Zamalek newly appointed coach Yannick Ferrera vows to meet fans' expectations - Egyptian Football
The 44-year-old Belgian signed a one-year deal with the Cairo giants, replacing interim coach Ayman El-Ramady ahead of the 2025/26 Egyptian Premier League season, which begins on 8 August.
'I held quick negotiations with Zamalek's management as we shared a mutual desire to work together,' Ferrera said in comments published on the club's official website.
'Zamalek is one of the biggest clubs in Egypt. I read that they were the best club of the 20th century, and I hope now to make them the best of the 21st century,' he added.
The Belgian coach pledged full commitment from day one.
'If we work together, we will achieve victories. I promise Zamalek's supporters that the players will fight from the first day to the last,' he said.
Ferrera arrived in Cairo late on Thursday to finalise the deal and begin preparations for the new season.
He brings experience from Belgium's top flight, having previously managed Standard Liege and Sint-Truiden.
He won the Belgian Cup with Standard Liege in the 2015–16 season and led Sint-Truiden to promotion from the Belgian Second Division in 2014.

Liverpool players joined family and friends for the funeral of their teammate Diogo Jota and his brother on Saturday, two days after the siblings died in a car crash in Spain. Their bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family. A wake was held for them on Friday. Jota's death occurred two weeks after he married long-time partner Rute Cardoso while on vacation from a long season where he helped Liverpool win the Premier League. The couple had three children, the youngest born last year. Jota was born in Porto but started his playing career as a child on nearby Gondomar. Silva played for Portuguese club Penafiel in the lower divisions. Their loss led to an outpouring of condolences from the soccer world and Portuguese officials. Brazil starlet Estevao 'ready' for Chelsea move: Palmeiras coach
Estevao, 18, scored a fantastic equaliser in the Club World Cup quarter-final between the teams in Philadelphia but could not prevent Chelsea claiming a 2-1 win thanks to a late own-goal. He will now complete a move to the London club, finally heading to England just over a year after Chelsea agreed to pay Palmeiras a reported 57 million euros ($67.1m), including bonuses, for him. "I don't have sons, I have two daughters, but he is my son," Ferreira said after the match at Lincoln Financial Field, adding that he had exchanged words with Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca about Estevao. "I spoke before with Maresca. He is a nice coach, and I told him that they bought an amazing player but more than this they bought an amazing person. "He is an amazing player and I said that they need to take care of him and embrace him because for sure in the beginning he will make mistakes, but you saw today that he is a player with a lot of skills who can win a game on his own. He has that capacity." Estevao was named the best player in the Brazilian league last year and has shown plenty of glimpses of his potential at the Club World Cup. Now he must try to win a place in the Chelsea team in the face of stiff competition, with Maresca having a wide array of attacking options at his disposal. "For sure he will need the support of the coach and directors because he is young and it is the first time he is leaving his country," Ferreira added. "I told him it won't be the same because the sun comes out two or three times a year, the night comes early, but I believe Chelsea have all the conditions to support him. "He is a fantastic player and I think he is ready." 'Huge talent' Ferreira, the Portuguese coach who has been in charge of Palmeiras since 2020, earlier hugged Estevao in front of reporters, with the player smiling despite the disappointment of his team's exit. Maresca said: "I spoke to Estevao for the first time after the game and told him it was the perfect night because we won and he scored. "You can see he is a huge talent, a fantastic player, and the only thing for me is that when you come from South America or in general another part of the world to Europe, you need to adapt. "So we need to help him to adapt and first of all to be happy, continue to enjoy football, but we don't have any doubt because he is such a good player that he is going to be a very important player for Chelsea." Another future Chelsea player, Jamie Gittens, was in attendance in Philadelphia with the England Under-21 international winger joining from Borussia Dortmund. Bayern Club World Cup clash with PSG a 'perfect storm': Kompany
Both Luis Enrique's PSG and Kompany's Bayern, champions of the French and German leagues respectively, like to dominate the ball, press high and play attacking football. "You have teams who are able to make a lot of good use of the ball in nearly every game, against deep blocks, high presses, everything," Kompany told a news conference Friday. "That creates a sort of, what we've seen here a lot, thunderstorm, right? It's a perfect storm. These games are always interesting, and... I would pay to watch it." Bayern and PSG can rest easy on Saturday because of the roof at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta which means there will be no storm disruption, and Kompany said the match would be one to savour. "If I was a neutral, I would come to see this game, for sure," he said. "Both teams have quite 'extreme' principles, which is why it's usually an interesting game." Despite the obvious strength of the Champions League winners, Kompany said there was no side he would rather face than the Parisians. "There's no reason to think that they're not going to be absolutely at their best tomorrow, but I think it's the type of challenge you like," he explained. "If I could pick one team to face, as a professional athlete, as a competitor, it's always the winners, and they are the winners, so we get a chance to play against them. "It's tough, it's the toughest game, maybe, but that's why we're here, so I wouldn't have it any other way." 'Completely over the top' The Belgian coach also hailed his PSG counterpart Luis Enrique, who won the treble with the French side. In November PSG lost 1-0 against Bayern but Kompany said criticism of the Spaniard at the time was greatly overblown. "I could follow (his press conference) on one of the big screens and all the questions that were asked to him were completely over the top," said Kompany. "Really tough questions, big statements, everything is over, you failed in your job, you can do nothing -- all these big statements. "But I remember watching his team before we played them, most games they should have won 5-0 but somehow it was 1-1 or they lost, so it wasn't reflective of the spirit of the team... (or) of the dominance they had in every game." Kompany said he was happy to see Luis Enrique's determination rewarded. "It's nice to see that in those moments consistency paid off for him, but most importantly that he was strong enough to continue," said the coach. "It's not a compliment I'm giving, it's just a fact... it's just interesting to do this (rematch) six months fast forward, and to see how much things can change."
