‘Future Nurses Bahrain' Initiative Joins Youth City 2030 to Inspire the Next Generation
Launched in 2018, Future Nurses Bahrain is a national initiative led by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) - Medical University of Bahrain with the endorsement of His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health.
As part of this collaboration, a series of interactive workshops aims to engage and educate visitors about the nursing profession and some nursing skills. The workshops also provide a platform for participants to explore nursing as a professional career through a hands-on learning experience.
The sessions led by the University's Community Engagement team, more than 10 nursing alumni with the support of five nursing students, reflects RCSI Medical University of Bahrain's commitment to drawing on both academic expertise and real-world professional experience to inspire the next generation.
Participation in Youth City 2030 underscores Future Nurses Bahrain's goal to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals, while fostering a deeper appreciation of the nursing profession's contribution to community health and wellbeing.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr Eman Tawash, Senior Lecturer in Nursing, Deputy Head of School of Nursing and Midwifery and Lead of Future Nurses Bahrain, stated:
'The workshops were designed to foster discovery and give young Bahrainis a first-hand look into the world of nursing, breaking down misconceptions, and removing the barriers that may deter them from considering the profession. Through meaningful engagement and real-life interaction with our nursing alumni, students and team, we aim to inspire future leaders in nursing who will consider the profession as a sustainable option in the growing healthcare sector.'

H.E. Interior Minister sets sights on full national coverage
TDT | Manama Bahrain has moved a step closer to becoming a fully WHO-accredited 'Healthy Cities' nation after Muharraq and Northern Governorates received official recognition under the global programme. Interior Minister His Excellency General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa received the accreditation certificates from Lieutenant-General H.E. Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council of Health, and Health Minister H.E. Dr. Jalila bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan during a meeting in Manama. He congratulated the governorates on what he described as a national achievement, citing the effort of local communities and officials in meeting WHO's comprehensive criteria. The Interior Minister directed the Southern Governorate to intensify its work to meet international standards, in a bid to declare all of Bahrain's governorates as officially recognised healthy zones. He stressed that the Healthy Cities Project is aligned with Bahrain's sustainable development goals and reflects its broader push for community-led health and wellbeing under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Northern Governorate received its WHO accreditation following an evaluation visit in November 2024. Muharraq passed its assessment in February 2025.

RCSI Medical University of Bahrain unveils state-of-the-art sewage water treatment plant in major step towards campus environmental sustainability
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) - Medical University of Bahrain is proud to announce the installation of its new Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Sewage Treatment Plant, marking a significant milestone in the University's commitment to sustainability and innovative environmental solutions. This advanced, high-capacity facility has been designed to transform wastewater into reusable water, thereby significantly reducing the University's environmental footprint. The MBR Sewage Treatment Plant is capable of processing up to 150 cubic metres (150,000 litres) per day — equivalent to 55,000 cubic metres annually — ensuring it can meet the needs of the campus both now and into the future. The system has been purpose-built to accommodate the anticipated demands of the University's growth, including the forthcoming New Academic Building, by managing future wastewater requirements sustainably. The treated water is efficiently recycled and repurposed specifically for landscape irrigation, conserving potable water resources and supporting the University's green campus initiatives. Underscoring RCSI Medical University of Bahrain's drive to minimise its carbon impact, the new plant operates predominantly on renewable energy from the campus solar farm, as it is fully integrated with the University's solar-powered electricity grid. This synergy between clean energy and water conservation exemplifies the University's holistic approach to environmental stewardship. Mr Stephen Harrison-Mirfield, Managing Director of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, commented: 'At RCSI Medical University Bahrain, sustainability is a guiding principle of our operations. This new sewage treatment plant is the latest infrastructure investment for the future of our campus, which reflects our commitment to environmental sustainability and our responsibility toward the wider community.
