Mohamed Ramadan 1st Egyptian to perform at Coachella
The festival will be held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, where Ramadan will perform on the Gobi stage on two Sundays, 13 and 20 April.
The first time Ramadan announced his participation in the festival was in November 2024 via his Instagram account.
Then, he promoted his concerts and detailed his trip through many social media posts, especially on Instagram and TikTok, since 4 April.
US trip and successes
On 5 April, Ramadan also shared on Instagram a video and photos of him with his wife and children arriving at Los Angeles Airport, driving across the city, resting in a place surrounded by nature, and playing with his son.
Moreover, he posted tracks of songs he had released over the past few weeks.
Among these songs is Rolla Rolla, a multilingual track by Gaurang Doshi & Madhu Bhandari featuring Ramadan alongside French Montana, Rusha & Blizza, Jasmine S, and DJ Shadow. Ramadan released this song on 17 March.
He also shared his most recent track, 2aloo Eh, which was released on YouTube on 4 April. This song's lyrics highlight Ramadan's confidence and self-assurance as he addresses his fame and the admiration he receives from those around him.
"My last concert in US"
Recently, Ramadan posted another video regarding his US trip, which he later removed. However, other social media users caught the video and shared it on TikTok.
In the video, he hinted that this upcoming concert would be a precious opportunity for him and his Arab fans to make their strong voices heard by US and global audiences.
'This could be my last concert in the US. Perhaps I won't be able to enter the country after this concert,' he said without details.
Ramadan's words sparked controversy, especially as he deleted the video, leaving his fans trying to read between the lines.
Ramadan in Coachella
The 36-year-old actor initially gained fame as a cinema and television star.
In the past six years, Ramadan has pursued a singing career alongside acting.
Later, he gained much popularity as a rap-Mahraganat singer with multiple hits.
These include Baba, which got over 30 million views in the first few weeks of its release; Bum Bum, which got over 200 million views weeks after its release; Coronavirus; and Aladdin Lamp.
Coachella, founded in 1999, is one of the USA's most important music festivals.
The festival has grown substantially over the last decade, and in 2012, its organizers launched a second weekend to accommodate everyone who wanted to experience it.
Coachella now consists of two separate events held over two consecutive weekends. Each weekend's festival has the same lineup and is held in the same place but with different attendees.
This year's lineup features several renowned artists and DJs, including Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, Green Day, Zedd, Tyla, Dennis Cruz, Missy Elliott, and Benson Boone.

According to one major Egyptian event organiser, Diab works with five separate rate cards, adjusting fees according to event type, host profile, location, and personal relationships. Public concerts bring him $200,000–$500,000, while corporate-sponsored shows can reach $1m. Wedding performances in Egypt fetch around EGP 6m, doubling for overseas events. On rare occasions, Diab waives his fee entirely—covering only his band's costs—such as for the wedding of a prominent producer's daughter. This tiered pricing is common among A-list artists, who treat their performances as dynamic commodities rather than fixed offerings. Rates fluctuate depending on audience profile, season, and media exposure. Among female stars, Nancy Ajram and Najwa Karam lead the pack. Ajram commands about $120,000 per concert, rising to $200,000 for exclusive private events. Karam has kept her fee steady for years, resisting market pressure despite speculation. If Ajram's approach is driven by ticket sales, Myriam Fares follows a different path—her fee has remained fixed at $50,000 since 2017, partly due to health-related career pauses. For male performers, Tamer Hosny and Mohamed Hamaki earn $80,000–$100,000, reflecting steady but plateaued demand. Some names, like Saad Lamjarred, have yet to convert fame into premium rates, with his $50,000 ceiling often linked to controversies. Others, such as Majida El Roumi, Ragheb Alama, and George Wassouf, have kept their rates unchanged for over a decade, preferring stability to risk. Industry experts note that a single viral hit can boost a singer's fee by 20–30% within a year, while scandals, illness, or poor publicity can cause instant drops. Event timing, geographic market, audience demographics, live broadcasts, and even stage design can all influence the final figure. Some artists inflate their publicised rates to project prestige, while others accept lower fees in exchange for strategic exposure or entry into new markets. Ultimately, in 2025, a singer's fee is no longer just a payment—it's a tradable certificate of artistic capital. Some secure their value and hold; others gamble for rapid gains. And a few walk the tightrope between favour and profit, aware that in this market, opportunities are fleeting—and often, once lost, gone for good.

Winners announced for third Mexican literature translation contest in Egypt - City Lights - Life & Style
Aiming to deepen cultural ties and boost Spanish-language learning in Egypt, the Mexican embassy and Egypt's National Centre for Translation honoured winners of the third Mexican Literature Translation Contest in Cairo. The Embassy of Mexico in Egypt, in cooperation with the National Centre for Translation at the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, held the award ceremony for the third Mexican Literature Translation Contest into Arabic on 12 August. This annual initiative seeks to support local talent among translators and interpreters, showcase Mexican literature and the Spanish language, and foster cultural ties between the two nations. The ceremony was presided over by Leonora Rueda, Ambassador of Mexico, and Professor Karma Samy, Director of the National Centre for Translation. The selected work for translation was Canek, a celebrated novel by Emilio Abreu Gómez and a landmark of Mexican literature. The winning work will be published and presented at the Cairo International Book Fair in 2026. # The jury comprised Professors Nadia Gamal El-Din (Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University), Khaled Mohamed Abdel-Moneim (Faculty of Languages and Translation, Al-Azhar University), and Khaled Ibrahim Awad Salem (Higher Institute for Translation, Academy of Arts). Special recognition was given to three other top entries: the first honourable mention went to Noha El-Hag Hassan Abdo; the second to Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed; and the third to Roqaya Mohamed El-Tohami. Abdel-Rahman Essam Abdel-Gawad was named a promising young translator. Ambassador Rueda noted: 'The competition, which began in 2021, has now been institutionalised and has become an important platform for honouring the work of Spanish-language learners and Egyptian translators. I am very glad that the interest of Egyptian youth in learning Spanish, as one of the most widely spoken languages worldwide, and in translating Mexican literature, is on the rise.' The generous support of CEMEX Egypt made it possible to offer the main prize, reflecting the company's ongoing commitment to social responsibility and promoting young Egyptian talent and cultural exchange. This event not only celebrates the art of literary translation but also reaffirms the value of building cultural bridges through literature, fostering mutual understanding and appreciation between Mexico and Egypt.
