Tate McRae Earns First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 With ‘So Close To What'
It's the second top 10-charting effort for the singer-songwriter, who previously visited the region with the No. 4-peaking Think Later in December 2023. The album generated a trio of charted songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including the No. 3-peaking 'Greedy.'

So Close To What was announced in November 2024 and its release was preceded by three charted titles on the Hot 100, including a pair of top 40 hits: 'It's OK I'm OK' (No. 20, September 2024) and 'Sports Car' (No. 21 in February).
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new March 8, 2025-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's website on March 4. Of So Close To What's 177,000 first-week equivalent album units, SEA units comprise 105,000 (equaling 137.30 million on-demand official streams of the set's songs; McRae's biggest streaming week ever, and it debuts at No. 2 on Top Streaming Albums), album sales comprise 71,000 (her best sales week ever, it debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales) and TEA units comprise 1,000.
With So Close To What's launch of 177,000 equivalent album units, the set tallies the biggest debut week for a studio album by a woman since Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet bowed at No. 1 with 362,000 units on the Sept. 7, 2024-dated chart.
So Close To What's streaming activity was led by the tracks 'Sports Car,' 'Revolving Door,' 'It's OK I'm OK' and 'Dear God,' which collectively comprise a little more than a third of the album's total streams for the week.
So Close To What was released across an array of permutations and variants. It was issued as a standard 11-song digital download album, a 13-song physical set (on CD, cassette and vinyl), a 15-song digital download and streaming edition, a 16-song digital download and streaming set, and an 18-song digital download sold exclusively in McRae's webstore. Each variation of the album beyond the 11-song set contained the core 11 songs found on the standard edition, as well as additional tracks (which varied depending on the version).
The album's first-week sales were bolstered by its availability across four download variants (three widely available, and one exclusive to the artist's webstore), three CD variants (including one signed), seven vinyl variants (including two signed editions) and a cassette.
McRae ushered in the release of the new album with an appearance on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, along with interviews with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, iHeartRadio and Allure, among other outlets. The performer's Miss Possessive Tour kicks off on March 18 in Mexico City and has dates scheduled through Nov. 8 in Inglewood, Calif. McRae will play more than 80 dates in over 20 countries on three continents.
As for the rest of the top 10 on the latest Billboard 200 chart, it's a quiet week, as McRae's set is the lone new arrival in the region. PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake's $ome $exy $ongs 4 U falls to No. 2 in its second week, earning 119,000 equivalent album units (down 52%). The next five titles on the Billboard 200 are all former No. 1s: Kendrick Lamar's GNX holds at No. 3 (106,000 units; down 22%); SZA's SOS is a non-mover at No. 4 (82,000; down 13%); Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet slips 2-5 (76,000; down 51%); Bad Bunny's Debí Tirar Más Fotos falls 5-6 (63,000; down 6%); and The Weeknd's Hurry Up Tomorrow drops 6-7 (50,000; down 14%).
Chappell Roan's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess dips 7-8 (46,000 equivalent album units; down 5%), Morgan Wallen's chart-topping One Thing at a Time is stationary at No. 9 (41,000; up 4%), and Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft falls 8-10 (nearly 41,000; down 11%).

Sinead O'Connor Biopic Chronicling Singer's Early Years In the Works
The early life and times of late Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor will be the subject of an upcoming biopic. According to Variety, the project covering O'Connor's origin story is being helmed by Irish production company ie: entertainment, which executive produced and worked with the singer on the 2022 O'Connor documentary Nothing Compares; O'Connor died in July 2023 at age 56 of natural causes. Among the reported co-producers on the film are Irish indie film production company Nine Daughters (God's Creatures, Lady Macbeth) and See Saw Films (Slow Horses, The Power of the Dog). At press time spokespeople for O'Connor and ie:entertainment had not returned Billboard's request for comment on the film. BBC Films is funding the film's development. The film will reportedly focus on O'Connor's early life and journey through the music industry, telling the story of how 'one young woman from Dublin took on the world, examining how her global fame may have been built on her talent, but her name became synonymous with her efforts to draw attention to the crimes committed by the Catholic Church and the Irish state.' O'Connor burst onto the music scene in 1987 with her genre agnostic debut album, The Lion and the Cobra, which mixed beat-driven pop, goth rock, confessional folk, shoegaze and ethereal chants. The singer's shocking bald headed look and powerful vocals on songs such as the college rock hit 'Mandinka' and the jangly 'I Want Your (Hands on Me)' made her an instant fascination and landed her a Grammy nomination for best female rock vocal performance. From the beginning, O'Connor was a voice to be reckoned with, never holding her tongue or pulling punches when it came to calling out injustice or the abuse of power. She became a reluctant global superstar thanks to her Grammy-winning 1990 sophomore album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, which featured her beloved cover of the Prince-written 'Nothing Compares 2 U.' The intense scrutiny sometimes proved to be a struggle for O'Connor, who was an outspoken critic of the Catholic church and famously ripped up a picture of then Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live in 1992 while saying 'fight the real enemy' nearly a decade before John Paul publicly acknowledged the Catholic Church's long history of child sex abuse. O'Connor — who said she suffered sexual and emotional abuse as a child — was criticized by the likes of Madonna, actor Joe Pesci and the Anti-Defamation League for the action and two weeks later was booed during a 30th anniversary tribute concert for Bob Dylan at Madison Square Garden. The singer went on to release eight more albums during a career, jumping from reggae, to traditional Irish songs and fairly straight-ahead pop. The O'Connor biopic will come amidst a recent bumper crop of re-tellings of famous rock and pop legends, including the Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody, the Elton John biopic Rocketman, last year's Bob Dylan A Complete Unknown, as well as the upcoming Bruce Springsteen film Deliver Me From Nowhere, a quartet of Beatles movies in 2028 and either a TV series of film version of Madonna's early years. Drake And Lil Wayne's Early Collaboration Returns At A New High Point
Lil Wayne helped Drake begin his music career nearly two decades ago, and the two have been great friends and frequent collaborators ever since. The pair rank among the most successful in hip-hop history, and they regularly appear on the Billboard charts next to one another. This frame, Drake and Wayne jointly return to one list with a decade-plus-old tune — one which manages to somehow become an even bigger win than ever before. 'She Will' Returns at a New Peak 'She Will,' fronted by Wayne and featuring Drake, reappears on the Rap Streaming Songs chart this week. The collaboration comes back at No. 14 – 25 weeks into its time on the tally — and climbs to a new peak position on Billboard's ranking of the most-streamed rap tracks throughout the U.S. Tha Carter IV 'She Will' was pushed as a single from Wayne's album Tha Carter IV in August 2011. The tune arrived shortly before the full-length, the fourth in his famed Tha Carter series. Recently, 'She Will' has gone viral on TikTok, which has helped it reappear on the Rap Streaming Songs chart. 'She Will' Reached No. 3 on the Hot 100 During its initial run on Billboard's tallies, 'She Will' became a huge hit for both Wayne and Drake. The tune peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100, rose to No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, and missed out on becoming a champion on the Hot Rap Songs roster by just one spot. Drake Dominates the Rap Streaming Songs Chart The Rap Streaming Songs chart only features 15 spaces, and this week Drake claims one-third of all available real estate. In addition to 'She Will' reappearing in second-to-last place, the Canadian hip-hop powerhouse earns another comeback, as 'Wait For U' – fronted by Future and also featuring Tems – breaks back in at No. 12.
