Hong Kong singer and actress Gigi Leung Wing-kei, who is best known as a 1990s Cantopop sweetheart, has led a dynamic career over the past three decades.
Initially viewed as an innocent 'girl next door' following her appearance in Derek Yee Tung-sing's action drama Full Throttle (1995) and the release of her first two music albums, she has since established herself as a well-rounded performer on the silver screen and stage.
Born in 1976, Leung grew up in Hong Kong, where she attended the Maryknoll Convent School. As a teen, she was given the nickname of 'tall girl' because of her height, and even joined her school's basketball team.

The former girlfriend of a 26-year-old South Korean pop star has been given a one-year suspended sentence for threatening to release a sex video of them together in a bid to end his career. The Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced the woman to one year in prison, suspended for two years, for her threats to the K-pop singer, who is still active in the scene. She was sentenced under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (coercion using video recordings) and for property damage, according to legal platform LawTalk News on Wednesday. The woman was also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence counselling and barred from working at institutions involving children, teenagers and people with disabilities for four years. What is an ‘ita bag'? Plus the most popular toys, dolls and figures now
The 'Ita bag' hashtag went viral on Weibo – China's answer to X – in summer 2024 when Quan Hongchan, who won two golds in diving at the 2024 Paris Olympics, showed off gifts given to her by fans, from badges to cute toys, inside her transparent PVC bag. Advertisement An ita bag, which means 'painful bag' in Japanese, humorously denotes the great pain – and expense and effort – the wearer has put into lavishly decorating their bag. The bag is usually made of canvas or nylon with a clear see-through front. The trend stems from Japan's otaku subculture, which is defined by obsessive fans of interests such as video games, anime and manga. So invested were otaku in their interests that they would go through great lengths to seek out merchandise from their favourite titles or franchises and carry them inside a personalised bag. This manifestation of love and obsession soon caught on among trendsetters and the ita bag became an essential fashion accessory for people attending concerts and conventions. While keychains, badges and buttons remain popular choices for decorating an ita bag, there is now also an array of more elaborate items that can turn a PVC bag into a mobile shop window. Should you buy a Switch 2? Will the price go up? What to know about Nintendo's new console
The Nintendo Switch 2 console has officially been released. It is the follow-up to Nintendo's second bestselling gaming device ever, the 2017-released Switch, which, with sales topping 150 million, is behind only the Japanese gaming giant's handheld Nintendo DS. Thus, the Switch 2 carries expectations. Though it has a larger, higher-resolution 1080p screen and more processing power than its predecessor, it is not a wholesale reimagining. It looks similar, albeit just a tad larger, and again comes with detachable controllers, which Nintendo dubs 'Joy-Cons', only now they are magnetised. Switch owners will feel right at home with the new device. Play Yet a new video game console brings with it questions. What is worth playing? Is it easy to upgrade? And will it even be in stock?
