Statements from 24 individuals recorded in connection with hazardous cargo imported through KLIA
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded statements from 24 individuals to assist in investigations regarding the importation of hazardous goods via cargo at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for elements of corruption.
According to sources, the individuals summoned include employees from three companies, as well as officers and staff from three enforcement agencies at KLIA.
"The investigation was conducted following activities linked to importing hazardous chemicals that did not adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP), thereby exposing KLIA to security threats.
"Based on preliminary investigations, the chemicals were declared as accessory products or household items to mislead the authorities," the source said.
Meanwhile, MACC intelligence division senior director Datuk Idris Zaharudin said that the commission is currently identifying governance weaknesses that allowed these hazardous goods to be easily imported.
He added that an investigation paper has been opened by the governance investigation division to examine governance, administration, management and enforcement weaknesses that facilitated the easy importation of these dangerous items. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) tactical squad was seen entering the residence of a 'Tan Sri' in Bandar Tasik Selatan this morning, as part of investigations into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for a Klang Valley highway project. Four vehicles from MACC's Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad (ACTS), including two white vans, a Nissan Grand Livina, and a Honda City, arrived at the property at around 10.50am, with officers visibly armed, according to a report published in The Star today. Earlier at 8.45am, a white Toyota Vios carrying MACC officers was also seen entering the premises, where part of the entrance had been sealed off by private auxiliary police with cones and barriers. Members of the media were barred from approaching the area. The latest development follows a six-hour session yesterday during which the Tan Sri's statement was recorded between 9am and 3.07pm. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki previously confirmed that the highway concessionaire involved is considered a key witness in the case. As part of the ongoing probe, 45 individuals who had earlier provided statements were recalled for further questioning. On June 3, MACC revealed it had seized assets valued at approximately RM143 million, believed to be linked to the misuse of sukuk funds meant for the infrastructure project. Video clip case: At least two individuals to be charged, says Azam Baki
BANGI: At least two individuals are expected to be charged in connection with a video clip of the alleged corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said he will make the announcement of the prosecution of the two individuals soon. "I will announce in a very short time the charging of the individuals in the case," he told reporters after attending the second MACC Law Enforcement Accredited Programme Convocation. It was reported that the MACC has completed the investigation paper regarding a video clip of the alleged corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman. According to a source, the investigation paper was sent to the prosecution for review two weeks ago.
