women', the broadcaster's afternoon talk show, since it began in 1999 Kaye Adams joined Loose Women in 1999 (Image: ITV ) Kaye Adams has battled "sleepless nights" over ITV's budget cuts. The 62-year-old presenter has been a regular panellist and host on 'Loose Women', the broadcaster's afternoon talk show, since it began in 1999, and Kaye has admitted ITV's "out of the blue" move to air the show for 30 instead of 52 weeks of the year from 2026 has made her feel uncomfortable. ‌ Speaking on her 'How to be 60' podcast, she admitted: "It did come out of the blue. ‌ "I didn't anticipate it, which is probably stupid in retrospect. You get into a sort of rhythm of life. "I had a couple of sleepless nights I have to say, because it's just like the rug's been pulled from under your feet – what has been familiar." ITV is also axing over 220 jobs, and Kaye branded that decision as "terrible". Article continues below She said: "It's going to have an impact. Lots of people will lose their jobs completely which is terrible. It's a huge change." Despite Kaye thinking the dramatic change at ITV is "hard" to come to terms with, she does suspect that it could be a force of good for the future. She said: "But I gave myself a talking to and I listened to my own advice for once – change is hard, but it can be good. ‌ "The past is a trap, don't fear the future – I'm telling myself all these things. And maybe this is the nudge that I needed to make some changes in my life and I'll just have to go with it." Fellow 'Loose Women' panellist Nadia Sawalha recently admitted she felt "tearful" about the budget cuts at ITV, and she fears how the broadcaster's new plans could impact employees who work behind the scenes. The 60-year-old actress said on her YouTube channel: "What's been brutal, absolutely brutal, over the last week, honestly I feel tearful about it, is that hundreds of people ... are going to be made redundant out of the blue, these are all the people behind the scenes that support us in every way." ‌ And Nadia - who, like Kaye, has been a regular panellist on 'Loose Women' since the show's launch - revealed she and her fellow stars could be "let off" at any moment from the programme due to their self-employed contract. She explained: "What people don't realise at 'Loose Women' is that we're self-employed, I am self-employed. Every contract is a new contract. "I could be let go tomorrow, I could be let go in five years - you don't know because we're not employees." ‌ As well as 'Loose Women', the morning magazine show 'Lorraine' will now operate on a 30-week "seasonal basis", while a raft of shows will be broadcast from a new location in central London. Kevin Lygo, the managing director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, recently said the broadcaster was going through a "transition". He said: "I recognise that our plans will have an impact on staff off-screen in our Daytime production teams. Article continues below "We will work with ITV Studios and ITN as they manage these changes to produce the shows differently from next year, and support them through this transition. "Daytime has been a core element of ITV's schedule for over 40 years and these changes will set ITV up to continue to bring viewers award-winning news, views and discussion as we enter our eighth decade."
