to "shoot her", Bengal CM
Mamata Banerjee
on Wednesday took aim at the party's Bengal minder Amit Malviya for saying that she should be held accountable under NSA "for inciting linguistic conflict".
Malviya's comment had come after the CM had criticised Delhi Police for its notice seeking translators for "Bangladeshi national language".
"There is one 'Malpua'. He says I should be arrested under the NSA for speaking in favour of Bengali language. If you have the courage, tell me, when will you arrest me and shoot me? Even CPM fired at me. If I could withstand their torture, then I will chase these people away like flies," the CM said at Jhargram after leading a 3-km-long 'Bhasha Andolan' march in Jhargram.
Without naming Malviya, the Bengal CM said: "I know of everyone's capabilities. Don't provoke me, else I will dig into history and reveal the names of those who sponsored CBI probes. Do your job properly, show respect and I will respect you."

Banerjee added: "If they remove names of genuine Bengalis (from the voter lists), I will travel to every corner of the world and expose you everywhere. I never speak about India in a foreign land.

But if this continues, I will not remain silent. If Bengal faces atrocities, I will tell the whole world how this (central) govt is torturing us."
Saying that BJP can't handle the governance of the country, the CM warned that TMC would hold protest marches across the state whenever BJP bigwigs arrive in Bengal. "The day before yesterday, they did a meeting and said they would surely implement SIR. They won't be able to do anything."
She went on to add: "They only want their people to benefit and deny others of their due."
Banerjee said it was important for voters to understand BJP's "game plan". "BJP has decided to remove names from the voter list to win elections. They are saying that names must be added afresh. This is a BJP conspiracy to bring NRC. They removed the names of 7 lakh Hindu Bengalis in Assam. Now they are sending notices to people in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar. In MP, a tribal woman whose home is in Malda was deported to Bangladesh.
Such atrocities by BJP... are you not ashamed," she asked, alleging that BJP was trying to bring in "party list" in the name of voter list.

Trinamool Lok Sabha Leader Abhishek Banerjee meets with Speaker Om Birla, seeks discussion on SIR
Synopsis After becoming Leader of Lok Sabha for AITC in Parliament, Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee has started coordination in the floor of Lok Sabha with Congress in Parliament even as Congress submitted an adjournment motion on disrespect to Bengal and Bengali language - joins the fight with AITC on this issue. ANI Abhishek Banerjee Kolkata: The newly appointed Trinamool Lok Sabha Leader Abhishek Banerjee today met Speaker Om Birla in New Delhi and sought discussion on Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Bridging the distances with the INDIA Bloc prevailing for long, Banerjee said that he will attend the INDIA Bloc's dinner tonight. 'I had a courtesy meeting with the Lok Sabha Speaker. I have told the Speaker that we want the House to function. We have sought a discussion on the SIR. Our MPs have been giving adjournment motions for the past 4-5 days. They have demanded discussions, but the Centre is not allowing it. We have told the Speaker that if required, discuss with the Centre and then allow us to debate on SIR,' Abhishek Banerjee said. 'If the Centre does not have something to hide or fear. Then why are they evading the topic? We want the House to function but the BJP does not want it. They don't have answers, and thus they are evading the issue,' he also stated that he will go for the INDIA bloc becoming Leader of Lok Sabha for AITC in Parliament, Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee has started coordination in the floor of Lok Sabha with Congress in Parliament even as Congress submitted an adjournment motion on disrespect to Bengal and Bengali language - joins the fight with AITC on this issue, people in the know said. After Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool National General Secretary said today that the Election Commission of India is doing work which is beyond its jurisdiction. 'The ECI's responsibility begins only when the Model Code of Conduct is in place. When MCC is in place, ECI can take over the State's civil and criminal/police administrative machinery in its own hands to ensure free, fair, and impartial elections. But the work they have started for the past 3–4 months, with elections still 10–11 months away, clearly shows they will not allow an elected government to function. It has been done to give favours and advantages to the BJP,' Abhishek Banerjee is being used to see that real voters are unable to They can inform state government, which has won with huge mandate.'ECI is an impartial & unbiased organization and it has to operate while remaining within the ambit of the Indian Constitution. Yesterday, I saw a residential certificate issued in the name of Donald Trump. You should ask the Chief Election Commissioner why Donald Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on India. Or maybe, when Mr. Trump comes to cast his vote for the Bihar elections, he will be in a suitable position to answer this question,' Banerjee pointed BJP, Banerjee said, 'The Bengal government, which has been voted to power by 12 crore people in 2021, is answerable only to the people and not to any political party or the Centre. We respect the judiciary, but since 2021, over 50 CBI investigations have been conducted through different benches of the Calcutta High Court.'

BJP accuses Rahul Gandhi of displaying ‘selective outrage' over ECI remarks
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday (August 7, 2025) accused Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of showing 'selective outrage', stating that his allegation about 'large-scale' electoral roll fraud was a sign of 'frustration and election rage'. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Mr. Gandhi had completely lost his 'composure in the agony of losing power'. 'The ideologically hollow Congress party is systematically attacking constitutional institutions. It cannot be ruled out that there is a larger conspiracy against India's democracy and Constitution behind this calculated deceit. After all, their family's history is also filled with the dark chapter of the 'Emergency',' he posted on X. Mr. Pradhan said by attacking the EC, Mr. Gandhi was insulting the discerning decision of the public, which was universally accepted in a democracy. 'Where was Rahul Gandhi when the EC invited every party to file complaints regarding the SIR [Special Intensive Revision] in Bihar? Neither Congress nor any party from the INDI Alliance approached the EC at that time,' he said. 'This double standard will no longer work — praising the EC when victorious and calling it biased when defeated! Rahul Gandhi needs to understand that his family's victory is not the definition of democracy. The people of Bihar are now ready to give a befitting reply to such opponents of democracy and the Constitution,' said the Union Minister. At a press conference, BJP MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Congress leader was displaying 'selective outrage' as he never made such accusations with respect to the States where his party won. 'When they got 99 seats in the Lok Sabha election, the Congress celebrated all over the country. They did not allege the EC was compromised,' he said. Mr. Patra said the BJP, which remained in the Opposition for long, never resorted to the kind of indecorous language used by Mr. Gandhi. 'He threatened that if the Opposition comes to power, the EC officials would face 'serious consequences',' he said, adding that the language showed his 'frustration' and 'election rage'. 'If you think that there were irregularities in the Maharashtra polls, you should have instructed your partymen to approach the court within the prescribed time period. You did not go to court, your proxy petitioned the Bombay High Court. The court dismissed the plea terming it a gross abuse of the process of law. Then, a Constitutional Bench of High Court found no evidence of fraud or illegal voting and emphasised that the petitioner had failed to demonstrate any personal legal injury or enforceable right...,' said Mr. Patra. Referring to the EC's letter to Mr. Gandhi asking him to submit through an affidavit the relevant papers supporting the charges made on Thursday, the BJP leader said the Congress's Karnataka unit had gone to the EC on August 3. 'On August 6, the EC asked them to come on August 8. However, Mr. Gandhi held the press conference a day earlier...,' said Mr. Patra. The BJP leader said after Mr. Gandhi raised objections related to the Maharashtra election for the first time in November 2024, the EC had invited him for a discussion. However, he did not meet them. Then, taking note of his news article published on the election, it again sought a meeting, but he did not go. Responding to Mr. Gandhi's 'My word is my oath' remarks, Mr. Patra said the Congress leader's words had 'no meaning'. 'That is the reason you have to give the details in an affidavit to the EC,' he said. Questioning Mr. Gandhi's charge that the BJP used the Pulwama terror attack to reverse 'anti-incumbency', the BJP leader asked if it was an attempt to insinuate that the attack was orchestrated by India. He said the manner in which the Congress leader raised doubts about Operation Sindoor, air strikes, and the surgical strike, and targeted constitutional institutions, the people would start accusing him of being a 'traitor'. Four-term BJP MP from Bangalore Central P. C. Mohan, through a post on X, added: 'Electoral rolls are prepared as per the RP Act, 1950, and the Rules, 1960. Draft rolls (SSR 2024) were shared with Congress in Nov 2024. Not a single appeal was filed after the final publication. Now, after losing Bangalore Central, they cry vote theft at a press conference.'

NSA Ajit Doval meets Putin in Moscow day after Trump slaps tariffs
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin during his visit to Moscow for bilateral talks focused on security, economic, and energy cooperation. NSA Ajit Doval meets Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.(Kremlin ) The meeting came a day after US President Donald Trump announced steep new tariffs on Indian imports in response to New Delhi's continued purchases of Russian crude oil. Trump, on Wednesday, signed an executive order imposing an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, effectively doubling the total tariff burden to 50 per cent. India has defended its energy trade with Russia, maintaining that its oil imports are 'driven by national interest and market dynamics.' In a video released by Russian state media outlet Sputnik News, Doval described India's relationship with Russia as 'very special,' underlining the depth of long-standing strategic ties between the two countries. 'We have got a very special relationship, long relationship and we highly value our strategic partnership. We have had high-level engagements and these have contributed very substantially,' Doval said. He also welcomed the announcement of an upcoming state visit by President Putin to India, saying summit meetings have historically marked key moments in bilateral ties. 'We are very excited and delighted to learn about the visit of His Excellency, the President of Russia, President Putin, to India. I think that the dates are almost finalized now. The more important thing is that the summit meetings have always been a watershed point,' Doval added. According to sources cited by news agency ANI, while Doval confirmed that plans for the Russian president's visit are underway, no specific dates were finalised during his engagements in Moscow. India and Russia continue to expand their defence cooperation. In 2018, India signed a $5.43 billion deal for five squadrons of the S-400 Triumf air defence missile system from Russia. So far, three squadrons have been delivered.
