Two teens arrested, motorcycles seized in Kuching road bully crackdown
KUCHING (Aug 12): The police have arrested two teenage boys for traffic violations during a crackdown on road bullies at Masja here on Sunday (Aug 10).
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation also saw three motorcycles impounded.
'During the operation, a total of 16 individuals and 16 motorcycles were inspected, with the police also issuing 17 summonses for various traffic violations during the operation.
'Two teenage boys aged between 16 and 19 were nabbed for offenses under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and three motorcycles were seized due to offenses under Section 60 of the same Act for illegal modifications,' he said in a statement this afternoon.
Alexson said such operations will be conducted regularly and advised motorists to drive safely and courteously, avoid involvement in road-bullying activities, and refrain from making illegal modifications to their vehicles.

The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction. The accused had also claimed trial to another charge of driving without a valid license. He was charged under Section 26(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to three months or both upon conviction. He had also filed a representation for the charge. On May 21, Johan had told the court of his client's intention to file a representation to have the charges against him reviewed.

Motorcyclist dies after crashing into fallen tree in Tanjung Sedili
KOTA TINGGI: A 26-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a fallen tree shortly after midnight on Wednesday (Aug 13). Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said police received a report about the incident, which occurred along Jalan Kampung Teluk/Pelepat, Tanjung Sedili here, at 12.10am. 'The accident was believed to have occurred when the male victim hit a fallen tree and fell from his motorcycle. 'The victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Tanjung Sedili health clinic,' he said in a statement. He said the victim's body has been sent to the forensic unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for investigation purposes. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 10 years, as well as a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000. Supt Yusof also advised the public to remain alert and obey traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.

Police seek witnesses for fatal Penang Bridge motorcycle accident
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police are urging witnesses to come forward following a fatal accident involving a motorcyclist on Penang Bridge. The incident occurred at Kilometer 4.8 of the bridge towards Perai earlier today. Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief ACP Helmi Aris confirmed the victim was a 65-year-old man. Initial investigations suggest the motorcyclist was travelling from George Town to Butterworth before the collision. The victim reportedly brushed against another vehicle before falling and being run over by a heavy vehicle. He suffered severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving causing death.
