Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk charged by FA over anti-doping rule violation
An FA statement said: 'We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of regulations three and four of the FA's anti-doping regulations.
'As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.'
Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years under the FA's anti-doping regulations.
Under Regulation 77, a four-year ban would result if the violation related to a non-specified substance, unless the player or his camp could establish that the violation was not intentional.
Where the violation relates to a specified substance and the FA can establish the violation was intentional, a four-year ban would also apply.
Specified substances are those considered more likely to have been consumed by an athlete for a purpose other than the enhancement of sports performance.
A shorter ban could apply depending on other circumstances, such as whether it could be proved there was no intention to violate the regulations and whether the violation occurred in or out of competition.
Chelsea have been approached for comment.
Earlier this month Mudryk's number 10 shirt was given to Cole Palmer for next season, leaving the Ukraine international without a squad number at Stamford Bridge.
In a statement issued at the time of his suspension, Mudryk said the positive sample had come as 'a complete shock' and he had 'not done anything wrong,' with Chelsea adding the player had 'never knowingly used any banned substances'.
The result was returned shortly after he had been away on international duty with Ukraine in November, during which time the banned substance is reported to have been administered.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca initially said the winger was unavailable through illness to explain a four-game period that he was absent from the team prior to the suspension being made public.
Mudryk last played for the club in a 2-0 win away to Heidenheim in the Conference League on November 28. He was then an unused substitute for the 3-0 Premier League win against Aston Villa three days later.
His last appearance in the league came on November 10 as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal.
Mudryk's time at Stamford Bridge has been dogged by inconsistency on the pitch.
Brief flourishes of talent have been interrupted by periods of limited impact while his finishing and delivery from wide have frustrated supporters since his £88million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023.
He has scored just 10 goals in 73 appearances in all competitions and has rarely held down a regular place in the team.
Under Maresca his chances have been even more limited with most of his games coming in the cup competitions and in Europe, with just a single Premier League start in August's 6-2 win over Wolves.

It's a massive night for Jimmy Thelin's men as they look to secure a Europa League prize pot It's now time for the Scottish Cup winners to collect their reward as Aberdeen face FCSB. Jimmy Thelin 's men host the Liga I champions in the first leg of the final Europa League qualification hurdle this week, with the return led in the Romanian capital of Bucharest coming seven days later. The loser of the tie will drop into the revamped group stage of the Conference League, with the victors set to claim the multi-million pound jackpot for reaching Europe's second-tier competition. The Dons go into the game off the back of a 3-0 victory against Morton in the Premier Sports Cup and are brimming with confidence. But will Aberdeen take an advantage to Romania? The Record Sport team has their say. Scott Burns This is a great opportunity for Aberdeen to make the group stages of the Europa League. FCSB haven't made a great start to the season and Rangers have shown how fragile they can be last season. Aberdeen 3 FCSB 1 Michael Gannon Aberdeen have not been great in the Premiership but they have nothing to fear with FCSB. The artists formerly known as Steaua Bucharest got papped out the Champions League by a team from Macedonia. The Dons should be taking a lead out there next week. Aberdeen 2 FCSB 1 Graeme Young Aberdeen are itching for a signature result to back up the brilliance of their Scottish Cup triumph. Jimmy Thelin's side are at their best when they stick to plan and playing counter puncher could tee up a signature blow on the Romanians. Aberdeen 1 FCSB 0 Ross Pilcher It's been a tough start to the season for Aberdeen, but all we've heard this week is how FCSB are already through and that Jimmy Thelin's side won't cause them any problems. It will no doubt be on the dressing room wall/in the What'sApp group chat and purely on that, I'm backing the Reds to make them eat their words. Aberdeen 3 FCSB 0 Scott McDermott If the Dons are patient and keep it tight at the back, they'll get chances against a Steaua team who aren't in great form going into this. With the Pittodrie crowd behind them they can nick a vital goal and give themselves a fighting chance of finishing the job in Romania. Aberdeen 1 FCSB 0

Arsenal move to hijack £60m Eberechi Eze transfer as player makes preference clear
Tottenham had appeared to be in pole position to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, but Arsenal have returned to the fray after Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury Arsenal are confident they can hijack Tottenham's move for Eberechi Eze after making it clear they will pay Crystal Palace's asking price. The Gunners have not hidden their admiration for Eze, but had backed away from the Palace attacking midfielder in recent weeks, apparently leaving Spurs in pole position to sign him. But an injury to Kai Havertz has prompted an abrupt return to the race for the England international. Havertz missed training on Wednesday with a knee injury, and while Arsenal are yet to get a full picture of the issue, they have moved quickly in the transfer market. Having reportedly considered a move for Aston Villa 's Morgan Rogers, they have now returned to Eze as a possible solution. Palace chairman Steve Parish and his Tottenham counterpart Daniel Levy have been locked in talks over a deal for Eze, but it now seems they have been gazumped. Eze has always preferred to join Arsenal – the club where he spent time in the academy – and that could be crucial. The Athletic reports that, having previously baulked at the £60million asking price, Arsenal have now indicated they will pay up. That could be telling because the Gunners should now meet both the player and the selling club's demands for a move. Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is keen to add creativity to his squad after losing James Maddison to a serious knee injury. But Palace's insistence that nothing be sorted before their Conference League play-off match against Fredrikstad on Thursday appears to have scuppered their chances. Spurs appeared increasingly desperate on Wednesday evening as reports emerged that they were willing to include Richarlison as part of a swap deal for Eze. The Daily Mail reported that Frank would wave goodbye to the striker who scored twice in their 3-0 win over Burnley on the weekend before trying to replace him with Brentford's Yoane Wissa, who has been the subject of rejected bids from Newcastle. That speculative eventuality now seems even more unlikely with Arsenal ready to beat their rivals to the signature of one of the Premier League 's most exciting players. The Gunners have already spent over £200m to sign Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga. They have struggled to offload unwanted players, but have seen their hand forced by Havertz's injury, which leaves them short up front. Eze has made 167 appearances for Palace since joining the club from Queens Park Rangers in 2020 in a deal worth £17m. The 27-year-old is keen to move back to Arsenal, the club he supported as a boy, where he will play in the Champions League and potentially challenge for the Premier League title.
