PU V-C proposes drone tech centre at campus
In a push towards inter-university collaboration and academic innovation, vice-chancellors from various public universities of Punjab participated in a high-level meeting at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana on Wednesday. Organised as part of a series of interactions initiated by the Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, under the group coordinatorship of Panjab University vice chancellor Renu Vig, the meeting focused on enhancing academic cooperation, effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and tackling shared challenges in higher education across the state.
Vig proposed joint efforts to establish a drone technology centre at PU. She stressed that using the drone tech centre at PU, and the agricultural knowledge base of PAU, GADVASU, a model village can be established for implementation of best technologies in the field of agriculture. She commended the governor's initiative in fostering academic convergence and emphasised PU's commitment to interdisciplinary innovation, highlighting its collaboration with IIT Ropar, which is recognised as a centre of excellence in artificial intelligence for agriculture.
Vig also visited the Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, where she engaged in a session with alumni and leading industrialists of the Ludhiana region to discuss collaborative strategies for academic upliftment and student development. The interactive dialogue featured senior industry leaders including Onkar Singh Pahwa (Avon Cycles), SS Bhogal (Bhogal Sales Corporation) and Komal Jain (Duke Fashions) among others.
She also met SP Oswal, chairman, Vardhman Group, to thank him for the ₹1 crore grant to SAIF PU and assured that PU would further the interests of industries in the region.

Mumbai University to launch skill-integrated UG courses from next year
In a major academic shift aimed at boosting student employability, Mumbai University (MU) is likely to roll out skill-integrated undergraduate programs — BA, and — from the next academic year. The move is aligned with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines that advocate industry-oriented learning to address sector-specific skill gaps. As per UGC guidelines in this regard, 50 percent of the total credits in these degree programs will be allotted to core academic subjects, while the remaining 50 percent will be dedicated to short-term, skill-based courses. These industry-aligned modules are intended to train students in fields such as real estate, insurance, and marketing — areas where dedicated academic training is currently lacking. 'There are several emerging industries with growing demand for trained manpower, but no corresponding courses in higher education,' said M Jagadesh Kumar, former UGC Chairperson, speaking in Mumbai on Saturday. 'The UGC has formed a committee to identify such gaps. With the support of industry partners, we aim to create hybrid-mode short-term courses to offer credits to students. Universities too are encouraged to create such courses meeting local industry requirements.' MU officials confirmed that groundwork laid to begin offering these revamped programs from the 2025-26 academic year onwards. The shift is expected to mark a significant overhaul of the traditional undergraduate education structure. Additionally, universities are encouraged to offer a new model combining academics and hands-on industry experience. Under this, students will spend two years on campus and two years apprenticing with industry partners. 'For instance, a BA Journalism student will study theory for two years and work in a media house for the next two, with the industry also involved in their evaluation,' Kumar explained. He emphasised that such students will have an edge over others when they enter the job market. 'They will already have an understanding of the industry with their experience of two years,' he said. Kumar was in the city for the western zone conference of VIKAS 2025 — a national initiative promoting industry-academia collaboration as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. What is your vision for IIM Raipur over the next five years? Over the next five years, IIM Raipur envisions becoming a global hub of management education and research by investing ₹250 crore to enhance its academic, residential, and IT infrastructure to accommodate 1,200 students. The institute aims to launch dual-degree MIM programmes in collaboration with leading institutions in the USA, UK, Germany, and France, and make its Case House (CHIRP) the largest multilingual case repository in India by 2030. Additionally, it plans to establish five Centres of Excellence in areas such as digital transformation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and inclusive growth. A practice-oriented journal inspired by California Management Review is planned by 2028, along with efforts to double research output and enhance international reputation through high-impact publications and global collaborations. IIM Raipur also aims to secure prestigious accreditations such as AACSB and EQUIS while transforming into a sustainable, carbon-neutral campus by 2030. Q2. How is IIM Raipur evolving its curriculum to stay relevant in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, sustainability imperatives, and shifting geopolitical dynamics? IIM Raipur is continuously evolving its curriculum. The institute has introduced new courses in emerging areas such as blockchain, generative AI, design thinking, and data science, aligning with the technological transformations in the global economy. Through experiential learning approaches, including real-world projects, case studies, and interactive teaching methods, IIM Raipur fosters critical thinking and application-based learning. The curriculum modernisation also reflects the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with initiatives such as a flexible PhD structure, interdisciplinary offerings, and programmes promoting Indian ethos through translated India-focused case studies. This forward-looking curriculum design is complemented by initiatives like 'Lounge Intellect' (LIT), a forum for teaching innovations, and a strong focus on holistic development with ethics, leadership, and societal impact at its core. In 2024, IIM Raipur and the University of Wolverhampton, UK, signed an MoU to strengthen educational collaboration. Additionally, IIM Raipur partners with Birmingham City University to advance academic and research excellence. Beyond formal MoUs, the institute maintains a strong industry interface through live consulting projects, regular corporate talks, industry-focused summits, and expert guest lectures, all of which connect students directly with real-time business challenges. Furthermore, partnerships with government bodies like SIDBI and the Ministry of MSME support entrepreneurship training and venture incubation, helping students gain hands-on experience in starting and scaling businesses. It has partnered with HPCL to launch an Executive MBA in Energy Management and collaborates with the Digital Health Academy to offer a range of online and hybrid courses, such as the Certified Digital Health Professional programme and postgraduate certificates in digital health. Additionally, students benefit from live industry projects, corporate talks, industry summits, and entrepreneurship training programmes conducted in association with SIDBI and the Ministry of MSME, creating a strong industry-academia interface. Q5. What was the core vision behind launching the fully-funded MBA in Public Policy and Governance under the Chief Minister's Good Governance Fellowship? The core vision behind the Public Policy MBA was to build executive leadership capacity within government systems, support governance reforms, and align with national development goals such as Viksit Bharat and Viksit Chhattisgarh. Following the successful launch of the fully-funded MBA in Public Policy and Governance under the Chief Minister's Good Governance Fellowship, IIM Raipur is planning to expand into other emerging domains. To equip students, the institute has been offering a dedicated course on AI for several years and is now expanding this with comprehensive workshops. Additionally, to prevent copying from AI tools, we have made it mandatory for all assignments to go through Turnitin (a similarity detection software) that can easily detect the use of AI-generated content. IIM Raipur is also developing an AI policy to guide responsible use, fostering independent thinking and ethical application of generative AI tools in education. Admission to NEP-based courses
Pondicherry University has commenced the admission process for various NEP-based undergraduate courses for 2025-26 offered by its Community College. A press note said the online admission portal would be open till June 19 for undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Vocational Degree, Advanced Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma and Diploma programmes, Bachelor of Computer Applications (Honors) and Bachelor of Business Administration (Honors) - General courses. The applicants can visit the college web portal for admission prospectus and for applying online.
