Local fundraiser is helping to support cancer survivors in need

Yahoo27-04-2025
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – In the US, an estimated 40 and a half percent of people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. A fundraiser in Holyoke, organized by the local group, 'Each Moment We're Alive' aimed to support those facing this challenge.
The Derby Kickoff Party: 'Cocktails for a Cause' was held at Gary Rome Hyundai's showroom which was transformed into a vibrant derby-themed venue. The event featured a best derby hat competition, cocktails, live music, and raffles.
Organizers told 22News that the fundraiser provided hope and support to cancer survivors in need. 'We help those survivors, help with the mental stress, the mental strain of what do I do next?Where's my life going next? I don't I don't know what to do. That's where we really come in and work with the community and work with them,' said Executive Director and Founder of 'Each Moment We're Alive', Cindy Sheridan Murphy.
The organization hopes to have raised thousands of dollars to continue providing free services and resources to cancer survivors and their families. Murphy says these efforts have already helped change the lives of so many.
'I've seen so many in the last ten, 11 years of just going on and getting back into their lives and loving what they're doing and maybe something they missed. Now they're enjoying, or maybe they've found a new career path. So they find like there's just such a change in their life with the support,' said Murphy.

Vikings' Kevin O'Connell offers praise to former UDFA after strong performance

Outside of J.J. McCarthy, perhaps the biggest talking point throughout Minnesota Vikings training camp has been the strength of the defensive line. Andrew Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard both made the Pro Bowl last year, and the additions of Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrove on the interior line have generated rave reviews so far. However, the strength goes beyond just the starters. One of the more intriguing rotational players is Gabriel Murphy, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024. The Vikings thought so much of him out of the draft that they gave Murphy a $245,000 signing bonus. After spending most of his rookie season dealing with a knee injury that limited his availability, Murphy impressed in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Houston Texans. He received an 80.2 PFF grade (highest among Vikings defenders) after generating 1.5 sacks and five pressures. Kevin O'Connell was pleased with Murphy's performance, praising his mentality after the game. I think he had five (QB) hits or whatever it was, and Gabe's been a guy that has shown up daily at camp, highlighted in front of the team. It feels like [Gabe is] a man on a mission right now, in a lot of ways. And I'm just proud of him, proud of where he's at in camp right now, and now he's just got to set his sights on continuing to compete. I mentioned it to you guys how competitive that outside linebacker room is. And it's because we're so good at the top with really three starters and JG [Jonathan Greenard], Gink [Andrew Van Ginkel], and Dallas [Turner], and then we feel really, really good about Bo (Richter), Gabe and obviously the two young guys. Murphy has an opportunity to be the Vikings' fourth EDGE rusher, a role that could see quite a few snaps in 2025. Dallas Turner, for example, played 302 snaps in 2024, the fourth-most among all EDGE rushers in Minnesota. If Murphy can be as disruptive as he was on Saturday, he can push for not only a roster spot but plenty of playing time in 2025.

6 players who impressed Jim Harbaugh in the Chargers' preseason win over the Saints

The Chargers defeated the Saints, 27-13, in a preseason game that featured a handful of standout players. At his media availability, head coach Jim Harbaugh highlighted six of them that impressed him: Rogers, the undrafted rookie out of Rutgers, took advantage of his extensive playing time. Rogers recorded two interceptions in the game, including a 43-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the third quarter. Harbaugh called it "as good a play as I've ever seen." Rogers left the game in the fourth quarter with an injury and was seen with crutches after the game. The third-year player Murphy continued his stellar summer with two sacks, including a strip-sack in the second quarter. Harbaugh believed Murphy deserved credit for three sacks in the game. He also noted that Murphy is making a "very good case" for a spot on the 53-man roster. The undrafted rookie out of Syracuse, Wax, led the team with nine tackles. He also notched a sack. While Taylor Heinicke struggled in his first preseason outing of the year, Lance continued to make a strong case to be the primary backup to Justin Herbert. Lance showcased his rushing ability, leading the team in that department with 48 yards on seven carries, including a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Despite the passing game taking a backseat in this game, Campbell still made the most of his opportunities. The former Gamecock finished with three catches for 62 yards, including a 49-yard haul late in the game from DJ Uiagalelei. Campbell also converted a two-point attempt from Lance. Williamson stood out in the tackling department, both on defense and special teams.

2025 Oregon State Football Predictions: Beavers Ranked 65th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

College Football 2025 Oregon State Football Predictions: Beavers Ranked 65th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 8:47 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Oregon State lands in my Ultimate 136. Oregon State ranking: 65 Last year's ranking: 79 Top player: QB Maalik Murphy: Went 9-3 as a starter at Duke last season, setting a single-season school record for TD passes with 26; led Duke to four wins when trailing in the fourth quarter. [Oregon State's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: Last year, the Beavers needed to run the ball really well to win ball games. They were 1-7 when they didn't rush for at least 230 yards. That's a tough trick to turn every week unless your last name is "Academy." ADVERTISEMENT Enter Duke transfer Murphy, who threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 26 touchdowns last year. Now, Inglewood's finest, at 6-foot-5, a grease bucket of chicken short of 250 pounds, is going to try to help Oregon State air it out without throwing it to folks who aren't wearing the house colors; Murphy threw 12 picks last year. The Beavers better be eager. They have to start fast and keep the pedal on the floor with a schedule that looks a lot like Stormbreaker bombing at Thanos' neck: Cal, Fresno State, Oregon, and Houston. And that's just the first five weeks. There's just one FCS opponent on Oregon State's schedule (Lafayette). Well, two if you count Tulsa — and I do.
