Alrosa has announced that it will begin field tests in September for a pioneering technology aimed at boosting productivity and speeding up diamond extraction, with plans to roll it out globally if successful.
According to a statement on the company's website last week, the new unit will quadruple kimberlite ore processing capacity to 300 tonnes per hour.
Innovative Diamond Separator
The new technology—a diamond separator—will sort diamonds from waste rock by combining two methods: X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and radiography, enabling faster and more precise diamond recovery.
Unlike previous stationary models, the universal separator features a containerized design, allowing for easy transport between sites and direct use at mining locations, including outdoor environments.
A Globally Unique Design
'Andrey Naskailev, head of Alrosa's Innovation and Technology Center, said: 'The creation of the universal separator was carried out in close cooperation between teams from the Innovation and Technology Center, the Burevestnik Innovation Center, and the Udachny Mining and Processing Plant of Alrosa. Many technical solutions were developed from scratch—there is no equivalent to this device anywhere in the world.''
From Pilot Trials to Field Operations
Following a series of successful pilot tests, Alrosa engineers produced a working prototype of the separator, which demonstrated stable performance across all systems during trials at the Burevestnik Center.
The unit is now deployed at one of the company's processing plants and will undergo field testing next month. If results are positive, Alrosa plans to begin large-scale commercial production.

Egypt, Jordan sign 10 cooperation agreements - Foreign Affairs

The Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee concluded its 33rd session in Amman on Tuesday with the signing of 10 cooperation documents and memoranda of understanding in fields that serve to enhance bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Jordan. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Jordanian counterpart, Jaafar Hassan, presided over the session, which was attended by a host of ministers representing both countries. The signed agreements include cooperation in investment, consumer protection, local development, cultural heritage protection, planning, youth, and government procurement. They also involve executive programmes for coordination in religious affairs, tourism and antiquities, and high-level financial dialogue, as well as initiatives to advance joint projects in line with the two countries' economic priorities. During the session, Madbouly affirmed that Cairo seeks to bolster cooperation with Jordan in many essential fields, including electrical interconnection, which would benefit several countries in the region. He also expressed Egypt's readiness to support joint investments and praised the scale of Jordanian investments in Egypt. Both prime ministers highlighted promising opportunities in trade, transport, and tourism, signalling the importance of activating cooperation with Iraq within the 'Egyptian-Jordanian-Iraqi' trilateral cooperation mechanism. For his part, Hassan expressed Jordan's interest in drawing on Egypt's expertise in building an administrative city, referencing Egypt's New Administrative Capital project. In response, PM Madbouly affirmed his eagerness to cooperate with Jordan on this matter. The Jordanian premier also affirmed that the measures the Jordanian government is undertaking to regularize and rectify labour status are never meant to reduce Egyptian labour. Palestinian cause PM Madbouly also highlighted the continued cooperation and coordination between both countries' political leaderships in support of the Palestinian people, particularly facing Israeli attempts to liquidate their cause, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank. Additionally, the Egyptian premier reviewed Egypt's ongoing mediation efforts, along with Qatar and the United States, to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, in addition to its preparations for hosting the International Conference on the Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza once a ceasefire is reached. For his part, PM Hassan expressed his appreciation for Egypt's prominent role in supporting the Palestinian cause and the humanitarian assistance it provides for the Palestinians in Gaza. Standard Chartered: Egypt to receive US$6 Billion from Qatar and Kuwait before end of 2025

The Standard Chartered Bank said that the Egyptian economy will remain strong, with macroeconomic stability despite rapid global shifts – particularly in the United States, China, and the Eurozone. In a report titled 'Global Focus – Economic Outlook for the Second Half of 2025', the bank explained that this outlook is fueled by strong foreign exchange inflows from portfolio investments and official sectors, increasing confidence in the Egyptian pound. Standard Chartered expects more than 50 percent of the major investment pledges from Qatar and Kuwait, totaling US$ 12.5 billion, to be disbursed by the end of this year. It added that despite the Central Bank of Egypt's continued monetary easing policy to stimulate growth, the carry trade remains at the forefront of investor interest, supported by the success of the foreign exchange convertibility test. Standard Chartered noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has affirmed its interest in advancing structural reforms in Egypt, calling for the adoption of tighter fiscal policies and accelerating privatization efforts. These reforms aim to boost investment flows, paving the way for sustainable growth in the country. The Bank forecasts Egypt's GDP to grow by 4.5 percent in fiscal year 2026, emphasizing the pivotal role private investment plays in stimulating economic recovery. The CEO of Standard Chartered Egypt, Mohamed Gad, explained that the Egyptian economy continues to progress toward a promising path, expecting the current account deficit to narrow, supported by a rise in remittances from Egyptians working abroad, which jumped by about 60 percent year-on-year in March – in addition to a recovery in the export sector. According to the report, inflation is likely to stabilize in the 13-17 percent range, while the CBE is expected to approach interest rate cuts cautiously, with the key interest rate expected to reach 19.25 percent by the end of the year. Average inflation is estimated to reach around 11 percent in fiscal year 2026, with continued cost pressures in the healthcare, food, and transportation sectors. However, Egypt's proactive policy measures are believed to help overcome these challenges and strengthen the economy's long-term resilience. Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm

Trump to Host S. Korean President at White House

Israa Farhan US President Donald Trump will welcome South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to the White House on 25 August for talks covering their recent trade agreement, semiconductor cooperation, shipbuilding, and other strategic issues, according to Seoul officials. This summit marks the first meeting between the two leaders since Lee's election in June, which followed the removal of his predecessor after declaring martial law. In response to proposed tariff reductions from 25 percent to 15 percent, President Trump announced in July that South Korea would invest 350 billion US dollars in the United States and purchase 100 billion US dollars' worth of energy-related products. Trump also noted that Seoul had agreed to make a significant additional investment, with details to be revealed during President Lee's visit to Washington. Lee's office said the meeting will focus on elevating the alliance into a future-oriented strategic partnership in light of shifting global, security, and economic conditions. A South Korean presidential spokesperson confirmed that discussions will address cooperation in manufacturing sectors such as semiconductors, batteries, and shipbuilding, as well as economic security partnerships involving advanced technology and critical minerals. South Korean officials emphasized that Seoul's commitment to helping the United States revive its shipbuilding industry is key to finalizing the trade deal. Washington has been increasingly looking to overseas shipyards to strengthen its military operations, positioning South Korea as a pivotal defence partner. In 2024, Hanwha Ocean, one of South Korea's largest shipbuilding companies, became the first non-US firm to be authorized to conduct dry-dock maintenance on US Navy vessels. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani
