Centre launches portal on gender budgeting
Gender Budgeting has been a core element of India's development strategy since 2005–06. Initially introduced as a fiscal reporting mechanism, it has evolved into a key governance instrument for achieving gender equality and women empowerment, Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi said at a National Consultation on Gender Budgeting here.
Senior Officers from 40 Central ministries and departments and 19 States, Representatives of UN Women, Asian Development Bank and Experts from National level Institutes participated in the day-long event.
The consultation, the first of its kind, was organised with the key objectives of deliberating on measures to strengthen gender budgeting processes across all sectors and sharing initiatives and good practices on gender budgeting by Central Ministries/Departments and States under their specific schemes, a senior official of the ministry said.
The Union WCD Minister also launched a web portal named 'Gender Budgeting Knowledge Hub', developed by the Ministry. The Hub is a digital repository of all information related to gender budgeting processes, intended for use by Central and State government ministries and departments, as well as other stakeholders.
The portal's primary aim is to empower policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders with a centralised repository of tools — including policy briefs, best practices, and gender-disaggregated data — to support the integration of a gender lens into all stages of planning and budgeting, both at the Central and State levels.
Ms. Devi said gender budgeting has moved from being a fiscal exercise to becoming a strategic instrument for inclusive governance. 'Gender budgeting is not just a policy tool—it is our collective commitment to ensuring that every rupee spent carries the promise of equity, dignity, and opportunity for all.'
She said that for the financial year 2025–26, the Gender Budget allocation of ₹4.49 lakh crore — a 37% increase over the previous year allocation — underscores the government's strong commitment to advancing gender equality through both policy and public finance.
Deliberations were also held on a draft 'Training Manual' on Gender Budgeting, which has been developed by the Ministry as an important capacity-building tool and practical guide to understand various aspects of Gender Budgeting in India.

Opportune moment for Delhi's development as BJP ruling all states surrounding it: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that it was a golden and opportune moment for the national capital to ride the ladder of growth because the environment and ruling dispensation are rightly aligned and focused on one goal. PM Modi said that it may be a rare coincidence that all the states surrounding Delhi, including Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, currently have BJP governments, and this alignment throws an opportune moment to unlock the potential for the national capital's exponential and multi-faceted growth. He also mentioned an instance of "poisoning Delhi" controversy during the previous AAP dispensation, in the run-up to Assembly elections, and lamented that it tried to invoke differences between residents of two states rather than building congruity and harmony. Prime Minister Modi made the remarks while addressing a public gathering after inaugurating two major National Highway projects in the capital worth nearly Rs 11,000 crore, namely the Delhi sections of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and Dwarka Expressway. Outlining "good governance" as the hallmark of BJP governments across the country, he said that the new government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, will follow this principle and ensure that Delhi moves steadily and firmly on the growth path. Prime Minister Modi also lauded the Rekha Gupta administration for taking urgent steps towards the redressal of public issues and speeding up the Yamuna cleaning, a promise that helped the BJP ride to power in the capital. "I am told that 16 lakh metric tonne of silt has been removed, so far," PM Modi told the gathering. About the electric buses joining the public transport fleet in the capital, PM Modi said, "Till now, 650 Devi electric buses have been rolled out on Delhi roads and soon, it will cross the 2000 mark." "This is an endeavour towards clean and green Delhi. Earlier, the city suffered deeply because of inefficiency and incapability of the past governments, but our government is committed to its welfare," he added. Notably, the two highway projects unveiled by the Prime Minister will mark a big connectivity leap for the national capital and go a long way in decongesting the capital, reducing travel time and traffic snarls in the capital and surrounding areas.

Saudi Justice Ministry launches unified translation services on e-Litigation platform to speed up court cases
The Ministry of Justice now handles all judicial translation requests digitally through the e-Litigation platform, improving speed and accuracy/ Image: File The Ministry of Justice in Saudi Arabia has formally launched a centralized translation service through its e-Litigation platform, streamlining all judicial translation processes to support efficient legal communication and case handling. A system-wide overhaul of judicial translation services The Unified Translation Center is now operational on the e-Litigation platform, enabling centralized management of judicial translation requests. The service encompasses the entire translation process, from the initial request by a beneficiary to completion, within a single digital workflow. The platform automates the receipt of translation requests, which can originate from lawsuits or judicial departments, and coordinates their assignment to translators. It also provides tools for monitoring and supervision, ensuring the status of each request can be tracked throughout its lifecycle. The integration allows beneficiaries, such as litigants, legal representatives, and courts, to follow the progress of their translation requests step-by-step, aiming to improve the quality, speed, and efficiency of translation services within judicial procedures. Addressing language barriers in Saudi courts The Unified Translation Center, under the Ministry of Justice, offers remote interpretation services for non-Arabic speakers during court hearings. By utilizing videoconferencing and the e-Litigation system, interpreters, including those specializing in sign language, can assist in real time, ensuring accurate understanding between judicial panels and individuals involved in legal proceedings who do not speak Arabic. This initiative was launched with a clear goal: to eliminate communication barriers in courtrooms and legal environments, providing transparent interpretation to safeguard due process and individual rights. It emphasizes accuracy and ensures that non-Arabic speakers are given full clarity and participation during legal procedures. Platform access through Najiz The Najiz platform, which serves as the Ministry of Justice's unified digital services portal, hosts the translation functionality. In August 2023, the Ministry introduced a dedicated feature on Najiz titled 'Request for an Interpreter'. This allows non-Arabic speaking users to request translation services directly online. Najiz is part of a broader effort by the Ministry to provide comprehensive judicial services digitally, aimed at improving user experience and service accessibility. Institutional context and evolution The Ministry of Justice is one of the most longstanding government entities in Saudi Arabia. Established by Royal Order in 1962, the Ministry was tasked with overseeing all courts and fulfilling their administrative and financial needs. Although it was founded in 1962, the Ministry began executing its formal duties in 1970 under the leadership of the first appointed Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bin Ali al-Harkhan, who served until 1975. Among all ministries under the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Justice is one of only three that has never undergone a name change, merger, or dissolution, the others being the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health. The Ministry is headquartered in Riyadh and is managed by a Minister appointed via Royal Order, who also holds membership in the Council of Ministers. Vision 2030 and strategic justice reforms The broader modernization of judicial services, including digital translation and litigation processes, is aligned with the national transformation program Saudi Vision 2030. The Ministry's active reform phase began after the first meeting of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs in 2016, where His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, launched the Vision. As part of this alignment, the Ministry of Justice adopted thirteen strategic goals, all contributing to systemic improvements across its various sectors. These sectors include: Judiciary Enforcement Documentation Reconciliation Advocacy Judicial Training Center Each plays a role in transforming legal services to be more efficient, accessible, and aligned with global standards.
