Boys Night Out secures trainer Matt Dunn his 39th Highway victory at Rosehill after 46-week drought
Leading country trainer Matt Dunn ended a 46-week drought Highway drought when Boys Night Out made light work of his opposition at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Dunn, the state's most successful Highway Handicap-winning trainer, last won one when Cranky Harry saluted at Royal Randwick on July 13 last year.
Boys Night Out 's 1500m win was Dunn's 39th Highway victory and winning jockey Aaron Bullock said the four-year-old gelding has bigger things ahead.
'It's not often you get one that's a standout in a Highway but today I was confident that was the case,' Bullock said.
'He was dynamite. He's better than a Highway horse.'
Bullock's only concern during Saturday's contest was a foreign object being carried by Anna Roper aboard Straight Fire.
'In the early stages Anna (Roper) crossed me with the towel flapping all over the joint,' he said.
'She must have forgotten to get rid of it before the race and it wasn't until after we'd gone about 400m, when luckily she'd crossed me and gone down to the fence, that the towel went flying.'
That's a sign for the boys!

Boys Night Out made use of barrier two, never further than a few horses off the speed before being eased out into clear running from the top of the straight and the race was quickly put to bed.
The son of Nay Nay Never (USA) started the $2.80 favourite and defeated My Last Hooray ($13) by 3¾ lengths with the $3.20 second favourite Warrior For Peace a half-length back in third.
'Soft draws always help and I was able to put him into the perfect spot, he got into lovely rhythm and I was saying 'woo boy' at the corner,' Bulloch said.
'He was getting through the ground really easily and it was a case of going at the right time and in the end it didn't matter because he had plenty on them.'

Two men rescued after paragliding mishaps in Sydney, NSW

A paraglider is 'lucky to be alive' following a gruelling five-hour rescue after crashing into a cliff on the south coast of Sydney on Saturday afternoon. Paolo, a man in his 50s collided into a cliff near Otford Rd at Stanwell Tops about 1pm on Saturday, before plunging down 10 metres and injuring his shoulder. The five-hour rescue operation was conducted as a joint effort between the NSW Police Rescue, SES crews, specialist paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW, to stabilise and hoist Paolo up the cliff face and through intense bushland to safety. 'I'm so grateful to have this amazing team, they are incredible and yeah, I'll be fine,' Paolo said, while atop a rescue stretcher. 'It was my mistake actually, I did some move. Picture: 7News The injured Paolo was taken in a stable condition to St George Hospital about 6pm, by paramedics. 7News reports the authorities thought Paolo would be in a much more serious condition with a rescue chopper arriving to airlift him, but he was instead transported by road to hospital to treat his shoulder injury. Emergency services responded to reports a man had fallen four metres onto rocks at the base of Funnels Creek Waterfall at 2pm on Saturday. Police were told a 24-year-old man was with a group of friends and was climbing the 8m ledge before jumping into a Rockpool. The 24-year-old was found to be conscious but suffering injuries to his head, right shoulder and left ankle. The man was retrieved by vertical rope lift when it was determined he could not be winched out by helicopter. A joint effort was conducted with a helicopter transporting a medical crew to the scene to stabilise the man before the retrieval operation was commenced with the police Rescue, NSW ambulance paramedics, and SES members. In the early hours of Sunday, at 3am, the man was successfully extricated and was taken by road ambulance to Goulburn Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Stern Idol gives Steven Pateman the full set in Australian Steeplechase win

Star jumper Stern Idol produced a sublime display – under a modern weight-carrying record – to win the Australian Steeplechase (3900m) at Sandown on Sunday. Champion jumps jockey Steven Pateman rated the Ciaron Maher-trained 73kg top weight perfectly in pursuit of a personal milestone, the previously elusive Australian Steeplechase crown. Pateman boasted just about every other domestic jumps feature, including Australian Hurdle (four), Grand National Steeple (four), Grand National Hurdle (four) and Grand Annual Steeple (three), but an Australian Steeplechase win had eluded him before Sunday. He largely dictated the Australian Steeple aboard Stern Idol from on or close to the speed and then fended off the gallant runner-up Leaderboard, trained by Mark Walker, in the home straight. Not Usual Dream and Heir To The Throne rounded out the top four. Leaderboard enjoyed an economical steer from Will Gordon and 7kg weight advantage on Stern Idol. Pateman lauded Stern Idol's performance. 'I wasn't leading from the get go and I was happy for that to unfold,' Pateman said. '73kg leading all the way could've been his undoing. He was awesome. 'It was pretty lonely after the last with 73kg, knowing the second horse had (seven) kilos less. 'He was weighed down, he maintained the gallop but couldn't go any faster because of the weight. 'I was thinking 'I'd never won this race' … the Australian Hurdle and Australian Steeple are absolutely time-honoured events, it's super special.' Bit Of A Lad, saddled by Maher and former co-trainer David Eustace at the time, carried 70kg to win the 2020 Australian Steeple. Mazzacano (2009) lumped 69.5kg, while Thubiaan (2015) and Vindicating (2011) had 69kg handicaps. Pateman said Stern Idol benefited from a campaign – a flat run and two hurdle starts – tailored to the 'target' Australian Steeple. 'He could've run in steeplechases earlier in the year and carried big weights and might've won one but too hard all the time,' he said. 'Today was a target, the way he settled he knew where he was, he knew the trip he had to run out and he was really chill.' Sadly, Treasured Crown failed to finish and was humanely euthanized due a catastrophic leg injury. The second favourite sustained the injury upon landing after the second last jump.
