Amazon Prime fans say twisted new horror flick will 'haunt your mind'

The Ugly Stepsister is a new horror movie that takes a dark and twisted look at the fairytale of Cinderella, and Amazon Prime viewers are not sure whether they can handle it
Released earlier in 2025, the new horror flick The Ugly Stepsister has been making waves on Amazon Prime among aficionados of the genre, with glowing reviews flooding the internet.
The Ugly Stepsister is a Norwegian-language satirical dark film marking the directorial debut of Emilie Blichfeldt. It's a twisted reimagining of the classic fairy tale Cinderella, where Elvira, the ugly stepsister, competes against her beautiful sibling for physical perfection to catch the prince's eye, resorting to extreme measures to impress him.

Several reviews have drawn parallels between its exploration of women's beauty standards and patriarchal flaws and those depicted in the Oscar-winning film The Substance. One critique on Rotten Tomatoes reads: "If The Substance turned it up to 11, The Ugly Stepsister clocks in at a solid 10.

"A retelling of Cinderella told from the perspective of Cinderella's step-family members, this film comments as well on the awful lengths women will go to to enhance their beauty. Like The Substance, this film was also made by a woman director with a focused, cinematic style that conveys the story and commentary with admirable clarity and brevity."
Another review enthuses: "Highly enjoyed the hell out of this and really admired the heartbreaking, twisted, dark take by director Emilie Blichfeldt on the legendary Cinderella story with a different psychological horror perspective from the evil stepsister. The cinematography by Marcel Zyskind is mesmerising, bringing a suffocating cold atmosphere that will haunt the mind."
The film features several disturbing scenes, as per the Mirror US, including the young women undergoing a series of painful plastic surgeries, with one sister even resorting to swallowing a tapeworm in a desperate attempt to lose weight. As their behaviour spirals out of control, Elviria becomes malnourished and starts to lose her hair, all while preparing for a grand ball where their prince awaits.
Emilie Blichfeldt has garnered significant attention for her work on this film, serving as both director and scriptwriter. Having previously worked on smaller film projects, this marks her first major success following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
Despite featuring a lesser-known Norwegian cast, The Ugly Stepsister has had a profound impact on viewers, with Lea Myren and Thea Sofie Loch Næss delivering standout performances as the two rival sisters. Their portrayals have been hailed as a "breath of fresh air," and when paired with the powerful script, have sparked a much broader conversation.

One viewer praised the film, stating: "It has poignant body horror to go along with the themes of body dysmorphia and narcissism with a heavy synth score reminiscent of the dark fantasy subgenre of the 1980s.
It ties in elements of the Brothers Grimm fairytale as well as elements of the beloved Disney classic film. Another critic hailed the movie, stating: "This film is a wild ride! A dark, twisted take on the Cinderella story that dives deep into themes of beauty and envy. The body horror elements are intense, and the performances are top-notch. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you're into psychological horror with a fairy tale twist, this one's for you."
With its substantial body horror components and superb acting, this film isn't for the squeamish. But for those intrigued by a psychological terror with an enchanted spin, this flick is a must.
For those in pursuit of a spine-chilling viewing experience, The Ugly Stepsister can be streamed presently on Amazon Prime.

Pamela Anderson finally gives her verdict on Meghan Markle 'copying' her cooking show

Pamela Anderson has finally spoken out on claims Meghan Markle 'ripped off' her cooking programme - that was released just before Meghan's own Netlix show Pamela Anderson has revealed what she really thinks of Meghan Markle's Netflix show - after it drew comparisons with her own cooking programme that was released a few days before. ‌ The ex-Baywatch star released 'Pamela's Cooking With Love' in February 2025. It premiered on the Flavour Network in Cananda before dropping on Amazon Prime, where UK viewers can currently watch it. ‌ It follows the 58-year-old, who has been vegan for more than 30 years, as she "invites some of today's most sought-after chefs to join her on a stunning rural property on Vancouver Island, where together, they'll prepare delicious plant-based meals." ‌ Then in March, 'With Love, Meghan' premiered on Netflix, following the Duchess of Sussex as she "invites friends and famous guests to a beautiful California estate, where she shares cooking, gardening and hosting tips. At the time Meghan was accused of 'copying' Pamela's new lifestyle series - with the two shows even sharing similar names. And the trailer for Pamela's show was released in October 2024, nearly three months before Meghan dropped hers. ‌ There is even similar dialogue, with Pamela explaining how "I just always have wanted to take things to another level". While Meghan declares: "I've always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it." Both women are also seen high-fiving guests in the short snippets. Fans were quick to notice the similarities, with one noting on X: "The entire concept is strikingly similar." As another vented: "Markle's show is a straight copy of Pamela Anderson's cooking and entertaining show. Go look at the trailer!" ‌ A third posted: "If you watch the trailer for Pamela's new show, it's a more authentic version of what Meghan was trying to achieve & it looks as though Meghan has copied everything! The trailers are so similar it's freaky." Now Pamela - who remained tight-lipped earlier this year - has had her say on what she thinks of the 'copycat' claims. Appearing on US chat show 'Watch What Happens Live', she played a game of 'Plead the Fifth' with host Andy Cohen. During the quick fire segment, she was asked: "On a scale of 1 to 10, how much of a rip off did you feel like With Love, Meghan was of your show Pamela's Cooking With Love? There were articles saying these two shows were very similar." ‌ Pamela replied: "One," to which a shocked Andy said: "One? You didn't see any similarities?" Keeping things cordial, the actress went on to say: "No, but I didn't really look. I didn't invent cooking shows or anything," before adding of Meghan: "She's just doing her thing." She was then asked about Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone denying her claim that he once offered her a "condo and a Porsche to become his number one girl". There was no hesitation from Pamela as she replied: "Come on, why would I make that up?" But the question she dodged and used her 'Plead the Fifth' on was 'Rank your husbands from favourite to least favourite' referring to her four marriages to Tommy Lee, Kid Rock, Rick Salomon and Dan Hayhurst.

Kerry Katona reveals devastating health condition after split from ex-fiancé

Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona has revealed she has secretly been suffering from a devastating health condition following her split from fiancé Ryan Mahoney after six years Kerry Katona has revealed her health took a turn following her split from her fiancé Ryan Mahoney as she was left struggling with a devastating condition. The former Atomic Kitten star, 44, split from personal trainer Ryan, 36, in November after six years together. ‌ At the time, Kerry cited a "breach of trust" in their decision to go their separate ways. She admitted she became "exhausted" with her heartache as it started to take a toll on her health. ‌ Kerry decided to keep busy with her gruelling on stage performances in a Cinderella pantomime, all while struggling with alopecia. It comes after her best pal Katie Price worries fans with appearance in family photo after explaining weight loss. ‌ The mum-of-five was doing up to three performances a day in her Christmas panto when she noticed her hair loss. According to the NHS, alopecia is a general term for hair loss which can be widely spread or limited to one area. Alopecia can be temporary or permanent. "It was heartbreak, it was exhausting. I also got alopecia. It was really stressful," Kerry told Daily Mail. ‌ She revealed her hair is yet to regrow as she has said she's "still bald". Kerry said her hair loss has been confined to her scalp and is remaining positive about the situation. "It's only hair," she said. "It will grow back. I wear tape extensions because it all started falling out." In 2021, Kerry shared how her hair started to fall out due to the amount of hair extensions she was wearing. She said at the time she "hated" how "fine and wispy" her blonde locks were as she blamed "years and years of putting extensions after extensions in my hair". However, this time Kerry has said stress has caused her hair loss. ‌ In an effort to move on from Ryan, Kerry has stepped back out into the dating pool as has grown close to personal trainer Paolo Margaglione. She signed up to Celebs Go Dating in an effort to find her perfect match. However, it seemed the pair may have faced some bumps in the road already after snaps of the pair in Ibiza seemed to show them in a tense exchange. A source claimed that, while they're totally 'smitten' with each other, Kerry is nervous about putting yet another relationship in the public eye. 'Kerry is being very cautious with this romance,' they told the Mirror. 'She has been very wary about going public with Paolo and it impacting their relationship. ‌ "She's been down the route of high-profile, public relationships before and she doesn't want anything to ruin things this time.' Kerry and father-of-two Paolo, 33, are thought to have met during the new series of Celebs Go Dating. However, Kerry has remained resolutely tight-lipped on her new relationship. The source added: 'Kerry's worries have caused some tense moments as she doesn't want any exterior drama getting in the way. "But Paolo isn't overthinking it – he's just really happy to be with her. He doesn't see the problem and is telling her not to worry, they're great together and should just enjoy what they've got.'

Loni Anderson dead: Burt Reynolds' ex-wife and WKRP in Cincinnati star dies at 79

Loni Anderson, who portrayed a struggling radio station's empowered receptionist on the beloved TV comedy WKRP in Cincinnati, has died days before her 80th birthday. Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a "prolonged" illness, confirmed her long-time publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan. "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother," Anderson's family said in a statement. Anderson, a major fixture on CBS, was previously wed to actor Burt Reynolds. Anderson shot to stardom portraying Jennifer on WKRP in Cincinnati, a CBS sitcom that ran from 1978 to 1982. Based around an Ohio radio station making the switch from easy listening to rock 'n' roll, the programme became a sensation partly due to Anderson's unforgettable performance. The ensemble included Gary Sandy, Howard Hesseman, Tim Reid, Frank Bonner, and Jan Smithers, reports the Mirror US. Anderson's contribution to the series gained her two Emmy Award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations, establishing her as a pop culture legend of the late 1970s and early '80s. Among those paying tribute to the star was fellow actress Barbara Eden. The I Dream of Jeannie star shared an emotional post on Twitter /X, saying: "Like many, I am absolutely stunned and heartbroken. Our friendship has spanned many years, and news like this is never easy to hear or accept." She went on: "She was a real talent, with razor smart wit and a glowing sense of humor… but, even more than that, she had an impeccable work ethic. Even beyond that, Loni was a darling lady and a genuinely good person … I am truly at a loss for words." And she ended, saying: "Loni, you were one in a trillion, my friend, and even a trillion more. -Barbara." Anderson's co-star Morgan Fairchild, who starred alongside her in the 2023 Lifetime film, Ladies of the '80s: A Divas Christmas, said: "#OnMyWalk to memories of lovely Loni Anderson, one of the genuinely nicest ladies I've ever worked with, on set of our Christmas movie with Donna Mills. We had so much fun on this! She will be greatly missed!" Away from the cameras, Anderson became a tabloid favourite following her marriage to Burt Reynolds in 1988. The pair appeared together in the 1983 racing comedy Stroker Ace, but it was their real-life romance, and subsequent divorce in 1994, that maintained her presence in the media spotlight. In 1995, she released her autobiography, My Life in High Heels, which she described as a tale of tenacity. "It's about the growth of a woman, a woman who survives," she shared with The Associated Press at that time. "It's about my childhood, the death of my parents, my career, my divorces, and my children. Then of course, the trauma of my marriage to Burt." She went on to say, "I think if you're going to write about yourself, you have to do it warts and all. You may not even tell the nicest things about yourself, because you're telling the truth." Anderson's legacy is carried on by her husband Bob Flick, daughter Deidra, son-in-law Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, and grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman.
