Rosemary Shrager bitten by an adder after falling into a bush during 'foolhardy' 450-mile bike ride - leaving leg ‘black and yellow' with its venom

Daily Mail30-06-2025
Rosemary Shrager recalled the moment she was bitten by an adder after she fell into a bush during a 450-mile bike ride.
The TV chef featured on Monday's instalment of Loose Women and joined panellists Ruth Langsford, Linda Robson, Oti Mabuse and Katie Piper.
She recently completed a whopping bike ride called Two Wheels For Meals and rode for 18 days all the way from Land's End to Dover to raise funds to donate to food poverty charities.
To prepare for the big ride, Rosemary trained and worked on her fitness, but she 'kept falling off her bike'.
Things took a turn when she fell onto an unsuspecting snake while cycling in Cornwall.
'I fell onto an adder and it did bite me... on my leg,' Rosemary recalled.
'The problem was I didn't dare tell anyone, this was in Cornwall I fell into a hedge and my leg went into the grass and I literally fell on the adder.'
She added: 'It just obviously didn't like me, it bit me.'
However, the TV chef revealed she didn't tell anyone as she wanted to continue the journey.
'But I didn't want to tell anyone because I had to get from that destination to that destination everyday it was sometimes 55 miles, sometimes 48, it was a lot,' Rosemary said.
The bite mark on her leg turned yellow and she even developed a 'black line'.
She described: 'Basically I had to make it. I thought if I told them, then in the evening I saw it and it was that big, it was yellow, two prongs in my leg with a black line about that thick all the way around it and I couldn't believe it and I thought no, I'm not going to say anything I'm just going to carry on.'
Ruth asked: 'Weren't you worried it had poisoned you or something?'
To prepare for the big ride, Rosemary trained and worked on her fitness, but she 'kept falling off her bike'
But Rosemary revealed she wasn't too concerned as she was aware adder bites usually aren't dangerous to most people.
'I wasn't because I do know the adders in this country, you can't really die from the bite but you can become quite ill,' She explained.
'If you do have an adder bite, go to hospital straight away. I was foolhardy because I was on this mission and I knew they'd take me off the challenge and if they had taken me off the challenge I would have never had made it.'
According to The Wildlife Trusts, the adder is the UK's only venomous snake and is typically only dangerous to ill, very young or old people.
They urge anyone bitten to seek medical attention immediately.
Rosemary wrote in The Daily Mail earlier this month how she lost three stone from changing her lifestyle for the bike ride.
'Nine months after I started training, I'm more than three stone lighter and four dress sizes smaller,' she said.
However, she revealed it wasn't just exercise that helped her to shed the pounds, a weight loss jab.
Rosemary penned: 'And while I can credit perseverance plus the support of a personal trainer and cycling partner, I have something else to thank for my achievements – Ozempic.'
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV1 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm and is available to stream on ITVX.

Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb breaks silence on Mack death scenes

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb has spoken out about his upcoming on-screen death. Metro revealed last week that killer John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) will claim his next victim – Mackenzie Boyd – in upcoming scenes. John, as viewers know, has somewhat of a hero complex, swooping in last minute to play the saviour after endangering the lives of several villagers. From spiking Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) to setting Ella Forster (Paula Lane) up, it doesn't seem like he's about to stop anytime soon. That's without mentioning the murder of Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), who died before John could play the hero. A source told us: 'The John story has so many twists and turns to come and this will come as a genuine surprise to fans. 'Mack has survived quite a lot over the years but his time is well and truly up this time. 'What his exit does is set the stage for an exciting next stage to John's saga later in the autumn that will leave fans quite literally on edge.' Now actor Lawrence has been put in a difficult position about the upcoming story when questioned by the Loose Women panellists. When appearing on the ITV daytime show today to talk about the ongoing surrogacy storyline – that has seen Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) decide to be a surrogate for granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) – the awkward matter of his upcoming exit was addressed. 'I don't want to put you on the spot, but I'm going to,' asked Jane Moore. 'There's lots of rumours that Mack might be getting killed off.' Lawrence, visibly squirming, replied: 'Yeah, there are lots of rumours. And rumours they shall remain.' Quick thinking – though Denise Welch didn't look too convinced. Co-host Coleen Nolan then chimed in, asking: 'If that was the case, I'm not saying it is or it isn't, [but] do they discuss that with you straight away or about a month before it's happening?' 'It's never brutal,' he replied, being extremely cautious about his wording. 'I've always said, being in the show, I never want to be too prescriptive with it. 'I've always enjoyed doing what I'm doing. Ultimately if and when, – if, when – the time for Mack to leave comes, whether that be my choice or the writer-producers, I'll be thankful for the time that I've had.' He concluded: 'Ultimately, nobody is safe in the show. It's most dangerous village in the country.' Anchor Christine Lampard then stepped up to offer a much needed reprieve from the interrogation, introducing a clip from an upcoming episode. Mack made his debut five years ago when he turned up at Butlers Farm as the long-lost younger sibling of Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb). Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? He also swiftly embarked on a relationship with Charity, who was seeing Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) at the time of their one night stand. More Trending In the years since, Mack has been at the centre of numerous stories, including a one night stand with Chloe Harris, which led to the birth of his son Reuben. The storyline led to Charity and Mack splitting up but ultimately they found their way back to one another and have been happy in the years since, but it seems it could all be set to end in tragedy if John does in fact kill Mack. Emmerdale fans 'work out' who gets framed for Mack's 'death' in sick revenge

Emmerdale viewers fear a character is going to be set up for the reported murder of Mackenzie Boyd amid claims the character will bow out of the ITV soap at the hands of John Sugden With a murder said to be looming on Emmerdale, fans believe a character could be framed for the horrific crime in a sickening revenge twist. Reports have emerged that John Sugden is about to claim his next and possibly final victim, and now fans think someone else will be blamed. ‌ John has so far gotten away with murdering Nate Robinson, injuring Aidan Moore and orchestrating a string of other incidents to play the hero. Now it's claimed Mackenzie Boyd will be killed off in a brutal new twist. ‌ It comes as reports stated actor Lawrence Robb was bowing out of the ITV soap after five years, as part of a twist involving killer John. According to the rumours, Mack will rumble John's crimes and it will lead to Mack's gruesome death. ‌ But will it be poor Robert Sugden left to face punishment for the crime amid his feud with his villainous brother John? John has made it abundantly clear he wants Robert out of the way, deliberately targeting him and this is only set to continue. Amid spoilers revealing Robert and ex Aaron Dingle grow closer, sparking affair predictions, we will see Aaron's husband John desperate to keep the pair apart. So how far will he go to get rid of his brother, and could it see Robert sent back to prison? Robert was released earlier this year after six years inside over the death of Lee Posner. Fans are now concerned that if Mack is killed off, John will cover his tracks and pin it all on Robert to get him locked up yet again. One fan posted on social media: "John better not frame Robert for Mack's murder." Another viewer said: "He'll probably frame Robert and Aaron carries on being blind until next spring." It comes as actor Lawrence addressed the rumoured exit for the first time on Loose Women on Wednesday. He said: "There are lots of rumours, and rumours they shall remain", before adding: "I've always said that being in the show that I never want to be too prescriptive with it. " ‌ But when asked how he would feel about being killed off, he admitted that he would always feel grateful for the time he's had on the show, as he issued a warning to fans. He said: "I've always enjoyed doing what I'm doing. If, and when, the time to leave comes, whether that would be my choice or the choice of the producers, then I will be thankful for the time that I've had. Ultimately, no one is safe in the show", before quipping: "Especially not in that village!" On the future for Mack amid a row with his wife Charity Dingle and the stuff with John, Lawrence recently remained coy but did hint at bad things ahead. He simply said: "It's not looking good." Lawrence went on: "Whilst Mackenzie has got the argument with Charity on his plate, he's also got a pretty critical moment with John on his plate as well. And, combine these two things and it does not spell good things." Emmerdale's Mack actor breaks silence on 'exit' as he warns 'no one is safe'

Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb has addressed his rumoured 'exit' from the soap for the first time amid the John Sugden serial killer plot and warned that 'no one is safe' Lawrence Robb has addressed his supposed 'exit' from Emmerdale for the first time. The actor, 34, stars as Mackenzie Boyd on the ITV soap and fans recently discovered that he is set to find a 'clue' in the long-running storyline that has seen John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) go on a crime spree across the Yorkshire village. ‌ The soap star appeared on Wednesday's edition of Loose Women alongside Christine Lampard, Denise Welch, Coleen Nolan and Jane Moore, and while he did not comment on whether Mack would be killed or not, he did address the 'rumours' that he is set to leave the village. That said, Lawrence refused to confirm or deny anything. ‌ He said: "There are lots of rumours, and rumours they shall remain", before adding: "I've always said that being in the show that I never want to be too prescriptive with it. " It comes after it was claimed that Mack will die at the hands of killer John Sugden after he unearths his dark secret. ‌ But when Nolans singer Coleen asked the actor how he would feel about being killed off, he admitted that he would always feel grateful for the time he's had on the show, as he issued a warning to fans. He said "I've always enjoyed doing what I'm doing. If, and when, the time to leave comes, whether that would be my choice or the choice of the producers, then I will be thankful for the time that I've had. Ultimately, no one is safe in the show", before quipping: "Especially not in that village!" Spoilers recently hinted that it could be the end for Mack, who was introduced as the long-lost brother of Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) in 2020. The clue simply reads: "Mack discovers a clue, what has Mack found?" It's very vague but the spoilers in full appear to allude that it's linked to John, and, just days ago Lawrence confirmed that it is. ‌ Asked about what he discovers and what it means, the star confessed it would lead to the moment Mack finally realises he's been right about John all along. He then teased it will land him in serious danger, with "bleak" scenes ahead. But speaking out about working with co-star Oliver Farnworth, who plays killer John, Lawrence had nothing but good things to say. Addressing the "tense" and "not good" scenes they've had to film together, Lawrence said offscreen the pair get along very well, with him calling Oliver "the loveliest man". ‌ He shared: "Oh, he's great. What a lovely boy. I've said that several times. I phoned him a couple of weeks ago, just to say how I thought he was doing such a great job, because, you know, playing a psycho like that - it is not easy. "And I do think he's doing a great job. And he is just the most loveliest man. It is surreal working with someone in such a relative close proximity for a while, and to really get to know them better and to just have a laugh with them, but then then do some not very nice scenes." On the future for Mack amid a row with his wife Charity Dingle and the stuff with John, Lawrence remained coy but did hint at bad things ahead. He simply said: "It's not looking good." Lawrence went on: "Whilst Mackenzie has got the argument with Charity on his plate, he's also got a pretty critical moment with John on his plate as well. And, combine these two things and it does not spell good things."
