PU V-C proposes drone tech centre at campus

In a push towards inter-university collaboration and academic innovation, vice-chancellors from various public universities of Punjab participated in a high-level meeting at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana on Wednesday. Organised as part of a series of interactions initiated by the Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, under the group coordinatorship of Panjab University vice chancellor Renu Vig, the meeting focused on enhancing academic cooperation, effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and tackling shared challenges in higher education across the state. Vig proposed joint efforts to establish a drone technology centre at PU. She stressed that using the drone tech centre at PU, and the agricultural knowledge base of PAU, GADVASU, a model village can be established for implementation of best technologies in the field of agriculture. She commended the governor's initiative in fostering academic convergence and emphasised PU's commitment to interdisciplinary innovation, highlighting its collaboration with IIT Ropar, which is recognised as a centre of excellence in artificial intelligence for agriculture. Vig also visited the Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, where she engaged in a session with alumni and leading industrialists of the Ludhiana region to discuss collaborative strategies for academic upliftment and student development. The interactive dialogue featured senior industry leaders including Onkar Singh Pahwa (Avon Cycles), SS Bhogal (Bhogal Sales Corporation) and Komal Jain (Duke Fashions) among others. She also met SP Oswal, chairman, Vardhman Group, to thank him for the ₹1 crore grant to SAIF PU and assured that PU would further the interests of industries in the region.

CHAKRA by MUHS: A new nucleus for healthcare innovation and education

Nagpur: In a major step towards transforming health education and research in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) launched CHAKRA — Centre for Health, Applied Knowledge & Research Autonomy on Sunday. Designed as a Centre of Excellence, CHAKRA is set to act as the central hub for innovative, technology-enabled, and socially relevant healthcare education and research. Nagpur, being a hub of medical education with two state-run medical colleges and hospitals, will play an important role in the success of this initiative. "CHAKRA, a symbolic name, also represents a revolving, integrated model of continuous improvement and innovation in health sciences," said registrar of MUHS, Dr Rajendra Bangal. He explained the concept after CM Devendra Fadnavis launched this project on Sunday at MUHS Headquarters in Nashik. "CHAKRA aims to advance applied health research, promote digital learning and simulations, support faculty development, foster startups and innovation in healthcare, and improve clinical practice through data and research," he said. CHAKRA will function as the 'hub', while MUHS-affiliated medical colleges will act as 'spokes' in a decentralised yet unified system. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo This hub-and-spoke model is expected to ensure equitable access to high-quality medical education, training, and healthcare innovations across urban and rural Maharashtra. For UG/PG students, CHAKRA matters a lot because it ensures exposure to simulation-based learning, interdisciplinary research opportunities, and skill-building initiatives tailored to real-world challenges. For faculty, it will serve as opportunities for collaborative research, pedagogy improvement, and access to global knowledge platforms. For doctors and healthcare workers in the state, CHAKRA will be a space for lifelong learning, policy-impacting research, and innovations that can be implemented in clinical settings. For society, it is expected to channel innovations and research towards affordable, accessible, and community-relevant healthcare solutions, particularly for rural populations. With a clear 150-day action plan, a dedicated Rs 14.80 crore funding, and a future-ready vision, CHAKRA is positioned to become a beacon for healthcare education and research not only in Maharashtra but nationally. MUHS has clearly stated that CHAKRA will prioritise genetic health, public health research, digital tools, and community-driven healthcare models. The centre also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) and the govt's vision of a self-reliant, health-secure India. IISc Bengaluru develops nanozymes to prevent excess clotting

BENGALURU: A team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, have developed a new method which will help control abnormal blood clotting conditions, including Pulmonary Thromboembolism (PTE). The team from Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry have developed an artificial metal-based nanosyme that mimics the activity of natural antioxidant enzymes which help in clotting blood. The research paper — Vanadia Nanozymes Inhibit Platelet Aggregation, Modulate Signaling Pathways and Prevent Pulmonary Embolism in Mice — published on May 11 was made public on Tuesday. It explained that under normal circumstances, when a blood vessel is injured, specialised blood cells called platelets get activated and cluster together around the vessel to form protective blood clots. This process is known as blood clotting cascade (haemostasis). But when this does not happen in conditions like PTE or diseases like Covid-19, the oxidative stress and levels of toxic Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) increases, leading to over-activation of platelets. This triggers the formation of excess clots in the blood vessel, contributing to thrombosis, a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The nanomaterials developed by the researchers mimic the activity of natural antioxidant enzymes and they control the ROS levels, thereby preventing the over-activation of platelets that leads to excess clot formation or thrombosis, the report stated. The team synthesised redox active nanomaterials of different sizes, shapes and morphologies through a series of controlled chemical reactions starting from small building blocks. They then isolated platelets from human blood, activated them using physiological agonists, and tested how effectively the different nanozymes could prevent excess platelet aggregation, the researchers explained in the report. Sherin GR, PhD student and co-author of the paper said, they found spherical-shaped vanadium pentoxide nanozymes were the most efficient. These material mimic a natural antioxidant enzyme called glutathione peroxidase to reduce oxidative stress. 'The unique chemistry of the vanadium metal is crucial because the redox reactions that reduce ROS levels are happening on the surface of the vanadium nanomaterial,' added G Mugesh, Professor, and co-author of the paper.
