Colchester pub to host 90s & 00s themed charity auction in support of man with cancer
A HUGE fundraising drive to help a Colchester man battling a rare stage 4 cancer has hit its halfway point.
Stuart 'Stu' Smith, 40, an accountant, was first diagnosed with melanoma in 2019 after discovering a lump in his neck.
Since then, he and his wife Lauren, from Stanway, have been through a devastating journey of surgeries, failed treatments, and relentless setbacks.
After exhausting all available options in the UK, Stu and his wife Lauren are trying to raise £167,000 for a potentially life-saving treatment in Israel.
Alongside the couple, countless supporters have been hosting events and activities in a community effort to reach the target - including viral campaign, #DoItForStu.
So far more than £85,000 of the target has been raised.

The evening begins at 7pm and will offer a '90s and '00s themed event, featuring a charity auction with a number of luxury prizes up for grabs.
Stu's close friends, Daniel Beacham and Ashlea Cuthbertson will host the event.
The pair said: "We are now at a crucial point in Stu's journey.

"We are halfway to reaching the fundraising goal, but time is not on his side and we need your help to push forward again.
"We would love for you to join us at this event - where every ticket, every bid, and every donation brings us closer to saving Stu's life.
"Your support means more than you can imagine - please be part of this journey, and let's make a difference together.
"Every moment counts, every contribution matters - let's show Stu he's not alone in this fight."

Campaigners at #DoItForStu are encouraging members of Colchester's community to host their own fundraising events, like bake sales, in support of Stu.

Manchester City fighting Barcelona over Arsenal midfielder after Kevin De Bruyne exit
Manchester City and Barcelona are in the race to sign highly-rated Arsenal academy midfielder Max Dowman this summer, as per a new report. Hugo Viana is taking over as Manchester City's director of football from Txiki Begiristain as the club eye four to five first-team signings after finishing third in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign and crashing out of the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage. Advertisement Pep Guardiola's side were also beaten in the FA Cup final and the Catalan has admitted the previous campaign was the most difficult year of his managerial career – ahead of what will be a crucial few months of restructuring the squad to go compete on all fronts next term. Manchester City have reached a total agreement to sign Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and remain in negotiations for Lyon's Rayan Cherki and Wolves' Rayan Ait-Nouri to get majority of their transfer business done before the FIFA Club World Cup. Etihad Stadium officials are keen on adding a right-back after telling Kyle Walker he has no future at the club as the Sheffield-born defender enters the final 12 months of his contract, with Manchester City looking to move on the former club captain six months on from him leaving for AC Milan on loan. Advertisement Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White has been reported to be of interest in the Manchester City boardroom but as the 2023 treble winners near the acquisitions of Cherki and Reijnders, it is now believed that Gibbs-White is more likely to stay put at Forest. Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno have been told to stay at Manchester City into the new season by Guardiola but the goalkeeper duo – both entering the final 12 months of their respective deals – are open to leaving and have attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and Germany respectively. Jack Grealish is set to be left out of Manchester City's Club World Cup squad to aid his search for a new club to bolster his chances of making Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with City's record signing struggling for fitness and game time in the last two seasons at the Etihad Stadium. As per Steve Kay reporting for Football Transfers, Manchester City are looking to bolster their academy ranks as they step up interest in Arsenal midfielder Max Dowman, who is also being monitored by Barcelona. Advertisement City and Barcelona have made preliminary enquiries for the 15-year-old, who is seen a guaranteed first-team star in the years to come at Hale End as Arsenal look to keep hold of their academy gem following a quick rise as one of England's brightest young talents. Manchester City view Dowman as a prospect who can trod the path taken by Phil Foden – from the academy into Pep Guardiola's first-team – but Arsenal are relaxed about the situation and remain confident of keeping hold of the England U-15 international. Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have come through the Hale End academy and are now popular members of Mikel Arteta's first-team in north London, with Dowman having three prime role models who have stayed patient and secured their chances at the club under Arteta.

Former Liverpool star's son signs for Arsenal in LANDMARK deal
Once you become a Liverpool player, you enter into a family former, current and future players. Some might not be looked at as fondly as some of the others because of decisions they made when leaving the club, but they all donned the Liverbird on their chest at some point. Advertisement As you would expect, Trent Alexander-Arnold's legacy now falls into the camp of Steve McManaman and Michael Owen rather than Steven Gerrard. Each player's situation dictates how the fans see them. In the case of Raheem Sterling, the fans are largely in agreement that he will be booed - he was a homegrown talent who had made his way into the first-team at 18 years old, but after three years he left in search of greater playing time. In the grand scheme of things, his reputation is middling. Sterling's son signs for Arsenal Well, regardless of how his relationship with the fans is, you might've expected his children to follow his pathway and join the Liverpool academy if they wanted to become professional footballers. Advertisement However, the Englishman has decided to take his kids elsewhere, with North London's Arsenal taking his fancy, which could suggest one of two things. Firstly, the relationship with the Reds might be pretty non-existent now, given he spent seven years at Manchester City, so his time on Merseyside somewhat pales into insignificance. But secondly, his loan spell from Chelsea to Arsenal has seemingly made a big impression on him, despite the move failing to work out for either party in footballing terms. Sterling didn't get the minutes he was after and he was unable to a difference to the Gunners' attacking threat, perhaps due to a mis-match between the team and the player or merely a sign of decline. Sterling didn't get the minutes he was after and he was unable to a difference to the Gunners' attacking threat, perhaps due to a mis-match between the team and the player or merely a sign of decline. Advertisement Put simply, however, the academy at Arsenal is what has taken his attention from his most recent endeavour. It was announced yesterday that his nine-year-old son Thiago will be joining the program.
