NDA celebrates first anniversary of people's massive mandate in Vijayawada
At the State Secretariat, Minister for HRD and IT Nara Lokesh presented copies of the coffee table book on his Yuvagalam Padayatra to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and other Cabinet members. The book, visually chronicling the padayatra that played a pivotal role in shaping the State's political narrative, was lauded by Pawan Kalyan.
Reflecting on the day, Lokesh said, 'Exactly a year ago, the people's aspirations triumphed over a regime of destruction. It was a historic victory of five crore people against anarchic and divisive rule.'
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi's blessings, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's experience, and Pawan Kalyan's ambition, the reconstruction of the State has begun. The people's government is committed to development and welfare, he said, adding, 'I thank the people for their trust in the NDA, and urge continued support to keep Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of progress. Greetings on People's Verdict Day!'

1 2 Guwahati: Ahead of the assembly election early next year, Union home minister Amit Shah will join the state in its drive to protect its lands from encroachers here on Aug 29. Shah, who is also the cooperation minister, will address the panchayat members from NDA on the state govt's plan to form cooperatives in every panchayat. These cooperatives will use the vacant govt land on lease for cultivation and farming so that no encroachment on any vacant govt land can take place. Large swathes of forest lands in the state, illegally occupied by Bangladesh-origin Muslim people, are being cleared by the state govt. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing a press conference here on Friday, said, "The Union home minister will first inaugurate the newly constructed Raj Bhavan on Aug 29, which I think will be the best Raj Bhavan in the country. Thereafter, he will address a convention of the newly elected panchayat members of BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad." He further said the state govt is planning to form cooperative societies in every panchayat. "The responsibility of the cooperative societies will be to use the vacant govt land for agriculture, farming, or dairy. "Since Shah is also the cooperation minister, he will also address the panchayat members on this," he added. In the evening, Shah will attend the birth centenary of Assam's first non-Congress CM Golap Borbora. He will then return to Delhi. Borbora was arrested in 1975 during the Emergency for opposing the then Indira Gandhi govt and he spent 18 months in Tihar jail. He became the state unit president of the Janata Party in 1977 after his release from Tihar jail and led the party to victory with 53 seats. He was unanimously elected the first non-Congress chief minister of Assam in 1978, but his govt lasted for only 18 months. He was also a Rajya Sabha member from 1968 to 1974.

Bihar Assembly Elections: Seemanchal, close to Bangladesh, sees significant voter deletion
Synopsis Bihar's Seemanchal region, comprising Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar, has experienced significant voter deletions in the draft electoral roll, totaling several lakhs. These districts, bordering Bangladesh and Nepal with a high Muslim population, are known for infiltration. The region's 24 assembly seats are crucial for the NDA and INDIA bloc, marked by communal polarization and close contests. Agencies Bihar's Seemanchal region which accommodates four districts - Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar - has witnessed a significant voter deletion in the draft electoral roll. Since the region is close to Bangladesh and shares boundaries with Nepal, these four districts, which have a high Muslim population, are known for infiltration. Araria saw a deletion of 1,58,072 voters, Kishanganj 1,45,668, Purnia 2,73,920 and Katihar 1,84,254 in the draft list. Now after the deletion, the number of voters in Araria stands at 19,24,414; Kishanganj 10,86,242; Purnia 19,94,511 and Katihar 20,44,809. The Seemanchal region, which has 24 assembly seats, is considered a tough battlefield for both main political players - ruling NDA and main Opposition INDIA bloc (previously known as Mahagathbandhan) because of polarisation of voters on communal lines during the elections. In most of the 24 constituencies, the candidates faced close contests in the previous elections. In 2020 assembly polls, AIMIM had made its presence felt in this region by bagging five seats. The presence of AIMIM candidates in different seats of this region was a major source of trouble for the Mahagtahbandhan then. Although a clear political picture of the Seemanchal region will emerge after the final publication of electors' list, both the NDA and INDIA bloc are set to swing into action to ensure proper verification of the draft list of electors in this region.

Bihar elections: Migration a major factor behind change in voter demography
Bihar's draft electoral roll reveals demographic shifts due to migration. Patna saw the highest voter deletion, followed by Madhubani. BJP-JDU strongholds like East Champaran also experienced significant deletions. Gopalganj's voter list shrank due to migration and floods. Samastipur witnessed a close NDA-RJD contest. Remove Ads The draft electoral roll for Bihar published after the SIR by the Election Commission indicated a change of voter demography due to internal as well as external migration of the people. A primary look at the data suggests a uniform deletion of voters across the the 38 districts, Patna recorded the highest voter deletion with 3,95,500 voters removed out of the voter list. Patna is the largest district of the state with 14 assembly constituencies. Out of 14, seven districts have recorded more than average deletion of 27,012 votes per assembly of the 14 assembly constituencies, RJD had won six seats, followed by BJP with five in the 2020 elections. RJD ally CPI (ML) won two and Congress won one district, which stood second in deletion list with 3,53,545 voters, has been a stronghold of the BJP-JDU combine. In the 2020 assembly elections, BJP won five out of 10 assembly seats here while JDU won three seats and RJD could win only two. The district is known for large-scale migration outside the state and could be one of the reasons the district has recorded the second highest Champaran district has been another stronghold of the BJP-JDU combine with the two parties winning eight out of 11 seats in 2020. BJP won seven seats while JDU won one while three seats were won by Gopalganj district, there are six assembly seats and a total of 3,10,363 electors have been deleted in the draft voter list. In the 2020 assembly elections, BJP, JDU and RJD won two seats each in the district. The district is largely affected by migration and floods. Being a district bordering UP, several families have moved to nearby Gorakhpur for better health and education facilities. The district also witnesses a high migration to gulf countries for work district, one of the top five in terms of voter deletion, has always witnessed a close contest between NDA and RJD. In 2020, out of 10 assembly seats, RJD won four, JDU won three, BJP won two and CPI (ML) won one seat. The district recorded a deletion of 2,83,955 pattern is similar in other districts. In four districts of Seemanchal, only Purnia has figured in top 10 districts in terms of voter deletion with 2,73, 920 electors deleted from the roll over seven assembly constituencies.
