BP begins gas production from second development phase of Egypt's Raven field

BP has commenced production from the second development phase of the Raven field, a key component of the West Nile Delta (WND) project. This phase involves the subsea tieback of additional Raven infill wells to BP's existing onshore infrastructure.
As the project operator, BP holds an 82.75% stake, with Harbour Energy owning the remaining 17.25%. The newly developed wells are expected to yield approximately 220 billion cubic feet of gas and 7 million barrels of condensate. The project was executed safely and ahead of schedule, enabling an accelerated production start.
Nader Zaki, BP's Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, stated: 'Since January 2024, we have not stopped drilling for a single day. The focus of the Raven Infills project has been to counter natural decline, enhance production, and maximize our existing infrastructure to meet Egypt's domestic energy demand efficiently. This achievement underscores BP's commitment to investing in Egypt, made possible through our strong partnership with the Ministry of Petroleum, EGPC, and EGAS.'
Wail Shaheen, VP of BP Egypt, said: 'The safe start-up of this project follows our recent success with the El King exploration well. These milestones reflect our ongoing dedication to meeting rising local energy needs by optimizing production from existing resources while continuing to explore new ones.'
The WND Gas Development consists of multiple gas condensate fields offshore Egypt, within the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions. The Raven field, the final phase of the WND project, has been in production since early 2021. Its initial phase involved the development of eight subsea wells, situated up to 65 km offshore, at depths ranging from 550 to 700 meters.

Egypt's Ministers Coordinate on Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production

CAIRO – 17 April 2025: Egypt's ministers of petroleum, environment, and civil aviation held a joint meeting at the Ministry of Petroleum's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to coordinate efforts on the ongoing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production project. The project, currently being implemented by the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), forms a core part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' strategy to support sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad underscored the importance of aligning efforts across sectors to support Egypt's transition to clean and sustainable energy sources—particularly within the aviation sector, which plays a critical and environmentally sensitive role. Fouad highlighted that SAF production marks a pivotal step toward reducing the aviation sector's carbon footprint. She emphasized that carbon certificates can only be sold or traded in accordance with specific standards and regulations. The Ministry of Petroleum, she noted, has outlined emission reduction targets as part of Egypt's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and has developed mechanisms for the regulation of carbon certificate sales. She also referenced the national bioeconomy strategy, which aims to promote biofuel production as a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative. Used cooking oil, a key input for SAF production, has been the focus of a comprehensive study conducted by the Waste Management Regulatory Agency, which now classifies it as a valuable resource. Tamer Heikal, chairman of the Egyptian Sustainable Aviation Fuel Company (ESAF), presented the project's business plan, objectives, and implementation roadmap. Heikal stated that the $530 million project has completed its feasibility studies in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He emphasized the project's strong economic potential, noting that it will utilize advanced hydrotreating technology to convert used cooking oil into 120,000 tons of SAF annually. The fuel will be used to meet domestic demand and support exports. The facility is being constructed on a 100,000-square-meter site opposite Dekheila Port. Procedures are currently underway to select a technology licensor and an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor. The project is also progressing in partnership with four international financial institutions. Heikal added that efforts are in motion to market the SAF to global aviation companies and to secure consistent supplies of used cooking oil. He stressed the importance of cross-sector collaboration—particularly with the ministries of environment and civil aviation—to accelerate the project's completion and maximize its returns.

Egypt Makes Three Crude Oil, Gas Discoveries in Western Desert

Taarek Refaat The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced three crude oil and gas discoveries in the Western Desert on Saturday, noting that these discoveries are part of its efforts to enhance the country's utilization of its mineral resources and intensify exploration efforts. The ministry said in a statement, "As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' commitment to maximizing production rates and encouraging operating companies to increase exploratory drilling activities, reflecting the promising potential of the Egyptian energy sector, Khalda Petroleum Company has succeeded in achieving three new crude oil and gas discoveries in its concession areas in the Western Desert." The ministry's statement added that the new discoveries "will add an estimated reserve volume of 12 million barrels of oil equivalent and a recoverable reserve of 4 million barrels of oil equivalent." The ministry explained that "the discoveries were tested and evaluated, and the daily production rate reached approximately 2,750 barrels of oil and condensates and 20 million cubic feet of gas. The associated gas reserve volume is currently being calculated by Khalda Company." The ministry stated, "These discoveries represent a significant return to the work of partner Apache Corporation in developing gas in these areas in parallel with crude oil, following the implementation of the new price adjustment incentives. This will raise Khalda's gas production above 480 million cubic feet of gas and will soon reach 500 million cubic feet. Without this initiative, gas production would have decreased to 380 million cubic feet of gas within six months." In March 2025, Egypt received a gas production boost from the West Delta concession, which added 320 million cubic feet to the country's production, a move that will reduce its import bill and meet growing domestic demand. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 ..
