JAKARTA, INDONESIA - Media OutReach Newswire – 6 August 2025 – Guizhou, a province renowned not only for the majestic Huangguoshu Waterfall and the mystical Mount Fanjing, is now more accessible than ever thanks to China's 240-hour visa-free transit policy. This initiative offers greater convenience for international travelers seeking to explore the province's rich natural beauty, vibrant ethnic culture, and technological innovation.
To further promote this policy and Guizhou's tourism appeal, the '240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Promotion and Exchange Conference' was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on the afternoon of August 4. Hosted by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the event highlighted Guizhou's diverse attractions, from shimmering Miao silverwork and the soulful Grand Songs of the Dong people to breathtaking mountain landscapes and a booming big data industry.
Ms. Wang Lin, Director of the Department's Promotion and Exchange Division, gave a detailed briefing on the 240-hour visa-free transit policy, including its scope of application and compatible multi-destination travel products. She introduced Guizhou's rich tourism resources, including natural wonders, architectural marvels, ethnic heritage, summer retreats, and outdoor sports. 'This exchange aims to help more Indonesian tourism professionals understand Guizhou,' she said. 'The visa-free transit policy is a strong catalyst for encouraging Indonesian travelers to visit. As international travel becomes more convenient with enhanced flight connectivity and smoother mobile payment experiences, tourism cooperation between Guizhou and Indonesia will deepen.'

Ms. Wen Weiya, Director of the International Mountain Tourism Development Center of Guizhou, introduced the evolution of international mountain tourism, the structure and scale of the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA), and its development achievements. She emphasized that IMTA is committed to working with global tourism stakeholders in a spirit of equality, inclusivity, and collaboration to jointly build and share the outcomes of high-quality mountain tourism development. She warmly invited Indonesian businesses to join the alliance and participate in the upcoming International Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports Conference in Guizhou this November.
Mr. Wirawan Lesmana, Director of Ayo Wisata Tour, highlighted the policy's importance in encouraging Indonesian travelers to pursue outbound tourism. Indonesian agencies inquired in detail about the scope of the visa-free policy and suggested leveraging social media and short video platforms to boost Guizhou's visibility in the Indonesian market. They recommended creating customized travel packages tailored to Indonesian preferences to attract more tourists to Guizhou.
Looking ahead, Guizhou will continue to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia's tourism industry. By leveraging the 240-hour visa-free transit policy and working closely with airlines, Guizhou aims to launch more high-quality, multi-destination travel products. Malaysia's palm oil stocks rise to highest in nearly two years

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's palm oil stocks rose for a fifth consecutive month in July to their highest level in almost two years as production growth outpaced exports, data from the industry regulator showed on Monday. The rise in inventory in the world's second-biggest producer of the tropical oil could weigh on benchmark Malaysian futures, which were trading near their highest in nearly four months. Palm oil inventories at the end of July rose 4.02% over the month to 2.11 million metric tons, the highest since December 2023, data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) showed. Crude palm oil production was up 7.09% in July from June to 1.81 million tons, the highest since September last year, while palm oil exports increased by 3.82% to 1.31 million tons after a large fall in June, the MPOB said. A Reuters survey had forecast Malaysian inventory at 2.25 million tons, with output seen at 1.83 million tons and exports at 1.3 million tons. Malaysian July exports were capped by aggressive selling at a discount by rival Indonesia, which wanted to ship as much as possible before a higher export duty becomes effective in August, said Tajgir Rahman, general manager, trading and procurement at IFFCO. Exports from Malaysia will rise in August, as Indonesia's move to raise its export tax narrows the discounts that Indonesian shipments had been enjoying over Malaysian supplies, he said. Malaysia's palm oil exports in the first ten days of August rose 23.3% compared to the first ten days of July, cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services said on Sunday. The rise in palm oil stocks is not burdensome for the market, as production in August is underperforming, while exports are picking up, said Anilkumar Bagani, research head of Mumbai-based vegetable oil broker Sunvin Group. - Reuters

Asian FX steady ahead of US inflation data, China-US tariff deadline

HONG KONG: Emerging Asian currencies were mostly steady on Monday against a firmer dollar, as investors remained on the sidelines ahead of US July inflation data and a critical Washington-Beijing deadline to avoid higher tariffs. The Indonesian rupiah edged 0.2 per cent higher, while the Singapore dollar notched up 0.1 per cent. The Philippine peso slipped 0.3 per cent, with most other regional currencies trading steady. An MSCI index of global emerging market currencies remained largely flat, while the dollar index held steady following a 0.4 per cent decline last week. Investor focus is on US consumer prices, scheduled for Tuesday, which will offer cues on the Federal Reserve's path for rate cuts. A hotter-than-expected reading could trigger volatility by dampening expectations for near-term interest rate reductions. An upside surprise in inflation data would challenge market wagers on a September rate cut, with markets currently pricing in about a 90 per cent probability of easing that month and at least one more cut by year-end. US President Donald Trump's August 12 deadline for a US-China deal also loomed over markets, with chip policy at the center of the standoff. Expectations are growing for yet another extension. US imports from Southeast Asia's biggest economies now carry tariff rates of about 19 per cent, well below the levels initially threatened. Last week, the Trump administration slapped tariffs of 10 per cent to 50 per cent on dozens of countries, and tacked on 40 per cent duties for products found to be illegally rerouted to conceal their origin. "We expect emerging Asian currencies will benefit from US dollar softness in the second half of year. In particular, domestically driven economies with relatively higher yields on offer could be better positioned to gain from dollar weakness," said Lloyd Chan, FX strategist at MUFG. Regional stock markets advanced, with shares in Taiwan up 0.7 per cent. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, the world's largest chipmaker, rose 1.3 per cent. Equities in Indonesia and Malaysia climbed 0.5 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively, while shares in the Philippines dropped 1 per cent. Thailand's stock markets were closed for a public holiday. Investors are awaiting the Bank of Thailand's policy rate decision later this week, with analysts at Nomura expecting the central bank to leave its policy rate unchanged. "We expect the BoT to sound dovish, flagging the risks of an economic slowdown in H2 and still-high uncertainty around the tariffs, among other factors."

Ringgit Continues To Retreat Against Greenback On Profit-taking After Recent Gains

Ringgit Continues To Retreat Against Greenback On Profit-taking After Recent Gains KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The ringgit continued its retreat against the US dollar on profit-taking after recent gains to close lower on Friday. At 6 pm, the local note eased to 4.2420/2480 against the greenback from Thursday's close of 4.2340/2385. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said mixed signals from the US Federal Reserve (Fed) have also affected market sentiment, amid growing expectations for an interest rate cut. He noted that Fed officials remained divided on the timing and necessity for such a move. 'Some believe inflation could remain persistent, justifying the need to maintain a restrictive monetary policy. Others, however, feel that a rate cut should happen sooner to stabilise growth momentum,' he told Bernama. Mohd Afzanizam also pointed out that the upcoming release of the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for July, scheduled for next Tuesday, is likely to intensify the debate among Fed members over the direction of interest rates. 'The consensus estimates have pegged the inflation rate at 2.8 per cent, which is higher than 2.7 per cent in the prior month. As such, we will continue to see debate among Fed members on the direction of interest rates,' he said. At the close, the ringgit ended mostly higher against major currencies. It edged up against the yen to 2.8720/8763 from 2.8732/8765 at the close on Thursday, and improved against the euro to 4.9381/9451 from 4.9411/9463. However, it dropped versus the British pound to 5.7034/7114 from 5.6596/6656. The ringgit trended lower against regional peers. It dropped against the Singapore dollar to 3.3014/3064 from 3.2973/3013, declined against the Thai baht to 13.1173/1419 from 13.0954/1146, and was lower against the Indonesian rupiah at 260.3/260.8 from 259.9/260.3 previously. It slipped against the Philippine peso to 7.43/7.44 from 7.42/7.44. -- BERNAMA
