Francesco Farioli appointed Porto head coach
The 36-year-old has joined the Portuguese club less than two months after leaving Ajax, whom he coached for one season.
The Italian, who guided Ajax to a second-place finish and missed out on the Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven on the final day of the campaign, was the first non-Dutch coach at the Amsterdam club since Danish manager Morten Olsen left in 1998.
Farioli replaces Martin Anselmi at Porto; the Argentinian won just 10 of his 21 matches in charge, overseeing a third-place finish in Portugal's Primeira Liga and a group stage exit at this summer's Club World Cup.

Porto endured a trophyless 2024-25 and have not won the Portuguese league title since 2022.
Farioli started his coaching career in Turkey and enjoyed a successful 2023-24 season in charge of French club Nice, where he helped guide the side to fifth in Ligue 1.
At Nice and Ajax, he primarily deployed a 4-3-3 formation, in which his side generally pressed high in a man-to-man system, with similarities to Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi's style of play.

Forgotten Chelsea star picks his next destination
One of the biggest challenges that Chelsea and Enzo Maresca will face this summer transfer window is to find a permanent solution for the future of Joao Felix. It has become clear that Felix is not a part of Maresca's plans, and Chelsea will be looking to move him on in the ongoing summer transfer window. Advertisement Perhaps the biggest indication of this so far was when Felix's old shirt number was handed to new signing Dario Essugo, potentially putting the final nail in the coffin for any return at Stamford Bridge. The attacker endured an underwhelming spell on loan at AC Milan for the second half of the season, seeing the Serie A side turn down the chance to sign him permanently this summer. Since it's almost certain that the Portuguese star will leave Stamford Bridge in the ongoing summer transfer window, it's only a case of where he decides to go next. And if a report in A Bola is to be believed, Felix has already chosen his next preferred destination. Advertisement 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Joao Felix chooses Benfica as his next club after Chelsea There have been talks that former club Benfica would be interested in signing him back; however, there are doubts over whether they could afford a deal to sign him permanently. However, this could be about to change if the player has any say. Felix told A Bola that he is 'inclined' to join the Portuguese side if the opportunity is there. He said: 'With Bruno Lage being the coach, who I know and who was important for my career, he adds to my decision, and I am very happy about returning to Benfica. And that is probably where I am most inclined.' Advertisement 'I feel that I need to be at home, and that is why Benfica is one of the ideas that I have in mind.' 'Benfica is my home. One day I will return. I don't know if it will be now or in a few years. If it is now, I will be happy.' 'Everyone knows that Benfica is the club of my heart. One day I will certainly return. I don't know if it will be now or in the future. I have a few ideas in my head. Either stay in England or return to Benfica.' Since Felix has named his next preferred destination, it provides some sort of clarity on his future. However, he may have to lower his wage demands significantly to enable a return to his boyhood club. Advertisement Chelsea news and related links

Gyokeres gives up salary sum to aid Arsenal transfer
Viktor Gyokeres has accepted to give up €2m from his salary in order to facilitate a transfer to Arsenal from Sporting CP. Sporting and Arsenal are locked in negotiations over the transfer of the forward, who has informed the Portuguese side of his desire to leave this summer. Gyokeres has agreed terms on a five-year contract with Arsenal and is pushing to complete the move as soon as possible. Advertisement Portuguese outlet Record have confirmed that Gyokeres has agreed to give up a €2m sum from his salary to help facilitate the deal. Arsenal are willing to pay a fee of around €70m (£60.4m) for Gyokeres, with Sporting demanding a sum of €80m (£69m). Gyokeres is hopeful his salary sacrifice can help speed along negotiations with the 27-year-old determined to move to the Premier League in time for pre-season. The Sweden international has emerged as Arsenal's top target to strengthen at centre-forward, despite talks with RB Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko. Gyokeres has scored prolifically since his move to Portugal from Coventry City, netting 97 times in 102 appearances for the club. His goals have helped Sporting to successive title triumphs, with Gyokeres leading the Primeira Liga for goals in consecutive campaigns. Advertisement Arsenal are hopeful of making Gyokeres their latest summer signing. The Gunners confirmed the arrival of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad on Sunday, a deal that followed the £5m signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Viktor Gyokeres 'makes final threat to Sporting' in desperate push for Arsenal move
Transfer wish: Viktor Gyokeres is determined to join Arsenal this summer (AFP via Getty Images) Viktor Gyokeres has made his latest attempt to force through a summer transfer to Arsenal. The 27-year-old scored 54 goals in all competitions for Sporting last season and a move away from Portuguese club this summer has felt inevitable. Advertisement Manchester United were believed to have interest on Gyokeres, who worked under Ruben Amorim at Sporting, but it is Arsenal who have moved into pole position to sign the Swedish striker. The Gunners are also keen on Benjamin Sesko, but recent reports suggest that wage demands have proved a problem with the RB Leipzig forward. Gyokeres has therefore emerged as a top target again and Portuguese outlet Record report that he has called Sporting president Frederico Varandas to demand he is sold. It is claimed that Gyokeres told Varandas has has given his all and should be allowed to leave for Arsenal, and urged the club to accept a fee of €60m plus €10m in add-ons. Advertisement Gyokeres is said to be desperate to join Arsenal and warned Varandas that he will never forgive Sporting if they delay and force the Gunners to look elsewhere for a new striker. He made it clear that he has no intention of returning to the club for the new season. It is not the first time this summer that the Sporting president has been dragged into this transfer saga. After reports emerged that Gyokeres and Sporting supposedly had an agreement that the club would allow him to leave for €60m plus €10m, Varandas hit out at the striker's agent and insisted there was no set fee. 'They should know me better by now,' Varandas said. Advertisement 'Threats, blackmail and insults do not work with me. And I can guarantee one thing: Viktor will not leave for €60m plus €10m. I never promised this. 'With this game that the agent is playing, the situation is only getting worse. To date, Sporting have not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres. Not today or last summer.'
