Francesco Farioli appointed Porto head coach
The 36-year-old has joined the Portuguese club less than two months after leaving Ajax, whom he coached for one season.
The Italian, who guided Ajax to a second-place finish and missed out on the Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven on the final day of the campaign, was the first non-Dutch coach at the Amsterdam club since Danish manager Morten Olsen left in 1998.
Farioli replaces Martin Anselmi at Porto; the Argentinian won just 10 of his 21 matches in charge, overseeing a third-place finish in Portugal's Primeira Liga and a group stage exit at this summer's Club World Cup.

Porto endured a trophyless 2024-25 and have not won the Portuguese league title since 2022.
Farioli started his coaching career in Turkey and enjoyed a successful 2023-24 season in charge of French club Nice, where he helped guide the side to fifth in Ligue 1.
At Nice and Ajax, he primarily deployed a 4-3-3 formation, in which his side generally pressed high in a man-to-man system, with similarities to Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi's style of play.

Gyokeres gives up salary sum to aid Arsenal transfer
Viktor Gyokeres has accepted to give up €2m from his salary in order to facilitate a transfer to Arsenal from Sporting CP. Sporting and Arsenal are locked in negotiations over the transfer of the forward, who has informed the Portuguese side of his desire to leave this summer. Gyokeres has agreed terms on a five-year contract with Arsenal and is pushing to complete the move as soon as possible. Arsenal are willing to pay a fee of around €70m (£60.4m) for Gyokeres, with Sporting demanding a sum of €80m (£69m). Gyokeres is hopeful his salary sacrifice can help speed along negotiations with the 27-year-old determined to move to the Premier League in time for pre-season. The Sweden international has emerged as Arsenal's top target to strengthen at centre-forward, despite talks with RB Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko. Viktor Gyokeres 'makes final threat to Sporting' in desperate push for Arsenal move

The 27-year-old scored 54 goals in all competitions for Sporting last season and a move away from Portuguese club this summer has felt inevitable. Advertisement Manchester United were believed to have interest on Gyokeres, who worked under Ruben Amorim at Sporting, but it is Arsenal who have moved into pole position to sign the Swedish striker. The Gunners are also keen on Benjamin Sesko, but recent reports suggest that wage demands have proved a problem with the RB Leipzig forward. Gyokeres has therefore emerged as a top target again and Portuguese outlet Record report that he has called Sporting president Frederico Varandas to demand he is sold. It is claimed that Gyokeres told Varandas has has given his all and should be allowed to leave for Arsenal, and urged the club to accept a fee of €60m plus €10m in add-ons.
