Meghan Markle 'banned' from royal meeting over 'smarter than Harry' fears

Daily Mirror4 days ago

When a crucial meeting was called to decide Prince Harry and Meghan's future, the Duchess was left out of proceedings over fears that she was 'smarter' and would be harder to railroad, a new documentary has claimed
After Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex made the shock announcement five years ago that they intended to step back as full-time working royals, the rest of the House of Windsor was left scrambling. Whilst Meghan and Harry had always seemed confident and at ease during their official engagements, and been firm favourites amongst royal fans, behind closed doors things were not working for their young family - and they decided something had to change.
The late Queen Elizabeth called a meeting at her private Norfolk estate, Sandringham, to discuss the next steps, and finalise what Harry and Meghan's future would look like, and what, if any, ongoing formal ties there would be between them and the monarchy.

The former monarch brought her private secretary, and invited Charles and Prince William - both at the time future Kings - to the meeting, which was dubbed the 'Sandringham Summit'.

A new documentary on Channel Five - Megxit: Inside the Sandringham Summit - has seen royal experts come together to explain what really happened at the behind-closed-doors sit down with the senior royals, and it includes some shocking claims.
Meghan was not in attendance at the Sandringham Summit, having returned to Canada - where the Sussex family had been staying for some time - to be with Archie, who was then just a baby.
She had hoped to dial into the meeting remotely, but this was quickly dashed, so Harry had to go it alone and argue his case to his family - and the institution of the monarchy itself - solo.

However, one royal expert in the documentary has made the shocking claim that "the real reason" why Meghan was not allowed to join the meeting was because she was "smarter" than her husband.
Journalist and expert Emily Andrews claimed, "They all knew that Meghan was probably smarter, brighter, had a more linear view of where she and Harry were going and what they wanted and they probably thought they would get a better outcome with just Harry."

The Duchess of Sussex has made it clear that she didn't think it was particularly fair that she wasn't allowed to join the summit that would have such a personal impact on her, saying in the couple's self-titled Netflix documentary: "Imagine a conversation, a roundtable discussion, about the future of your life, when the stakes are this high, and you as the mom, the wife, and the target in many regards aren't invited to have a seat at the table."

Expert Charlotte Griffiths said in the new documentary for Channel 5, "I have to say, on that, I sort of agree with her," and another royal expert - Jack Royston - echoed these sentiments.
"I have a lot of sympathy for Meghan," the expert said, "watching from afar as this all played out basically having no voice in the room".
However, one royal expert - Richard Kay - claimed in the documentary that the rest of the senior royals and their aides, "would have no way of knowing who else would have been in the room with Meghan, would there have been someone making notes? They simply couldn't allow that."

Shaquille O'Neal's £370m fortune, six kids receiving nothing, world record Walmart spend

Shaquille O'Neal's £370m fortune, six kids receiving nothing, world record Walmart spend Shaquille O'Neal is the subject of a new Netflix docuseries and the NBA legend has enjoyed huge business success away from the basketball court, but he has not always been careful with money Shaquille O'Neal has enjoyed successful basketball and business careers (Image: Jamie Schwaberow/NBAE via Getty Images ) Shaquille O'Neal has built a sizable fortune since beginning his NBA career over three decades ago. The 53-year-old basketball icon was formidable on the court, and the center became a four-time NBA champion. He was named season MVP in 2000, a three-time NBA finals MVP and a 15-time All-Star. O'Neal enjoyed a Hall of Fame career and arguably found equal success away from the basketball court. ‌ The TNT analyst has numerous business ventures and was named Reebok's president of basketball in 2023. His work alongside NBA legend Allen Iverson to help improve the brand's reputation within the sport is the subject of a new Netflix docuseries, Power Moves with Shaquille O'Neal, which is released today. ‌ Netflix star The show details how Reebok, once synonymous with basketball in the early 2000s, had tasked O'Neal and Iverson with restoring the brand's standing within the sport. The latter was named Reebok's vice-president of basketball. It shows their search for Reebok's marquee name from the next generation, seemingly landing on WNBA rising star Angel Reese, who has previously described O'Neal as a 'father figure'. 'Shaq' was credited with making a significant difference at Reebok, before the Netflix show's release. "There's a powerful shift happening at Reebok right now, and Power Moves lets the world experience it with us," Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky said."This isn't just a comeback, it's a cultural movement, fueled by purpose, passion, and the kind of leadership that inspires real change. Jersey Legends saw that spark and knew this was the moment to capture. His salary reached as high as £20.3m ($27.6m) at the Miami Heat, with his career earnings totalling £215m ($292m). ‌ That figure does not include his various sponsorship and endorsement deals with the likes of Papa Johns and Pepsi. It is estimated that O'Neal has a net worth of £370m ($450m) through his NBA salaries, media work, endorsement deals, and business ventures. 'Shaq', an early investor in Google, has spoken about his preference for investing in established franchises. He purchased 155 Five Guys restaurants, owns 40 gyms and 150 car washes. Shaquille O'Neal won four NBA championships (Image: Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE via Getty Images ) ‌ No inheritance Despite his vast wealth, O'Neal doesn't plan to pass on his millions to his six children. At least, not without his family showing some initiative of their own. 'My kids are older now. They're kinda upset with me,' O'Neal said on the Earn Your Leisure podcast. 'Not really upset, but they don't understand. I tell them all the time. We ain't rich. I'm rich.' Explained his reasoning, he said: 'You gotta have bachelor's or master's [degrees], and then if you want me to invest in one of your companies, you're going to have to present it, boom boom boom, bring it to me. I'll let you know, I'm not giving you nothing. ‌ 'There's one rule: education. I don't care if you play basketball. I don't care about none of that. 'Listen, I got six kids. I would like a doctor, somebody to own a hedge fund, a pharmacist, a lawyer, someone that owns multiple businesses, someone to take over my business. But I tell them I'm not going to hand it to you. You gotta earn.' Shaquille O'Neal has previously spoken about his family not inheriting his wealth (Image:) ‌ Splashing $1.3m in a day O'Neal is eager to teach his kids the value of money, perhaps learning from his past mistakes. The NBA icon proved he could hold a grudge during his time as Kobe Bryant's team-mate at the LA Lakers. However, his willingness to prove a point once proved costly when he entered a car dealership. Arguably one of the most recognisable US sports stars, 'Shaq' has an enviable car collection and felt affronted when a salesperson asked if he could afford a Rolls-Royce. This led to him buying three cars on the same day for £1m ($1.3m), with car customisers West Coast Customs later installing a Superman logo on the grill of his Rolls-Royce Cullinan. "I don't wanna spend $400,000 for a car. So I'm like, 'Hey man how much is this? Nah. How much is this one?'' O'Neal recalled on the REVOLT podcast, as per the Daily Star. 'So finally the old guy says, 'Yo man, you asking about all these cars, can you afford them?' ‌ "Now I'm p*****. I said, 'What the f*** you just said to me?' So I buy three. That one, that one, and that one, and I want them dropped off. Move the seat back. So I got 3 Rolls-Royces that I never drive. So there goes another million." Content cannot be displayed without consent Walmart record In 2008, after signing for the Phoenix Suns, O'Neal was not up for wasting time waiting for his new home to be ready. Instead, he headed out to a 24/7 Walmart and spent $70k in one shopping trip, leading to concerned calls from his bank. ‌ "I have the biggest purchase in Walmart history,' Shaq said on The Late Late Show in 2018. "$70,000. I get traded from Miami to Phoenix, and I'm the type of guy [that] I have no patience. So when I get to Phoenix, they have an apartment for me. Nothing's in it. "Two or three in the morning, I gotta go get four or five TVs, I gotta go get printers, I gotta go get laptops. I gotta go get sheets, towels, underwear, t-shirts.' However, O'Neal got a shock when he reached the checkouts, as his credit card was declined, with his bank suspecting his card had been stolen.'I put it back in, and it said declined again. So now I'm saying, 'Well, I know I'm not broke.' Article continues below "So I just said 'alright, I'll be back' and then the American Express security called me [and he said] 'hey man, somebody stole your credit card and they spent $70,000 at Walmart'. "I said 'no that was me', [the security guard replied] 'what the hell are you buying for $70,000?'"

Piers Morgan's wife has 'brutal one word dig' after Meghan Markle shares video

More info Piers Morgan's wife, Celia Walden, has launched a scathing criticism of Meghan Markle, calling her "desperate" following the release of an unseen video by the Duchess. Meghan Markle, 43, delighted supporters recently with the release of an intimate video where she and Prince Harry, 40, are seen celebrating in their Santa Barbara maternity ward as they anticipated the arrival of their daughter, Princess Lilibet. While the footage was met with enthusiasm by many for showcasing Meghan's playful side, not everyone was charmed, including Celia Walden. Walden, who is married to Piers Morgan, made an appearance on ITV's Lorraine where she joined Ranvir Singh and Reverend Richard Coles to dissect the controversial dance video and express her disapproval of the former Suits star's actions. The host questioned: "Is that what you think it is, rather than they're in that generation of oversharing is a thing everybody does anyway." Walden doubled down on her stance, saying: "That is true, but I do feel with her, very, very little is not premeditated, I have to say. I'm not sure how much he has to do with the decision-making. I could be being very unfair, perhaps he's fully in charge in that relationship.", reports the Mirror. (Image: Meghan/Instagram) (Image: ITV) Reverend Richard has commented on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's need to fund a "very lavish life" noting: "The opportunities for earning that kind of money you'd need to keep that show on the road, are few and the pressure then is on if you're going to feed the beast, what's the next tip that you throw." Reflecting on Meghan and Harry's choice to step down as senior working royals in January 2020 with the aim of achieving financial independence and more privacy, Celia remarked: "There's no judgement, but you can't have both." While some have criticised the Duchess, Ranvir Singh defended the video shared by Meghan, saying, "I kind of love it because I think it's really funny and warm. It's impressive, isn't it? She's a great dancer – not too sure about Harry." In celebration of little Lilibet's fourth birthday, the Duchess posted a video captioned: "Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates... so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work - there was only one thing left to do!". The clip showcases the Royal couple dancing to music in the maternity room at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, following lyrics like "Been pregnant for way too long," with Meghan twerking energetically alongside Harry sporting his classic 'dad moves'. Meghan proudly showcased her blossoming bump, dancing freely around the room with total abandon. One of the lyrics seemed a sly jab at her detractors, proclaiming: "I'm a baby momma, I can do what I want."

Has Eva Lasting been renewed for Season 4? Here's what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled? Eva Lasting is a Colombian teen show on Netflix. It has a slate of newcomers in the cast roster and presents a unique take on the teen romance genre. It comes alive in Colombia in the '70s and '80s, which was a socially and politically turbulent time for the country. If you've finished watching this one and are wondering whether it's been renewed or not, we have all the information you need. What is Eva Lasting about? Set in 1970s Colombia, the third season of Eva Lasting follows the evolving journey of Eva Samper, who continues her romantic entanglement with Camilo Granados, and the growing pains of their close-knit circle of high school friends. As Eva, Camilo, and their companions prepare to graduate and enter university life, new realities surface. Season 2 ended with lingering questions about Eva's sudden departure, her fractured friendship with Luisa, and Camilo's unresolved feelings, all of which explored across these final 10 episodes. We have extensive coverage on the site for Eva Lasting, including recaps and a full season 1 review. You can find those HERE! Has Eva Lasting been renewed for season 3? At the time of writing, Eva Lasting has not been renewed for season 4, nor will it be. The show was announced last year that it would be returning for a third and final season, with 10 episodes to conclude out the storyline. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made so the fact Netflix made a decision on this one so quickly seems to indicate that there's a dedicated but relatively small audience for this one. Eva Lasting has had a pretty good reaction from critics and audiences alike though, with many enjoying the story and the characters. The series has had plenty of potential and ultimately bows out with a conclusive set of episodes to say goodbye to our characters. What we know about season 4 so far: Barely anything is known about season 4 at this point as Netflix have cancelled the show and it's not going to return. The only format we can realistically see this one come back would be in either a spin-off, sequel or prequel, but the likelihood of that is very remote. For now though, we'll have to enjoy the three seasons we've been given and look out for the next teen dramas dropping on Netflix! How do you feel seeing Eva Lasting return for a fourth season? What did you think of the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
