Apple AirPods Pro 2 hit cheapest price in a year as Amazon cuts cost by 22%

Daily Record08-07-2025
Prime Day is underway and this is just one of the many tech deals on offer right now
Amazon's Prime Week is upon us, and Apple enthusiasts looking for a bargain are in luck as the AirPods Pro 2 are available at a reduced price - but you'll need to act fast. The Apple AirPods Pro 2 are top-tier noise-cancelling earbuds, ideal for busy commutes, travel, or simply drowning out background noise.
Indeed, these popular Apple earbuds are currently priced at £179, marking the lowest price in the past year according to Amazon, offering a substantial 22 per cent discount.
These Pro 2s feature the new H2 chip which helps to create deeply immersive sound. The low-distortion, custom-built driver delivers crisp high notes and full, rich bass in stunning definition.
Voice Isolation enhances phone call quality in noisy conditions, and they also reduce more background noise to protect your hearing, reports the Mirror.
Following a free update introduced in February this year, they can even be used to check your hearing. The Hearing Aid feature includes a clinically validated hearing test and a hearing profile that applies to all the music and podcasts you listen to.
However, there are plenty of alternatives on the market to choose from, both discounted in Amazon's biggest sale of the year and elsewhere. For a cheaper option, the JBL Tune Beam Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Earbuds in black are available for £49.99 and offer noise-cancelling at a much lower price, as well as 12 hours of battery life.

In the meantime, on Amazon, the Soundcore by Anker P20i wireless earbuds have seen a significant price drop of 47 percent, now available for £15.98. This budget-friendly model boasts an impressive average rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 from over 65,000 reviews.
However, for those set on snagging an Apple deal, the AirPods 4 are currently priced at £113 on Amazon. Although they lack noise-cancellation, they are Apple's more affordable and recently updated earbuds.
Tech editor Dave Snelling stated: "AirPods Pro 2 arrive with superior noise-cancellation, better sound quality, longer battery life, and a new way to find them when they (inevitably) disappear down the side of your sofa.
"Apple has also added the ability to control volume from the stem of each AirPod, which saves you the hassle of reaching for your iPhone when you want to pump the bass.
"Elsewhere, AirPods Pro 2 – also known as "2nd Generation" – can be recharged using an Apple Watch charger (as well as Lightning cable, and standard Qi wireless charging) and can be used with a lanyard loop to attach to your belongings.
"We've been wearing the new AirPods Pro 2 on our daily commute, and they sound very impressive. Sound is rich, plus the improved Active Noise-Cancellation (ANC) cuts out almost all annoying background noise, so you won't have to have your favourite album, audiobook or podcast cranked up to 11 to hear it on the train.
"We were already huge fans of the original AirPods Pro, and this latest refresh only makes things better."
Nevertheless, he pointed out that price remains a significant hindrance for potential buyers, noting that even with a 20% Prime Day discount bringing them down to £179, they are still quite the splurge.
He went on to add: "At £249, Apple's wireless 'buds are ludicrously expensive and it's a shame Apple still refuses to introduce some much-needed colour – AirPods Pro are only available in plain white. Unlike some other wireless earbuds, there's no EQ in the settings so you won't be able to adjust the audio to suit your tastes."

Flash sale axes 'small and powerful' fan that's 'better than Dyson' to under £23

If you're on the lookout for a new fan that's praised for its power and low noise output, look no further than this 'better than Dyson' model that's now on sale Whilst summer might be drawing to a close, scorching temperatures are still gripping Britain with some areas seeing the mercury soar above 30C this past week - and there's more sweltering heat on the way. Perfect timing then for Amazon to slash the price of a top-rated cooling device by 29%. The Honeywell Turboforce Power Fan, normally priced at £32.49, has been reduced to £22.99. The gadget, which boasts a stellar 4.5-star rating, has been hailed as "superior" to Dyson and "powerful" despite its compact design, reports the Express. Manchester Evening News journalist Bethan Shufflebotham put the fan through its paces. She revealed: "Despite its compact size of no more than 30cm in height or width, this Honeywell fan packs a punch. I've never felt the need to try a Dyson fan, as this device does an excellent job of keeping me cool during the summer months while working from home. It even outperforms the £20 tower fan I bought from Aldi in 2022." "The fan arrives fully assembled, making setup a breeze," Bethan noted. It features a three-metre cable and can tilt by 90 degrees. "Its sleek and minimalist design is far from an eyesore, and its lightweight nature allows for easy room-to-room movement," Bethan enthused. "Given its price, I'd recommend getting two - one for upstairs and one for downstairs." This fan boasts three speed settings and can be wall-mounted or used as a desk fan. Despite its power, Bethan was particularly impressed with its quiet operation. She noted: "The slowest speed is almost silent, making it perfect for work calls during the day, watching films or catching up on Love Island, and it doesn't disturb my sleep when used overnight. "The medium speed setting produces a gentle hum, delivering more of a breeze, but still, there's no need to reach for the volume button on the telly remote. The highest setting is noisier than the others, but no noisier than other fans we've tested over the years, and it's more than worth it for the performance." The fan has earned a top-notch customer satisfaction rating of five stars out of five on Amazon. One satisfied shopper said: "Extremely quiet, even on full power. Very strong breeze, a lot better than my Dyson hot and cold fan. Cannot fault this." Another added: " This fan is an absolute powerhouse. I have no clue as to how it can be so powerful for its size, but fair play to Honeywell. It's easily at least 10 times more powerful than the Dyson fan (a really bad purchase) we also have." However, one user was not impressed with the design of the settings switch, stating: "It's a decent enough fan in terms of airflow. The main problem is that the switch is in an awkward spot to turn on and off." The cooling device is available for next-day delivery, and Prime members won't face any delivery charges. But if you want to grab this fan at it's newly reduced rate, you'll want to act fast as there's now telling how long this sale will last. Meanwhile, if you'd rather shop the real deal, you can find the Dyson Cool CF1 desk fan for £249.99 at Dyson's own store, or check out this Igenix 12" Desk Fan which is selling for £25 at Dunelm.

Apple is offering free AirPods for students with this limited time deal

If you're one of the thousands of young people to have received a place at university last week, you're likely embarking on the last-minute scramble to sort your accommodation, travel and equipment for the year ahead. Perhaps you're a returning student, and you've been working a summer job to upgrade a lousy laptop that decided to crash five minutes before your assignment is due. No matter what your reason is for wanting to upgrade your back-to-school tech, I've spied an incredible laptop deal. University students, parents and anyone working in education can get a free pair of AirPods 4 with the purchase of an iPad, MacBook or iMac. Of course, a brand new iPad, MacBook or Mac is a significant purchase, and as The Independent 's consumer writer, my main priority is to save you money. If you weren't planning on buying a brand new Mac, iPad, MacBook or iMac, it's not a financially responsible choice to drop hundreds of pounds just because Apple are throwing a pair of AirPods. Even with this deal, you'll be spending far more than you would if you bought a non-Apple tablet or laptop, and opted for a less expensive pair of our best wireless earbuds. If you're an Apple fan, you could also save hundreds by getting refurbished models from a reputable site like BackMarket. However, if you're set on a new iPad, Mac or MacBook, now's a good time to go for it. While third parties often beat Apple on price, through its Education Store, you can currently get up to 11 per cent off, plus a free pair of AirPods 4 to listen to your study playlist. Running until Tuesday 21 October, this deal is only available for a limited time. Here's what you need to know. Who can buy the student AirPods deal? We're calling it a student deal, but really, it's available to more people than that. Here's who can get it: New and returning university students Parents of new and returning university students Teachers and other employees of any educational institution, which includes not just universities but also schools and colleges You'll need to go to the Education Store and sign up using Unidays. Parents will need to get their child to verify through Unidays before completing a purchase. Education workers can create a Unidays staff account. Upgrade to the AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation As part of this deal, you can choose to upgrade to the AirPods Pro 2, usually sold for £229, for an additional £50. For example, if you get a MacBook Air on the Education Store for £899, and you choose the AirPods Pro, you'll pay £949. Similarly, if minimising background noise is important to you, there's an option to upgrade to the AirPods 4, usually sold for £129, with active noise cancellation. This will cost an extra £50, unless you're getting an iMac in which case no extra charge will be added. Other accessories included in this deal AirPods aren't the only accessories included in this deal. If you wanted to, you could get an Apple keyboard, mouse, trackpad or Apple pencil pro as part of some of the bundle offers. You'll be asked which accessory you want to choose before you check out – just make sure you check the total at the end so you don't end up paying an extra fee by accident. Get a free pair of AirPods 4 with these Apple deals We've listed the products you can get a free pair of AirPods with below. Each model has different options available for storage, size and colour, but we've listed the lowest price you can get each one from under the deal. You can get an iPad Air, with a pair of AirPods 4 included, on Apple's Education store. This isn't the cheapest price we've seen for this model, as you can nab it for £417.89 on On Buy, but with the AirPods 4 included, Apple comes out on top here. The iPad Pro, which tech critic David Phelan called 'monsterously powerful and impossibly thin', is 11 per cent off on Apple's education store. Again, this price is beaten by On Buy, which is selling it for £747, but you won't get the AirPods 4 included. This tech icon is on sale for 11 per cent off on Apple's Education Store with AirPods 4 thrown in. Not bothered about the AirPods? You can get it without from Amazon for £849. You can save £100 on the latest MacBook Pro, and get a pair of AirPods thrown in when you buy it via Apple's Education store. At the time of writing, this is the lowest price for a new MacBook Pro from a reputable retailer. Though a £50 discount might not seem like much for a product this costly, this is the best price we've seen for an iMac at the moment – and that's without factoring in the AirPods 4, which you'll get bundled in.

Google's Pixel 10 phones raises the ante on artificial intelligence

Google on Wednesday unveiled a new line-up of Pixel smartphones injected with another dose of artificial intelligence that's designed to do everything from fetch vital information stored on the devices to help improve photos as they're being taken. The AI expansion on the four Pixel 10 models amplifies Google's efforts to broaden the use of a technology that is already starting to reshape society. At the same time, Google is taking a swipe at Apple 's Achilles' heel on the iPhone. Apple so far has only been able to introduce a few basic AI features on the iPhone while failing to deliver on last year's promise to deliver a more conversational and versatile version of its often-blundering virtual assistant Siri. Without mentioning the iPhone by name, Google has already been mocking Apple's missteps in online ads promoting the four new Pixel models as smartphones loaded with AI technology that consumers won't have to wait for more than a year to arrive. Google, in contrast, has been steadily increasing the amount of AI that it began to implant on its Pixels since 2023, with this year's models taking it to another level. Taking advantage of a more advanced processor, Google is introducing a new AI feature on the Pixel 10 phones called 'Magic Cue' that's designed to serve as a digital mind reader that automatically fetches information stored on the devices and displays the data at the time it's needed. For instance, if a Pixel 10 user is calling up an airline, Magic Cue is supposed to instantaneously recognize the phone number and display the flight information if it's in Gmail or a Google Calendar. The Pixel 10 phones will also come with a preview feature of a new AI tool called 'Camera Coach' that will automatically suggest the best framing and lighting angle as the lens is being aimed at a subject. Camera Coach will also recommend the best lens mode to use for an optimal picture. The premium models — Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL — will also include a 'Super Res' option that deploys a grab bag of software and AI tricks to zoom up to 100 times the resolution to capture the details of objects located miles away from the camera. The AI wizardry could happen without users even realizing it's happening, making it even more difficult to know whether an image captured in a photo reflects how things really looked at the time a picture was taken or was modified by technology. Google is also offering a free one-year subscription to its AI Pro plan to anyone who buys the more expensive Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro XL models in hopes of hooking more people on the Gemini toolkit it has assembled to compete against OpenAI's ChatGPT. The prices on all four Pixel 10 models will remain unchanged from last year's Pixel 9 generation, with the basic starting at $800 and the Pro selling for $1,000, the Pro XL at $1,200 and a foldable version at $1,800. All the Pixel 10s expect the foldable model will be in stores on August 28. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be available starting October 9. Although the Pixel smartphone remains a Lilliputian next to the Gulliverian stature of the iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy models, Google's ongoing advances in AI while holding the line on its marquee devices raise the competitive stakes. 'In the age of AI, it is a true laboratory of innovation,' Forrester Research analyst Thomas Husson said of the Pixel. Apple, in particular, will be facing more pressure than usual when it introduces the next-generation iPhone next month. Although the company has already said the smarter Siri won't be ready until next year at the earliest, Apple will still be expected to show some progress in AI to demonstrate the iPhone is adapting to technology's AI evolution rather than tilting toward gradual obsolescence. Clinging to a once-successful formula eventually sank the BlackBerry and its physical keyboard when the iPhone and its touch screen came along nearly 20 years ago. Apple's pricing of the next iPhone will also be under the spotlight, given that the devices are made in China and India — two of the prime targets in President Donald Trump 's trade war. But Apple appeared to gain a reprieve from Trump's most onerous threats earlier this month by adding another $100 billion on top of an earlier $500 billion investment pledge to the U.S. The tariff relief may enable Apple to minimize or even avoid price increases for the iPhone, just as Google has done with the Pixel 10 models.
