RM3.6 mln invested in 14 parks, recreational projects across Pujut, says rep
MIRI (July 13): A total of 14 parks and recreational projects have been implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for the Pujut constituency between 2022 and 2024, amounting to RM3.6 million, said its assemblyman Mayor Adam Yii.
He added that the development of parks and recreational area had been one of his key priorities since taking office as an assemblyman, in efforts to promote healthy living and enhance community well-being.
'Parks and recreation are very important because we need to provide space for residents to exercise and relax,' he said.
He emphasised that particular attention had been given to ensuring neighbourhoods in his constituency are equipped with recreational spaces for the benefit of the residents.
Yii made the remarks during a briefing session and Minor Rural Project (MRP) handing-over ceremony, held at the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Pujut service centre yesterday.
The projects, according to him, are located across three key zones in the constituency: Pujut, Piasau and Krokop.
'Sub-areas include Pujut Adong, Piasau Utara, Piasau Garden, Piasau Jaya, and several smaller areas within Krokop.
'The implemented projects include Pujut 2 walkway, Pocket Park Pujut, Pujut Adong New Pocket Park in the Pujut area.

'For the Krokop area, the projects include Krokop Jaya basketball court, Krokop Yakin basketball court, and Krokop Rock Garden.'
Yii noted that only two projects were implemented within the Pujut area due to a shortage of available state land for development.
'While most of the projects have been completed, there are projects that will proceed for second and third phases,' he added.
During the event, Yii also presented the Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds totalling RM89,000 to various associations.

Bandar Kuching MP calls for temporary halt to ART works in Taman Stutong Indah
Lam assisted and mediated discussions between the residents, Sarawak Metro, and the ART contractors, resulting in several immediate measures being agreed upon to address the residents' concerns. KUCHING (July 30): Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has called on Sarawak Metro to temporarily halt all Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) works in Taman Stutong Indah until a stakeholder dialogue can be convened and the residents' concerns have been fully addressed. Dr Yii said his office will send a formal letter requesting a meeting with Sarawak Metro and the project's designer‑consultant to review the ART track's alignment and design in full transparency. 'It is vital for all stakeholders to be involved so that every concern is addressed constructively,' he said in the statement today. Meanwhile, Dr Yii said his special assistant, George Lam, has successfully assisted and mediated discussions between the residents, Sarawak Metro, and the ART contractors, resulting in several immediate measures being agreed upon to address the residents' concerns. 'Sarawak Metro and the contractors have agreed to instal metal hoardings to prevent dust and debris from spreading to the surrounding residential area during construction. 'They have also committed to improving traffic management in the area and to issuing prior notices to residents if any closures or diversions could affect road access to the housing estate. 'To maintain the cleanliness of the surrounding area, the contractors have instructed their workers to properly dispose of all construction waste and rubbish. 'Furthermore, the contractors will direct their workers to avoid parking their vehicles directly in front of residential units in order to ensure better accessibility and privacy for the residents in the area,' he said. Dr Yii stressed that while the ART project promises long-term benefits for Kuching, its implementation must not compromise the well-being of neighbouring communities. 'As MP, I believe it is my duty to act as a bridge between the people and the authorities, ensuring that development projects are implemented responsibly with minimal disruption to the surrounding community,' he said. Dr Yii said his office will continue to follow up on these measures, maintain open communication among all parties, and convene further dialogue sessions as necessary for the good of the people.

Lee (second left) presents an MRP cheque for Musolla Al-Azhar of Lutong Fire Station, received by station chief Henry Jugah. MIRI (July 26): A total of 97 non-government organisations (NGO), associations, religious bodies, and clubs here have been awarded Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants amounting to RM601,100. The grants were presented by Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin assemblyman, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, during a two-session ceremony today, due to the high number of recipients. In his speech, Lee emphasised the importance of unity and inclusivity, urging all people – regardless of race or background – to work together as one community. 'Unity among all Sarawakians is the most important factor in driving the state's continued development and prosperity,' he said. 'Whether you are Penan, Kelabit, Orang Ulu, Indian, Malay, or Chinese; if you are born and live here, you are Sarawakian,' he added. Lee noted that the MRP grants are meant to complement existing government programmes, particularly in promoting unity and creating more job and business opportunities. He also praised Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the state's ongoing infrastructure transformation, citing the successful completion of 16 bridges statewide. 'We now have 16 completed bridges fully funded by the Sarawak government – no more ferries, even long bridges over one kilometre have been built,' Lee said. He also announced that a 17th bridge has been approved for Miri, stretching 1,850 metres from Miri Golf Club to the Miri City Council area. 'Miri tidak kalah lah (Miri is not left behind),' Lee quipped. 'I told our Premier that Bintulu has its iconic bridge, so Miri deserves one too.' Lee also thanked the residents of Miri for their support in making the recent Sarawak Day celebration a success. 'All the events went smoothly with the cooperation of everyone. Well done to the people of Miri,' he said.
