Mount Bona took good improvement from her debut seventh here to win stylishly on a Heavy 10 in a Scone Super Maiden. Held up on the bend back in the field before coming between runners for fourth behind Rockbarton Angel at Newcastle. Bolt Away Now found the 1000m first-up too short. Won second-up over third track and distance last May. Antilocapra scored a nice first-up win at Scone before a third to Ballinderry Sal. Only battled away when sixth to Eclair Awesome at Gosford last start.
Stratified led all-the-way to Rouge Moulin at Mudgee before a second at Dubbo to How's It Kev and a third to Two Ya Got in the Wellington Town Plate. Gets a good run from the pole. Arctic Legend raced wide without cover when seventh to Retrieval here two starts ago. Bounced back with a good from Smoke On The Water win over this track and trip. Two Ya Got has strong claims on his Wellington win. Is a winner at his only run here.

RACE 7
West Of Africa went back from a wide gate and worked home well for third to Iowna Merc in the Ajax Stakes. Same thing in the Muswellbrook Cup when a three-quarter length third to Lavish Empire. Can settled a little closer from a good gate. Name Dropper comes up from Victoria with back-to-back wins at Flemington and Sandown before a disappointing last at Flemington on Mar 1. Has since had a nice right handed jumpout at Cranbourne. Green Shadows won the Goulburn Cup over this trip last year. Goes very well first-up and drawn ideally.

RACE 8
Super Sioux was hampered near the 600m by the eventual winner when runner-up to Powerstone at Gunnedah first-up before leading all-the-way for a length win from Enniroc over this track and distance. Quick Sharp raced outside the leader when a half-length second to Dashing Rupert at Scone before closing from well back when a half-length third to Rock 'N' Reign at Dubbo. Won on debut with Reece Jones who reunites with him. Dize has claims on her first-up win.

RACE 3
Imposing Tallulah ran down the order in the Country Championship Qualifier first-up before a Berrigan win and a third in the Tocumwal Cup. Races well on her home track. Wings Of Carmen was second last in the Championship Qualifier first-up. Overraced at Canberra second-up before coming back to his own age a long head third to Dupli Kate in the Wagga Guineas Prelude. Final Comment will take improvement from his first-up seventh behind Win The Day over 1400m at The Sapphire Coast.
RACE 4
Malinga Missile was okay in his first two starts when third at Bathurst and fourth at Wellington both over 1100m. Stepped up to 1400m at Goulburn on Apr 8 and scored a good win from Flying Chevrolet. Hard to beat again. Jato led all-the-way to beat Divron at Wagga on Nov 1 before a spell. Returned with third to Bon Holler at Wagga on Apr 13 after being difficult to load. Rileycat will be improved by her first-up fourth at Goulburn. Was a close runner-up at Canberra second-up last campaign.

Heavenly Kiss was just pipped by Frontex at Newcastle on Mar 7 before a fourth to Alabama Fox at Kembla and a fourth behind Sisu Spirit at Newcastle on Apr 12. In new stable and only has to run to her recent form to go close. Carry On Lizzy was just behind the placegetters at her first two runs before at third at Swan Hill. Was wide early before sitting outside the leader when fifth at Cranbourne last start. Sister Shay and Shebrings Beauty have claims.
Foreman's Gully was third in consecutive runs at Moe and Benalla after leading. Changed stables and led all-the-way for a big win over this trip at Wagga before a disappointing last at Seymour. Back right handed on his home track. Lightning Lizard just peaked late when third to Hells Son at Towong two starts back. Raced midfield and battled away when fifth to Climate Change at Werribee last start. Won his only start here on Jan 20. Rockbarton Shout and Soo Kiss Me have claims.

All eyes are on Central Coast here; the $1.4 million Inglis Australian Easter Yearling by Wootton Bassett out of Sunlight. Turned in two beautiful trials ahead of this much anticipated debut. Cosmonaut has race experience. Expecting him to be strong late here. Bet: Cabriole  to win, Cosmonaut  to place, exacta 2 to beat 3. RACE 2 British Gem can be forgiven for her underwhelming debut at Newcastle on May 3 given it was a heavy (10) track. Has only seen heavy ground in all of her trials and the one race start so suspecting that she will appreciate it a bit firmer. The Pearls has 'Oaks/Cups type' in her blood – literally – as a member of a prized family that boasts The Phantom, The Phantom Chance, The Twinkle, The Dimple and so many more. Be strong late here. Bet: British Gem each-way, quinella. Lady Boss has three wins and five placings from 12 starts. She has mixed and matched it with better horses than these. One start for one easy win here. Blue Willow is the fifth foal of Anamato which makes this filly a half-sister to Anamoe. This will be Anamoe's jockey James McDonald's first ride on Blue Willow in what is her city debut. All three runs were at Newcastle, each one better than the last. Bet: Lady Boss to win, exacta 2 to beat 10. RACE 4 Gatchan is a Norm Gardner-trained mare whose fourth dam is Who Can Say; the mother of Bounding Away. Gatchan has a get back, run on pattern which hasn't always helped and granted, is least presumably effective at Canterbury but she passed a lot of horses here the other day. Gatchan gets almost 10kg off Monarch's Brae but this Chris Waller and James McDonald topweight is working his way to a peak. He's a Canterbury horse having won four from nine here. Bet: Gatchan each-way, quinella 1,8. Gatekeeper is another James McDonald ride. He's one for one on Gatekeeper which was set aside after an impressive win here on debut in mid-January. He's a gelding but still can marvel at his pedigree being by Justify out of Nakeeta Jane. Trialled well, nice horse. Dashing Eagle descendant Hippolyte Rock was ridden by Tommy Berry when he won at Newcastle in March and he's there again today which is a positive lead. Bet: Gatekeeper to win, box First 4: Nos, 2,5,6,9,11. Apex has raced seven times for two wins, three seconds and a third. That third was behind Caulfield Guineas winner Private Life on debut. The Hawkes Racing gelding has finished runner-up in all three visits to Canterbury, two were at this same trip. Metaphorically has been gelded since he last appeared. Lightly raced, has deep form and the trials are excellent. Wave Breaker 's best would be good enough to win. Bet: Apex to win, Daily Double 1st Leg 3, 2nd Leg 2. Flying Destiny has five wins and 10 placings (seven of them seconds) from 21 career starts. On top of that, the Darby Racing galloper has raced at Canterbury three times for two wins and a second. He's always been a good fresh horse and the trials are suggestive of a bold return (as usual). Expecting a much better run, a more typical run in fact, from World Alliance. That was a very wet track there first-up for him at home. Won a trial since. Pink Shalala boasts the 1980 Golden Slipper winner, Dark Eclipse, as her sixth dam. Her numbers are impressive; nine runs, one win, four second and two thirds. Her record at this track and trip is three starts for a win and two seconds. Granted, it is not all lollipops and roses; she has been a bit costly at times for punters but barrier 4, James McDonald, third-up – really, she has to step up this time. Bonus Tempus could run well here at big odds as he is prone to do on occasions. Bet: Punk Shalala to win (best bet). â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET Both runs, either side of the spell, have had merit. Hasn't done much wrong and was good first-up here too. VALUE Dundeel three-year-old that seems eager to get a mile. Does now.

Matt Dale will weigh up Stradbroke Handicap tilt with Front Page after Moreton Cup win
It would be uncharted territory but trainer Matt Dale indicated 'the discussion will be had' about giving evergreen sprint warrior Front Page a crack at next Saturday's Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap. Rising nine-year-old Front Page has never won over 1400m – and indeed only raced over that trip once before – but on Saturday at Eagle Farm won the Group 2 Moreton Cup over 1200m which gives him a golden ticket into the Stradbroke (1400m). Connections would need to pay a hefty late-entry fee and they and Goulburn trainer Dale must decide whether it is worthwhile given Front Page is primarily known for his deeds over nippier sprint trips. But after scoring the Moreton Cup at Eagle Farm, Dale certainly wasn't ruling out a Stradbroke tilt. 'The (Stradbroke) discussion will be had,' Dale said. 'We will certainly give some thought to it. 'A decision will be made on Tuesday, he will either be racing in the Stradbroke or going out for a month in the paddock here in Queensland. 'It's a good problem to have. 'He is a tough old horse who is rock solid fit and he ran right through the line today. 'We will enjoy this win and then dissect everything.' Adding to the complexity of Dale's decision is that it looks, at least on paper, to be shaping up to be one of the weakest Stradbrokes in recent times. Progressive Lindsay Park sprinter War Machine tops the Stradbroke betting market but there are few in the likely Stradbroke field who are standing out on stalks seven days out from the great race. Even if he doesn't contest the Stradbroke, Front Page won more fans on Saturday with his first win since scoring the $2m The Kosciuszko in 2023, his second triumph in that rich race after also scoring it the previous year. Front Page ($4.40) settled down to fight the Moreton Cup out with Tony Gollan's galloper Hidden Wealth and was stronger in the final stages. 'He's just an absolute beauty,' Dale declared. 'We came up here today rapt with how the horse was. 'The track has dried out all week but the track is still a bit choppy, and at the top of the straight I thought we were in a little bit of trouble. 'But he was prepared to get down and dirty and tough it out. 'I didn't think he looked as comfortable as he does on a good surface, but Timmy (jockey Tim Clark) knows him well and he did a great job sitting off Hidden Wealth.' ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Gollan faces nervous Stradbroke wait with Transatlantic - Daniel Pace Brisbane's premier trainer Tony Gollan has already tasted Group 1 glory this winter carnival with local star Antino, now he could get an unexpected chance to add to his haul. Gollan is sweating on a ratings bump for Transatlantic and the attrition rate in the upcoming Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) to qualify for Queensland's premier race at Eagle Farm next Saturday. The potential bonus to Gollan's epic Doomben Cup (2000m) victory with Antino two weeks ago came after the four-year-old gelding Transatlantic won a nailbiter in the Spear Chief Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Transatlantic had a 99 rating and was No.35 in the Stradbroke ballot order heading into the Spear Chief (1500m). 'He'll definitely be running (in the Stradbroke) if he gets in it,' Gollan said about the seven-day backup. 'It's now up to the handicapper to determine what they want to do with his rating. 'I've always had the Stradbroke in the back of my mind, this was a low percentage play to try to get him into the race. But I wanted to see him back winning. 'We'll see how it plays out with the attrition rate, but if everything marries up we'll be back here next week (for the Stradbroke). 'I've always thought he was a Stradbroke horse for some time.' 'The other day, I thought he was wanting to get out to this sort of trip, and he travelled like the winner a long way from home,' Gollan said. 'Ryan put him into a good position, and we made a subtle gear change with the winkers going on, which had him focused a touch better. 'He's a really nice horse, you saw how well he paraded today. He looks fantastic and he's still on the way up. 'That will have brought him on nicely. If we don't get into the Stradbroke then you might see him in the Wayne Wilson Mile instead.' In the earlier Queensland Day Stakes, $23 roughie Cosmic Fire won the Listed 1200m race ahead of Gerringong ($4) and topweight Coleman ($9) for trainer Billy Healey. 'He's just so honest and he continues to put up a fight every time we send him around,' Healey said 'He's had not much luck a few times but he's a horse who really put me on the map the last 12 months so I owe a lot to him.'

Sunrays ends stellar campaign in Show A Heart as trainer resists Group 1 JJ Atkins lure

Schweida then grabbed a double early in the card, with Cejay Graham piloting $20 chance Vodka Martini to victory in the 1000m Lightning Handicap, ahead of Austmarr ($7) and the Schweida-trained Metalart ($6) Owner Peter Moran may have been tempted to run her in the JJ Atkins (1600m) but he and Schweida will stick to their guns and send Sunrays for a rest. Asked if the supremely gifted filly, who has now won five of her six races, could have been competitive in the JJ Atkins, Berry didn't hesitate in his response: 'If she didn't run today then yes. 'The aim was to run today and then go to the paddock. But running today, I felt like she was on the way down now. I don't think she was at her best today. 'She was a little bit flat in the way she raced and she didn't travel up that well for me off the bridle so she's got improvement 'At her best, if she'd missed today and had the extra week in between runs, for her to run top three (in the JJ Atkins) wouldn't have been out of her means.' It would have been tough for Sunrays to back-up just seven days later in a long campaign that started in late January and finished with Saturday's mighty effort when the $3.20 favourite beat Jenni Gone Bonkers ($10) and Navy Pilot ($5.50) on a Soft 5 track. 'She'll be going straight for a spell now, so that was a great way to sign off her prep,' Schweida said. 'It was a great win, I don't think I've seen a jockey look more confident than Tommy did. 'He was pretty adamant she would be hard to beat, but she still had to tick the 1500m box and also the Eagle Farm box today. 'She's just so tough and she's done it all off her first prep, which is why we elected not to take her to the Group 1 next week (JJ Atkins). She's done a super job.' Picture: Trackside Photography Berry said he felt lucky to pick up the ride from regular jockey Cejay Graham, with the top Sydney hoop guiding her to wins in the Group 3 Ken Russell Stakes (1200m) on the Gold Coast and the Listed Bill Carter Stakes (1350m) at Doomben last month. 'Cejay had done a really good job on her before I picked up the ride,' he said. 'She gave me some really good insight into what she was like to ride, so that made things much easier for me. 'She's a lovely progressive filly, and I still think the best is yet to come with her. 'If you look at her frame she probably hasn't filled into it yet. She's still a bit narrow but there's nothing wrong with her heart, she had to dig deep today. 'It's very exciting to see what she can do over the spring.'
