Kieran Tierney gives Celtic fans a 'definite' promise as emotional star vows 'I'm here for the rest of my career'
Kieran Tierney says he has no intention to leave Celtic again – telling fans 'I see myself being here for the rest of my career. '
The returning hero is back into the swing of things as Brendan Rodgers ' team ramp up pre-season and he was back to something approaching his best against Sporting CP on Wednesday night.
His return comes six years on from his £25m move to Arsenal, where injuries prevented him really kicking on and realising his potential down south.
But now Tierney is back where it started, he's hoping to make up for the time lost to bad luck on the injury front.
He's signed a long-term deal which runs until at least 2030 with the option to extend beyond that.
That would take him beyond his 33rd birthday and cement his status among the club's all-time greats.
So does he plan on seeing that contract out?
Yes... and then some.
He was asked about his long-term future at a fan media press conference and told CeltsAreHere: 'You don't come back to your home at 28 and think about going somewhere else again. Obviously in football, you never know — I learned that the first time around.
'I grew up never thinking I'd leave Celtic. But things happen. For me, I've signed a long-term deal, so I definitely see myself being here for the rest of my career.
'To be successful here is to keep Celtic at the top. That's the ambition — plain and simple. Keep Celtic at the top, that's what matters most to me.
'I don't know if I had solid plans. Like I said, in football anything can happen. But you're always thinking, 'Can it happen?' or 'When's the right time?' This time just felt perfect.'

Simpson-Pusey was crowned PL2 Player of the Year last season, and also made his City first-team bow. Boss Pep Guardiola handed him Premier League and Champions League debuts - branding the teenager "unbelievable". The City boss has earmarked the England youth cap as one for the future, but wants him to spend a season out on loan. Celts have allowed Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki to leave this summer and are in the market for another central defender. But Go Ahead technical director Jan Willem van Dop has told the Hoops to get serious about their interest in the £5millionrated forward. He claims the only official Celtic offer was way below valuation and revealed FC Twente have made a higher bid. Van Dop insists the Dutch side are willing to sell - but want the going rate. He said: "Breum is negotiable, but only if the price is right. We couldn't reach an agreement with Twente. "What I did find positive was that their thoughts were certainly higher than the official offer Celtic made. "That was €1.5m. Twente's thoughts were higher. I've told Celtic that we won't be accepting their offer." Celts could add two wingers between now and the transfer deadline, with Rodgers also looking for another striker. Celtic hero says he's a ‘proud dad' after watching his two sons play AGAINST each other in unique first
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FOR a father, few things beat watching your son grow up to follow in your footsteps - perhaps even more so when it involves playing football. So imagine the pride felt by one former Celtic icon who was able to watch two of his sons play AGAINST each other. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 3 Two players who know a thing or two about one another... That's exactly what happened when Thetford Town met Harleston Town in the ninth tier of English football last night. Playing in the Eastern Counties Football League Premier Division match were Ollie Sutton and Harry Sutton. They are sons of Hoops hero Chris Sutton, who was in the stands watching the game. What made the clash even more unique was that both players are GOALKEEPERS. Ollie signed for Harleston in May from Wroxham, where he had been captain. Harry is also a recent addition to the Thetford squad, joining just last week - and making his debut in a 3-0 win against Woodbridge. Ex-Celticstriker Sutton, 52, shared a photo of his two boys walking off the field after full-time, with the game finishing 1-0 to Thetford. Sutton said: "Proud dad seeing my two lads Ollie and Harry playing against each other. "Both played very well but Harry's Thetford Town edged Harleston 1-0. "Well played both teams." Major Mikey Moore Rangers loan doubts & 'strange situation' at Celtic + transfer news Go Ballistic Punters on Twitter were quick to comment on the game and the performances of both the Sutton boys. Arsenal's '11 unhappy players' claim as Viktor Gyokeres gets warning over three team-mates
Viktor Gyokeres may have set Arsenal back over £63million but the striker is not guaranteed a place in Mikel Arteta's starting lineup, according to an ex-Gunners star Mikel Arteta has been told he'll have the hardest job of his career this season handling his new and improved Arsenal squad. The Spaniard has spent over £200million so far in the summer transfer window as he looks to bolster his team in order to finally clinch Premier League and Champions League glory. The signing of Viktor Gyokeres is the latest addition to the north London side and one that fans will hope will rectify their striker issues. The Swede - who will don the famous number 14 for his new club - scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP and arrives with high expectations to fire Arsenal to silverware. Despite the fanfare surrounding the 27-year-old, his place at the centre of Arteta 's attack will not come without serious competition. Former Arsenal midfielder, Anders Limpar, has warned him that the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Mikel Merino will keep the Swedish international on his toes should he struggle to get off to a flying start. Speaking to AceOdds, he said: "It's still pre-season and everything can happen, but Gyokeres is going to compete with Gabriel Jesus first of all. Kai Havertz is a very intelligent and good player, and he can play in the number nine role as well of course, and we have even seen Merino play in that role. "So, in my opinion Arteta got four players to compete for the number nine position, but when you sign a player in that calibre and for that kind of money, you will obviously start him," said Limpar who spent four years at Highbury. "But it's up to Gyokeres to score goals and produce good chances, because he is not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup, but Arteta wants a hell of a team to compete for the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final." Arteta has succeeded in introducing more quality within his squad but with that comes difficulties said Limpar who admitted the Gunners boss will have to juggle 11 unhappy players in his team who'll grow frustrated due to their lack of action. "He needs 22 good players to win big trophies, and now he has four very good options for the number nine role," he added. "For Arteta it won't be a problem, but for the players it will be a problem, and to have so many stars, it will be a hell of a dressing room if only 11 players can play. "Then he will have maybe 10 or 11 unhappy players, and to cope with that is the hardest thing there is for a manager. The hardest thing for a manager at a top club is to cope with 20 superstars, but he wants the best players and then it's up to Arteta to pick the best players." Given Arsenal's long-standing chase for Gyokeres' signature, it's obvious how much they think of him as Arteta pinpointed exactly what makes him special when discussing the completion of the transfer. "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyökeres to the club," he said. "The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability have been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves. Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. "He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with his intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat. We're excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him. We welcome Viktor and his family to Arsenal."
