Motor racing-De Meo's exit changes nothing for Alpine F1 team, Briatore says

Hindustan Times15-06-2025
MONTREAL, - The departure from Renault of chief executive Luca de Meo changes nothing for the French carmaker's Alpine Formula One team, de facto principal Flavio Briatore told Reuters on Sunday.
Renault announced Luca De Meo was leaving shortly after the newspaper Le Figaro reported he will take over the leadership of the luxury group Kering.
Briatore, a title-winning boss of the Benetton and Renault F1 teams, returned to Formula One a year ago as executive adviser to De Meo and has been running the team since Oliver Oakes resigned as principal.
Briatare has denied being tasked to improve the team's performance prior to selling it. Alpine are currently last of the 10 teams.
"Nothing, absolutely nothing," Briatore said when asked after the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal what De Meo's departure changed for the team.
"Nothing changed for me. Not for me or the team. And congratulations to Luca, new job," he said.
Alpine will compete with Mercedes power units next season after Renault decided last September to end engine production at its Viry-Chatillon factory outside Paris.
The team, whose investors include Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds and NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, are currently alone in using Renault power units.
De Meo said last October that Renault were spending up to 250 million euros a year on engine production while buying in from another manufacturer would cost less than $20 million.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr Nearing €35m Deal For Bayern Munich Star: Reports

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr near signing Bayern's Kingsley Coman for €35m. Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr are closing in on a massive €35m deal to sign Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman, according to several reports. The team are looking to wrap up a deal for the latter as the beginning of the 2025-26 season approaches and it looks to rebuild a strong side. Journalist Florian Plettenburg has reported that Bayern are now open to selling Coman to Al Nassr this summer as negotiations have reached an advanced stage. Al Nassr have sought to strengthen their team this summer after the arrival of Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus as a replacement for Stefano Pioli. Ronaldo's team has already signed Joao Felix to bolster their attack, but remains active in the market. Coman is open to joining Al-Nassr after agreeing to a deal worth over €20 million per year, according to reports. Bayern have opted to part ways with Coman after their summer acquisition of Luis Diaz from Liverpool. Once the move is finalised, the former will join fellow French stars Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Moussa Diaby and multiple other top names in the Saudi Pro League. For Coman, the deal is a winner as he is reported to be getting paid double what he makes now. For Bayern, shedding his €17 million for each of the next two years was a major factor in deciding to make the move. Coman could soon be teammates with Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic and Ronaldo, though he went on record to say that he prefers Lionel Messi. Coman joined Bayern a decade back and has won nine Bundesliga titles, as well as scoring the winner in the 2020 Champions League final. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Photos had the group gathered for a little warmth and food inside a white gazebo by the lake, children included, and others. Another picture showed a vibe of casualness while four friends sat at the open rear of a camper van, soaking in a drink or five, and laughing, whereas there were others lying inside. The laid-back settings and cheerful company suggested that this was more than a sightseeing tour-pierce of friendship shared off the ice. Summer traveling and hockey annals Before Draisaitl's wedding, the Gagners already had the whole European summer to themselves. They found their way to Ibiza, Spain, where there were certainly more crossroads of hockey stars after Rachel's surprise meeting with Lauren McDavid, wife of Connor McDavid, at the Paris International Airport. Lauren was on her way to Italy, adding to the potentialities for the hockey-world meet-ups across Europe this summer. Lucas Chevalier Joins PSG As Donnarumma's Future Hangs In Balance With Man United Interest

Curated By : Siddarth Sriram Last Updated: August 10, 2025, 17:32 IST Lucas Chevalier is expected to have come in as a replacement for an uncertain Donnarumma (X) Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille, a move that could mark the beginning of the end for Gianluigi Donnarumma's time in Paris. The 23-year-old French goalkeeper joins the Ligue 1 and Champions League winners on a contract until 2030, with a reported transfer fee of around €40 million ($47 million). While PSG hail Chevalier as one of Europe's brightest talents, the signing also underlines the club's readiness to transition away from Donnarumma, who has just one year left on his contract. Donnarumma's Contract Standoff Donnarumma, who arrived from AC Milan in 2021 amid huge fanfare, is among PSG's highest earners at €850,000-a-month (£736,000). The Italian international had been open to extending his deal, but talks stalled over his request for a pay rise. PSG's new wage policy—lower base salaries with greater performance-based incentives—clashed with Donnarumma's demands, creating an impasse. The club are understood to be willing to part ways this summer, confident that they will still possess two top-class goalkeepers at the Parc des Princes. Calais-born Chevalier progressed through Lille's academy, enjoyed a loan spell at Valenciennes, and established himself as first-choice keeper in the 2022–23 season. His performances earned him the 2024–25 Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award from the UNFP. 'I am a kid living his dream. Ever since I was small, I wanted to play at the very highest level. I will wear this shirt with passion and ambition," Chevalier said. A Goalkeeping Domino Effect? Donnarumma's potential departure has already sparked transfer speculation. Manchester United, whose goalkeeping situation has been under scrutiny, have been linked—particularly amid concerns over Andre Onana's injury and form. Backup keeper Altay Bayindir also faces an uncertain future, raising the prospect of United entering the market for a top-tier keeper.
