Bear Bachmeier is transferring to BYU football
The Cougars are adding a Bear to the fold.
Bear Bachmeier is transferring from Stanford to BYU, ESPN's Pete Thamel first reported Saturday morning.
The news came one day after Bachmeier shared on social media that he went on a visit to BYU's campus.
Bachmeier is the younger brother of former Boise State quarterback and Cougars opponent Hank Bachmeier.

Bear Bachmeier held a 4-star rating from 247 Sports as the No. 28 high school quarterback prospect in the country for the class of 2025. He enrolled early at Stanford and participated in spring ball with the program before entering the transfer portal in April.
'Bachmeier is an exciting dual-threat quarterback who can beat a defense with his arm or his legs,' wrote Greg Biggins of 247 Sports. 'At 6-2, 225 pounds, he's built like a tank and can take off and run for big yards and does a nice job escaping initial pressure and extending plays.
'He can also beat you from the pocket and is a very competent thrower. He has a strong arm, quick release and can throw form different arm angles. He's comfortable throwing rolling out to either direction, is a tough kid and a fierce competitor.'
Thamel reported that his brother Tiger Bachmeier, a wide receiver who played the past two seasons at Stanford but also entered the transfer portal this spring, was also visiting BYU.

He caught 46 passes for 476 yards and two touchdowns across two seasons for the Cardinal. He was also a 4-star prospect out of high school, ranking as the No. 30 recruit in California in 2023.
'There's an expectation the brothers want to play together,' Thamel said Friday.
As for Bear Bachmeier, he'll likely compete with McCae Hillstead and Treyson Bourguet to back up Jake Retzlaff in 2025 while working towards someday becoming the Cougars' starting QB.
'The ability to come in and win games and OC Aaron Roderick's scheme and the pedigree of quarterbacks they have produced in history and recently is enticing,' Bachmeier told Thamel.

Simi Fehoko staking a claim to a roster spot in Cardinals receivers room
Fehoko is a newcomer to the receiver room, but there are familiar faces for him. The Arizona Cardinals currently have 16 wide receivers or tight ends on the 91-player roster and three are from Stanford — wide receivers Michael Wilson and Simi Fehoko and tight end Elijah Higgins. That total is nearly 10 percent of the 31 Stanford players currently on NFL rosters or reserve lists. Wilson was selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2023 draft, while Higgins was a sixth-round pick in Miami, but was cut in the roster reduction to 53 and was claimed by the Cardinals. Fehoko was drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth round in 2021, was briefly on the Steelers practice squad in 2023 before being signed by the Chargers. He became an unrestricted free agent this past March and to say his signing by the Cardinals was under the radar would be a significant understatement. Now, Fehoko has a solid chance of being on the 53-man roster thanks to his versatility and ability on special teams after scoring the game's only touchdown in Saturday's loss to the Broncos. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Monday that Fehoko 'made some plays on teams.' Then, Marvin Harrison Jr. sent some accolades Fehoko's way Monday when he said, 'He's been great. I think he's made everybody, especially in the route running, come back to the ball. He does a great job with that. And I asked him, 'Where'd you get that from?' He's like, 'After my rookie year, kind of something I had to develop just for me to get the separation, make the play.' 'So, I think he's definitely elevated everybody's game from certain standpoints. I think he's done a great job with that. I mean, his ball skills are tremendous and the way he can come back to the football definitely has helped me and made sure that I can take that from his game.' For his part, Fehoko is glad to be reunited with Wilson and Higgins. Asked about Wilson's growth, Fehoko said, 'I mean he's a whole different player than when I was with him in college. So, it's awesome to see, not only how his game has developed and now how he's a true threat in the league. So, super cool to see. He dealt with so much in college with all the injuries and barely played. 'He and I were freshman roommates. We came in first day together and we were roomed together, and he's always had that hard-work mentality, and it's awesome to see it finally pay off here and finally get the recognition he deserves.' As for Higgins making the transition from college wide receiver to tight end, Fehoko said, 'We always made fun of him for being a little too big in the receiver room, but now it sort of makes sense and he's doing well as a tight end.' Bachmeier emerged from a three-way competition to replace Jake Retzlaff and the team announced he will be the starter Aug. 30 against Portland State in a quirky social media post on Tuesday. 'What's up Cougar Nation, this is QB1 Bear Bachmeier," Bachmeier said in an X video post of an AI bear wearing his No. 47 jersey while walking through the woods. "Excited to get this season going." BYU had an unexpected quarterback competition this fall after Retzlaff opted to transfer to Tulane rather than face a potential seven-game suspension from the school. Retzlaff had a sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed, but acknowledged having consensual sex in his defense, a violation of the school's honor code asking students to abstain from premarital sex. That left the Cougars with a competition between Bachmeier, McCae Hillstead and Treyson Bourguet. McCae previously played at Utah State and Bourguet at Western Michigan, but Bachmeier impressed head coach Kalani Sitake and his staff enough to beat out the two more experienced quarterbacks.
