MINSK, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- A photo exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War opened on Friday at the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War in Minsk.
More than 250 representatives from the Belarusian government and various sectors of society attended the opening ceremony and viewed the photos.
Titled "Remembering History, Forging the Future," the exhibition features some 70 precious historical and contemporary images.
These photos showcase the Chinese nation's tremendous contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, highlight the pivotal role of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the resistance against Japanese aggression, tell the story of the touching friendship between the Chinese and Soviet people who fought side by side, and demonstrate the fruitful outcomes of all-round practical cooperation between China and Belarus.
Fu Hua, president of Xinhua News Agency, said in a video speech that during the World Anti-Fascist War, all forces of justice worldwide, including China and the Soviet Union, stood united against their common foes and fought courageously. They forged a profound friendship with blood and sacrifice, making indelible historical contributions to safeguarding world peace and advancing the cause of human progress.
Eighty years on, China and Belarus are carrying forward their historical friendship, jointly upholding international fairness and justice, writing a new chapter in their all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, and promoting the steady and long-term development of bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, Fu added.
Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan said that the exhibition exposes the heinous crimes committed by Japanese invaders in China, records the history of the unyielding Chinese people's heroic resistance against Japanese aggression under the leadership of the CPC, and reflects the profound friendship between the Chinese and Soviet people who fought side by side.
"We should take history as a mirror, draw wisdom and strength from the profound lessons of the World War II and the great victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, firmly oppose all forms of hegemonism and power politics, and work together to build a better future for mankind," he noted.
Nikolai Snopkov, first deputy prime minister of Belarus, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, stating that Belarus and China paid a heavy price for the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.
At a time when the number of historical witnesses is dwindling, it is particularly important to hold such photo exhibits to honor history, tell historical truths, and oppose any distortion of history, whitewashing of criminals or desecration of heroes and martyrs, he said.
The exhibition, running through Sept. 5, is co-organized by the Chinese embassy in Belarus, Xinhua News Agency's branches in Minsk and China's Jiangsu Province, the China Image Group, in collaboration with the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, and supported by the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.

Pakistan-China ties model of political trust, enduring cooperation, says Pakistani expert

"CPEC has improved connectivity, eased our electricity shortages, and created a large number of jobs and educational opportunities," said Syed, the chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute. by Jiang Chao, Ahmed Raza ISLAMABAD, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The friendship between Pakistan and China is a model of political trust and enduring cooperation, said Mushahid Hussain Syed, former chairman of the Pakistani senate's defense committee, calling for joint efforts to build a closer Pakistan-China community with a shared future in the new era. Syed, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute (PCI), said in a recent exclusive interview with Xinhua that the two countries should seize the opportunities brought about by global political and economic changes to deepen their strategic partnership further. Reflecting on the 74 years of diplomatic ties, Syed said that from the friendship forged by the older generation of leaders, to the construction of the Karakoram Highway, also known as the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway, and the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the two sides have established an unbreakable all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. Launched in 2013, CPEC, a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, is a corridor linking Gwadar Port in Pakistan with Kashgar in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which highlights energy, transport, and industrial cooperation in the first phase, while in the new phase it expands to fields of agriculture and livelihood, among others. Before the launch of CPEC, Pakistan faced security challenges and a lack of foreign investment, the former senator noted. "China was the first to invest in Pakistan, showing firm confidence in our future and enhancing our position on the global investment map," he said. "CPEC has improved connectivity, eased our electricity shortages, and created a large number of jobs and educational opportunities," said the PCI chairman. He pointed out that CPEC has in recent years expanded into agriculture, information technology, green energy and other sectors, boosting development in less-developed areas of Pakistan. "In the Thar Coal Block-II Coal Electricity Integration project, local women can drive dumper trucks to transport coal," Syed said. "The Sukkur-Multan section of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway has created jobs for tens of thousands of locals, and improved cold chain facilities and road connectivity have benefited the fishing industry in Gwadar." According to him, CPEC is not just about steel and concrete. "It is a people-centered development project," he added. Syed suggested that the two countries deepen cooperation in industrial relocation, critical mineral development, information technology, agriculture, artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G. He also recommended that Pakistan should learn from China's experience in drip irrigation and multiple cropping. "Pakistan has an educated workforce, and China is a global leader in AI, robotics, cloud computing, and green energy," said the former senator. "The potential for cooperation is huge." Looking ahead, Syed said Pakistan should formulate strategies aligned with China's development priorities, particularly in electric vehicles, renewable energy, and addressing climate change. "We must combine technology with efforts to tackle climate challenges and promote green and sustainable development," he said. Speaking about the younger generation, the PCI chairman recalled his first visit to China more than 50 years ago as a student and as head of the Pakistan-China Youth Friendship Association. "That was the beginning of my bond with China," he said. "The China-Pakistan friendship is a unique relationship that has stood the test of time, built on solidarity and mutual trust," Syed said. "China's success story is worth learning from, and the youth of our two countries should work together to build a better future based on peace, development and prosperity."

Zaid chides PMX for 'appearing paralysed' when the Chinese come under siege by Akmal

THE latest wave of anti-Chinese sentiment from UMNO Youth over the flag and other manufactured outrages should have been the moment Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or PMX, stood firm and drew a line. Instead, he appears paralysed, as if forgetting that Chinese votes carried him into Putrajaya. One stark trait of our PM is his reluctance to step into national controversies. He cherry-picks his sound bites on safer ground or not at all. On this, he has been an utter disappointment. Equally baffling is the response of Chinese parties in government. They endure repeated insults and provocations from UMNO Youth with stoic silence, yet spring instantly into outrage at PAS' religious rhetoric. This selective sensitivity betrays a warped sense of priorities. If unity is truly the goal, then surely the poison of racial hostility deserves equal, if not greater, urgency. UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh is, clearly, a member of the untouchable elite; no different from the Sabah politicians or the celebrity preachers Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong. Fortunately, we have LFL's Zaid Malek as a lone voice of reason, filling the vacuum left by our PM's silence. On Thursday (Aug 14), a row of shops in Kepala Batas was forced to close early as Akmal led a 'flag inspection' rally targeting a hardware store where its owner, Feng Jin Zhen, was filmed holding the Malaysian flag upside down. Police cordoned off the area, while lawyers for Zaid attended to defend the owner from harassment. Akmal, dismissing Feng's explanation as accidental, branded the act 'traitorous' and urged supporters to join him in 'teaching' the shop owners how to hang the flag. Police are investigating under the Emblems and Names Act and related laws. Akmal gave his statement to police at the Dang Wangi IPD over last Thursday's Kepala Batas assembly. His lawyer said Akmal cooperated fully, answering about 80 questions. He is being investigated under the Sedition Act, the Penal Code (criminal intimidation), and the Communications and Multimedia Act. Afterward, Akmal addressed supporters outside the IPD, pledging full cooperation with the investigation. — Aug 16, 2025 Main photo credit: Malaysiakini
