Jimmy Kimmel Just Revealed That Matt Damon Genuinely Almost Died In His House Amid Their 22-Year Faux Feud — And He's Well Aware Of How Suspicious That Would Have Looked

Yahooa day ago
Any pop culture lover is probably aware of the faux feud between Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel, which all started way back in 2003 when Jimmy ended an episode of his late-night talk show by jokingly saying: 'Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time.'
As it happens, Matt was never billed to appear on the show, with Jimmy later explaining on NPR: 'We had a bad show…. The guests were bad, and I was feeling pretty bad about myself at the end of the program.'
He added that he only made the joke for the amusement of one of his producers, sharing: 'Matt Damon was just the first name that popped into my head. I was trying to think of an A-list star and somebody we absolutely would not bump if he was on the show.'
This joke immediately became a running gag on Jimmy Kimmel Live, with the host ending his show with the same quip night after night. During an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, Matt admitted that this off-the-cuff moment from Jimmy 'changed the rest of [their] lives' as he confirmed that he'd never even met the host prior to that moment.
Related:
Matt finally did appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live three years later, in 2006, and the two fully leaned into the bit by having Jimmy end the show right after introducing Matt as his guest. At the time, Matt jokingly started cussing out the host and stormed off stage.
Matt returned the following year, and enlisted Jimmy's then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman to prank Jimmy, with Sarah recording a song called: 'I'm Fucking Matt Damon,' and the two shooting a music video together that joked about them having a secret sexual relationship behind Jimmy's back.
For what it's worth, 'I'm Fucking Matt Damon' ended up winning a Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
Jimmy got his own back in 2009, when he called in Matt's longtime best friend for the song: 'I'm Fucking Ben Affleck,' and an accompanying music video.

The gags have continued in a similar vein throughout the years, with the two men regularly pranking one another and poking fun at their 'rivalry.'
So, with all of this in mind, it's pretty on brand that Matt genuinely almost died when he had dinner at Jimmy's house, with Jimmy only just sharing the previously untold story about how he almost actually killed Matt Damon.
Related:
The anecdote came to light during Jimmy's recent interview with Variety, and how suspicious it would have looked if the Hollywood actor had died at his hands after decades of public play-fighting was not lost on Jimmy.
'Matt Damon was over at my house one night for dinner. I made pork ribs. He came late, was very hungry, and started eating fast,' Jimmy told the publication. 'He started choking on a pork rib. It was stuck in his throat for about an hour and a half.'
'His brother was there. I said: 'We have got to get him to the hospital,' because if he dies in my house, I'm going to prison for the rest of my life. I will never be able to explain this as anything other than a murder,' the star went on to quip, but thankfully, the trio were able to find a solution with the help of the trusty internet.
Related:
'We did a lot of YouTube-ing and finally concluded that eating little bits of bread was the way to get that rib to work its way down into his stomach — and bread saved him,' Jimmy concluded. 'We tried the Heimlich many times. It was too far down.'
Whew, thank goodness for YouTube! Needless to say, I'm personally very glad that Matt Damon didn't choke to death on a pork rib in Jimmy Kimmel's house. Let me know your thoughts on Jimmy's anecdote in the comments below!

Kevin Costner Fires Back at ‘Patently False' Allegation Over ‘Horizon 2' Rape Scene: ‘An Absolute Nightmare'

Kevin Costner has fired back at a lawsuit from a 'Horizon 2' stunt performer who claims that she was forced to perform an unscripted rape scene in violation of union protocols. In a motion to throw out the lawsuit filed Tuesday, Costner said the allegations are 'patently false' and 'deeply disappointing' and were designed to damage his reputation. More from Variety 'Horizon 2' Intimacy Coordinator Documented Rape Scene Complaint: 'Protocols Were Abandoned' Kevin Costner Sued by Stunt Performer Over Unscripted 'Horizon 2' Rape Scene Kevin Costner Premieres 'Horizon: Chapter 2' in Santa Barbara, But There's No News on Next Two Installments 'I can only assume that purpose was to use this sensationalistic language to embarrass and damage me and the 'Horizon' movies on an ongoing basis in order to gain a massive and unjustified payday,' Costner said in a court declaration. 'Equally as bad, having to read about and address allegations I know to be false involving the words 'rape' and 'assault' has been an absolute nightmare.' Devyn LaBella sued Costner in May for sexual harassment and for creating a hostile work environment. She alleged that Costner improvised a scene in which an actor straddled her and raked up her skirt in an aggressive manner. The intimacy coordinator on the film later documented lapses in protocols during the scene, including a lack of planning, communication and the lack of a closed set. In response, Costner stated that it was not a 'rape scene,' and that while rape was implied, there was no nudity or simulated sex. 'This was one artistic shot designed to imply what was going to happen off-screen, and purposely was not a 'simulated rape' as Devyn now falsely describes it,' he stated. Costner and his company are seeking to throw out the suit under California's anti-SLAPP law, which is designed to protect free speech on matters of public concern. Marty Singer, Costner's attorney, wrote in the motion that 'Horizon 2' — which has yet to be released — addresses 'the horrific struggles endured by women' in the American West in the post-Civil War era, 'including their extreme vulnerability to rape and other forms of violence,' and that therefore it qualifies for protection under the anti-SLAPP law. In an anti-SLAPP motion, the losing side has the right to appeal immediately, which will likely delay the case for a year or more regardless of the outcome at the trial court. The motion includes declaration from many crew members who maintain that the shot was not out of the ordinary. Roger Ivens, the other performer in the scene, stated that LaBella offered a 'false and sensationalist' description of the scene in her lawsuit, in which she characterized it as depicting a violent rape. 'It is not what happened,' Ivens stated. 'This was not in any way, shape, or form a simulated sex scene.' Wade Allen, the stunt coordinator who hired and supervised LaBella, also stated that the scene involved 'no intimacy, no nudity, no sexual conduct or sexual movement of any kind.' He also stated that LaBella gave him a thumbs up before and after the run-through, and seemed upbeat and enthusiastic about the experience. 'At no point that day did she evidence any distress or discomfort, or any concern about what she had been asked to do,' Allen stated. In response to the filing, LaBella's lawyer, James Vagnini, said that LaBella's professional demeanor does not undermine her allegations, and noted that her claims have been corroborated by the intimacy coordinator and other witnesses and text messages. 'This filing is continued evidence that one of Hollywood's most powerful men is trying to skirt accountability for reckless and harmful behavior,' Vagnini said. 'This baseless motion is nothing but a desperate delay tactic from a panicked legal team with no real defense. The only things damaging Kevin Costner's reputation are his own reckless, harmful behavior and the offensive narrative he's spreading to cover it up.' WWE star Naomi announces pregnancy, relinquishes women's championship

WWE star Naomi relinquished the Women's World Championship on Monday as she announced she's pregnant with her first child. Naomi won the title when she cashed in her Money in the Bank contract during a match between Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley at Evolution. She then retained the title at SummerSlam, winning a triple-threat match that included Sky and Ripley. Last week, WWE said she wasn't cleared to compete in a title defense against Sky. It sparked speculation that Naomi could have been injured and may have to be out for a while. However, she appeared on the latest episode of "Monday Night Raw" and announced her personal news. She asked fans to view the videoboard. She and her real-life husband Jimmy Uso appeared on "What's Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon" and he announced they were expecting a child. "I'm pregnant and I'm having a baby," Naomi added. Back in the ring, Naomi was a bit emotional as the WWE fans cheered her on. She was a bit reluctant to relinquish the championship she fought so hard to win back. "I ain't handing you s---," she told RAW general manager Adam Pearce. "My hormones are jumping like a disco. This ain't the time nor place so I advise you to get the hell out of my face." Naomi said the women in the WWE locker room should be thanking Uso because without him they wouldn't have stood a chance of taking the title off of her. However, Naomi laid the championship in the middle of the ring and vacated the belt. "On the bright side, I guess the bloodline continues baby!" she added with her patented maniacal laugh. She vowed that she would come back for the title in "nine months and some change." "Even if I gotta come back breastfeeding with my baby in my arms, I'm coming back to pick up where I left off," she said.

In the documents obtained by The Post, LaBella claimed she was 'the victim of a violent unscripted, unscheduled rape scene,' which she noted was directed by Costner on May 2, 2023.
