Ensure Chandrabhaga's banks remain open for holy bath: Pulkundwar

Kolhapur: The Chandrabhaga River, which flows through the temple town of Pandharpur in Solapur district, has swollen following the release of water from the
Ujani Dam
. With Ashadi Ekadashi approaching, Pune divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has directed the Solapur administration to reduce the river's water level to ensure safe access to the riverbanks for Warkaris arriving for the holy dip.
Pulkundwar chaired a review meeting with officials in Pandharpur on Tuesday. He noted that the Bhima River is referred to as the Chandrabhaga River when it passes through the town.
"The administration should ensure the safety of the Warkaris arriving. The water level of the Chandrabhaga River is increasing. The authorities should submit a report suggesting measures to bring down the water level of the river and make the banks open for the Warkaris," said Pulkundwar.

Solapur District Collector Kumar Ashirwad highlighted the measures being taken to facilitate safe pilgrimage and river transport. "We have made a comprehensive plan for water transport. The boat operators are given the required training. We are making around 1,050 life-saving jackets for the devotees taking boat rides," he said, adding that 220 boats are currently operational to ferry pilgrims.
To manage expected heavy rains, gravel is being laid at Palkhi halting points, and special waterproof pandals will be erected along the routes within Pandharpur.
