Son of Chelsea and Arsenal legend signs for rival Premier League club

Metro4 days ago
The son of former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has signed his first professional contract – with a rival Premier League club in London.
Widely-considered one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history, Cech spent over a decade at Stamford Bridge lifting countless trophies.
The Czech Republic legend won four Premier League titles, the Champions League, four FA Cups, the Europa League and three League Cups with the Blues.
He would move across the capital in 2015 and though the keeper was past his peak, he still helped Arsenal win another FA Cup before hanging up his boots and gloves in 2019.
In all, he kept 202 clean sheets in 443 appearances in England's top-flight, a record that is not likely to be beaten for many years.

Cech, 43, has since traded the football pitch for the ice rink, currently playing as a goaltender for National Ice Hockey League side Oxford City Stars.
He also served on Chelsea's board as a technical and performance advisor but was dismissed following Todd Boehly's takeover of the club in 2022.
Now, the Cech name is set to return to English football after Petr's 16-year-old son Damian signed his first professional contract over the weekend.
But many fans will be surprised to learn that Damian has not joined Petr's beloved Chelsea, or even Arsenal, but instead capital rivals Fulham. More Trending
Celebrating the news on Instagram, Damian wrote: 'Forever grateful,' alongside pictures of him with his proud parents. https://www.instagram.com/p/DLxruHnsnmY/?hl=en&img_index=1
Following in his dad's footsteps, the teenager played for the youth team of ice hockey club Guildford Phoenix before deciding to focus on football.
The goalkeeper was previously in Chelsea's academy before moving across west-London to Craven Cottage last year.
The young Cech is tipped for big things having already made his debut for the Czech Republic Under-18s when he was just 15.

Enzo Maresca reveals who made the decision that Noni Madueke would leave Chelsea as the star closes in on £52m move to Premier League rivals Arsenal

Enzo Maresca has revealed who was behind the decision to allow Noni Madueke to leave Chelsea for Arsenal. The two London clubs have come to an agreement for the transfer of the 23-year-old England star, with a £52million deal close to being completed for the wide man. Personal terms over a five-year deal have already been agreed, as reported in this week's Chelsea Confidential on Mail Sport. It's a transfer that has raised a few eyebrows given the obvious potential of the player, while one of Arsenal's stars already occupied Madueke's best position on the right ring in Bukayo Saka. Still, Madueke has left the Blues camp at the Club World Cup to complete the move, with a formal announcement expected in the near future. Now, Blues boss Maresca has revealed who had the call for the player to move on - and it was Madueke himself. 'Noni is in contact with a new club,' Maresca said. 'I guess that he's going to leave in the next hours. 'I said in one of the last press conferences that at the end, if players want to leave, at the end, it's difficult for the club and for the manager. 'Noni decided to leave, nobody told Noni he had to leave. If he is happy, we are happy.' Maresca had previously admitted he was fine with Madueke departing if he didn't want to be at the club, almost pushing him out the door. The Italian said last weekend: 'Noni has been very important for us. But my message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us,' Maresca said. 'The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. Noni has been very good during the season'. Madueke has been a regular for Chelsea over the last season, including playing the entirety of their Conference League final which they won against Real Betis. He has also been used at this Club World Cup, though was a substitute rather than a starter in their semi-final win over Fluminense amid apparent concerns from Maresca that his focus was not entirely on his current side. Mail Sport reported on Tuesday that a winger has been targeted by Arsenal this summer, with Madueke high on their list. The Gunners have been looking to bolster their attacking options this transfer window, with a move to sign Victor Gyokeres close - though reportedly at risk of collapsing due to a silence in negotiations. They had also been on the hunt for a winger - it is understood their preference was a left-sided wide man, but one who can play on either side, like Madueke, was also an option. The Gunners then approached the player and there were no hurdles in terms of personal terms and the negotiations with Chelsea went smoothly too. While Madueke is set for the exit, Chelsea have an 18-year-old wonderkid in Estevao Willian arriving from Palmeiras this summer. He played on the right wing against his future employers and scored a spectacular goal in a sign of his potential. Madueke is left-footed and prefers to play on the right - a position occupied by Saka at Arsenal. But he is also capable of playing the left and has featured there recently for the Blues. Maresca left Madueke out of two matches in 2024-25 for internal reasons, one of those coming when he had performed poorly in training. He will likely compete with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli for a starting spot in the Arsenal team next season.

Man Utd not put off by £45m ace who 'slept in late and rarely gave 100 per cent'

Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on former Everton flop Moise Kean, who has reinvented himself back in Italy after his woeful spell in the Premier League Manchester United have honed in on former Everton striker Moise Kean in their hunt for a striker. The 25-year-old built up a reputation for sleeping in and being late during his last Premier League stint. Ruben Amorim's side are in need of bolstering a forward line that managed the fifth-worst goal output in the top flight last season, and with Viktor Gyokeres seemingly on his way to rivals Arsenal, sights have had to shift elsewhere. ‌ Ex- Juventus striker Kean, who began his career with the Old Lady before joining Marco Silva's Toffees in 2019 for roughly £30million and returning by way of several loan spells, is now a Fiorentina player and seems to have turned a corner. ‌ The Italian arrived in Florence last summer for just over £15m and proved to be a revelation, scoring 25 goals in all competitions, 19 of which came in Serie A. His current contract has a £45m release clause, and the Red Devils are supposedly interested, irrespective of the attitude Kean showed the last time he played for an English club. According to The Athletic, United are keen on activating striker Kean's £45m release clause, but only have until July 15 to decide on the matter, as that is when it expires. The club are seemingly not put off by Kean's past antics, as after his £30m Everton move in 2019, it was reported that the Italian would turn up late for team meetings after sleeping in, and produce sub-par training performances. ‌ Kean scored just four goals in 39 appearances for the Toffees and was also found to have breached lockdown rules in 2020 when he held a party at his Cheshire apartment. He was later fined two weeks' wages. Speaking last year about his time in the Premier League, Kean also made an admission about the English weather that could throw another wrench into a prospective United move. ‌ "I was in England, it was a new environment… They were so used to not seeing the sun, they were barbecuing on the beach in winter," he stated. "They were in short sleeves in winter. I said to myself: 'These people are out of their minds!' "But England made me learn a lot about myself. I matured a lot. When I got there I didn't play much. I used to think, 'How am I not getting into this team, at Everton?' "Mentally, it made me evolve. I wasn't playing and it was in dark times that I knew I had to grit my teeth. Then the chance to go to PSG (on loan) came along. I moved there and got everything out of myself that I could. I wasn't playing at Everton and I knew I had to give triple. That's how it went." ‌ Kean indicated that he has turned over a new leaf since his inexperienced years at Goodison Park, adding: "I was a bit unlucky. I went there expecting to play a bit more. I was 19. "I joined from Juve and thought I was going to smash it. Unfortunately, it didn't go like that. We went through three coaches that year and mentally… it was all new for me. Out of all the experiences I've had, you won't ever hear me say I had a bad one. I find positives in all of them." Molineux to get extra cabins for broadcast crew and match tech

Plans at Molineux Stadium for cabins to accommodate broadcast crew and match technology have been Wanderers submitted proposals for a cabin that would contain a small kitchen area and seating to provide "improved welfare facilities" for broadcast workers, adjacent to existing facilities. A second cabin would contain an operations and storage area for match technology, in line with Premier League requirements, the club's application for the facilities were granted on Wednesday as the council believed there would be no impact to the local area or highway safety. The new so-called welfare cabin would create space for up to 20 said the improved facilities were a requirement by the Premier League for the 2025/26 proposals said the layout had been designed to allow for "both the best use of the available area" while maintaining "easy and functional use of the car parking area [and] matchday outside broadcasting compound."To finish off the installation, the application continued, the cabins would be painted black to match the dark grey brickwork of where they would be placed."The proposal is in keeping with the existing surroundings within Molineux Stadium," the application stated.
