Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has launched the 2025 CB650R and CBR650R middleweight performance motorcycles in the country. The 2025 Honda CB650R and CBR650R come with the brand's E-Clutch technology, which lets riders shift gears without having to use the clutch lever. The 2025 Honda CB650R is priced at ₹ 9.60 lakh, while the 2025 Honda CBR650R is priced at ₹ 10.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings are now open at Honda Big Wing dealerships for both motorcycles.
What is an E-Clutch
Honda's new E-Clutch system is a world-first and was first unveiled in November 2023. The system allows smooth shifting without the need for the rider to operate the clutch lever. The new E-Clutch is already available on the global versions and is finally making its way to the Indian market. The technology essentially allows riders to shift gears as well as start or stop the motorcycle without using the clutch lever by automatically controlling the clutch of the multi-gear manual transmission. Both bikes are also available with the 6-speed manual transmission.

The Honda E-Clutch allows shifting gears without having to use the clutch lever and will operate accordingly to ignore stalling the vehicle
The E-Clutch combines several elements of a quickshifter, a traditional manual clutch, and Honda's Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) to offer a seamless experience. You also get a clutch lever and shifter for manual control, like in a conventional motorcycle. The E-Clutch does add about 2.8 kg of additional weight to the motorcycles.

The 2025 Honda CB650R retains the neo-retro design language with a minimalist look and muscular styling. The bike gets a round LED headlamp, a sculpted fuel tank, and an exposed steel frame. The bike will be available in two colours Candy Chromosphere Red and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic. Power comes from the familiar 649 cc, liquid-cooled, inline four-cylinder engine tuned for 94 bhp at 12,000 rpm and 63 Nm of peak torque at 9,500 rpm. Suspension duties are handled by Showa 41 mm Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks at the front and an adjustable preload monoshock at the rear.
The CB650R is equipped with dual radial-mounted 310 mm floating discs at the front and a 240 mm single disc at the rear for braking performance, along with dual-channel ABS. Other features include a 5-inch TFT display with the Honda RoadSync app that brings calls, messages, and navigation via Bluetooth. The 2025 Honda CB650R with the E-Clutch is about ₹ 40,000 more expensive than the standard version.

The 2025 Honda CBR650R gets a full-fairing with the twin headlamp design. The styling is sporty inspired by the litre-class Fireblade and is available in two colours Grand Prix Red and Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic. Power on the CBR650R comes from the same 649 cc motor as the CB650R with the same output. The bike also gets Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) or traction control, for better control. Other hardware including the suspension setup and brakes are also shared with the CBR650R. Compared to the manual transmission version, the 2025 Honda CBR650R with E-Clutch is about ₹ 40,000 more expensive.

IOSR brings out technical glossary for engineering education in Odia
BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar-based Institute of Odia Studies & Research (IOSR) has prepared a glossary of 54,000 technical words in Odia which will be used in engineering education in the language. The first-of-its-kind glossary in a regional Indian language has been approved by the AICTE recently. Director of AICTE Sunil Kumar Luthra said the glossary would serve as a model for other states and would soon be uploaded to the e-Kumbh portal of AICTE from where students can download it. Odia researcher and chief coordinator of the translation initiative Subrat Prusty said most of the technical words used in engineering are of English, German, French and Latin origin and finding their regional translation is a difficult process. 'For example, the Hindi translation of computer is 'sanganak' and a few Odia students have started using it even if it is not an Odia word. This is why we have created a glossary of technical words which remain the same in both English and Odia languages, for easy understanding of the students. So, a computer will be written as computer in the Odia engineering book. In the absence of such a glossary, students usually use whatever translated words they pick up from search engines, which is wrong,' he said.

Indian auto industry may face disruption amid China's stricter Rare Earth export controls: Report
New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): The Indian automobile industry is expected to face disruptions following China's decision to tighten export controls on rare earth elements (REEs), which are critical in manufacturing chips used in automobiles, according to a report by Emkay Research. The report mentioned that China, which accounts for over 70 per cent of global REE production and controls more than 90 per cent of refining capacity, imposed stricter export regulations on several REEs from April 2025, citing national security and non-proliferation concerns. The report said 'The licensing for exports has become significantly longer. These delays have led to supply uncertainty across sectors reliant on these critical inputs'. It pointed out that electric passenger vehicles (E-PVs) and internal combustion engine passenger vehicles (ICE-PVs) are the most vulnerable within the Indian auto industry. Electric vehicles (EVs), passenger vehicles (PVs), two-wheelers (2Ws), and commercial vehicles (CVs), in that order, are likely to face the maximum disruption. High-performance EV motors, teh report said, require heavy rare earth elements (HREEs) such as dysprosium and terbium to maintain efficiency at high operating temperatures. For electric two-wheelers (E-2Ws), magnets used in motors cost around Rs 150, while in PVs the cost varies from Rs 2,000 to Rs 24,000 depending on the features. However, the issue is not just about cost but the availability of these critical components and the limited options for alternative sourcing. While ICE 2Ws and 3Ws remain relatively unaffected in the short term, E-2Ws that use permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are more vulnerable because of their limited design flexibility. As per report, while E-2Ws may undergo design changes in a short time (2-3 months), PVs and buses may require 6-12 months for complete motor redesigns due to stricter performance and space requirements. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), ICE-PV production could face cuts starting July 2025, while existing E-2W inventories may last only another 1 to 1.5 months unless alternative sourcing arrangements are made. Although countries like Brazil and Australia hold substantial REE reserves, with Brazil alone having 20 per cent of global reserves, China continues to exert significant financial and operational control over many of these resources. Chinese companies also hold stakes in Brazilian mines. In addition, while Vietnam and Malaysia host some refining capacity, they largely lack access to primary raw materials and remain dependent on China. The tightening of export controls by China is likely to create ripple effects across the global supply chain, with India's auto sector bracing for a challenging period ahead. (ANI)
