Rishabh Pant ruled out of ENG vs IND Test series; BCCI to call back IPL 2025 hero after two years as replacement: Report
The injury happened when a ball hit his right foot during a reverse sweep. Ishan Kishan will join the squad for the fifth Test, starting July 31 at The Oval, as per the publication.
The last time Ishan Kishan played a Test match for India was in July 2023. In IPL 2025, Ishan played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He scored a century in his debut for Hyderabad. Kishan, along with Shreyas Iyer, earlier lost their BCCI central contracts for not prioritising domestic cricket.
India are in the middle of an injury crisis before the fourth Test. All-rounder Nitesh Kumar Reddy is out with a knee injury. Bowlers Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are also unavailable.
With one player short, the team has asked doctors if Pant can bat after taking a pain killer. However, Pant needs help even to walk.
'The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a pain killer. He still needs support to walk though and chances of his batting looks very bleak,' a BCCI source told The Indian Express.

Shubman Gill sparks confusion over India's XI at toss; Karun Nair gets last chance, Kuldeep stranded, Bumrah rested
The change of venue brought no luck to Shubman Gill, as the India captain lost the toss for the fifth time in the series. England's stand-in captain, Ollie Pope, opted to bowl first under the gloomy London skies at The Oval. India made four changes to their playing XI for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series finale, aiming to level the contest 2-2. India made four changes for the 5th Test against England This marked the 15th consecutive toss India lost in men's international cricket, with their last win coming in January this year during a home T20I. It was also just the 14th instance in Test history where a team lost the toss in all five matches of a series—the only previous example in the 21st century being India's 2018 tour of England. Whether due to frustration over his own luck or the string of toss losses, Gill appeared confused when presenter and former India head coach Ravi Shastri asked about India's changes for the Oval Test. "We've got three changes," he said. "Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair, and Prasidh Krishna in for Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, and Jasprit Bumrah." However, the teamsheet revealed there was a fourth change. The 25-year-old forgot to mention that Akash Deep, who was rested for the fourth game after picking up a groin niggle in the Lord's Test earlier this month, was back in the XI in place of Anshul Kamboj, who had an underwhelming debut in Manchester. The Oval Test will be Jurel's first appearance in the format since featuring in the Perth opener against Australia last November in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, preceded by the home series against England in February 2024. He came in for Pant, who was ruled out of the finale with a fractured toe. Bumrah has been rested, having met the criteria of just three appearances on the tour, which was decided at the start of the series in consultation with the BCCI medical team, in order to manage his workload. Although Gill had hinted that Arshdeep Singh could likely make his debut in London, India opted for experience in the final game and handed Praisdh Krishna another opportunity. 'Karun Nair gets a fresh lease of life' After being dropped from the playing XI for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Nair returned to the XI as he replaced Shardul Thakur. India opted for more batting depth instead of having an extra bowler in Kuldeep Yadav. Returning to the Indian Test team after eight years, Nair scored only 133 runs in the first three matches, without a single fifty-plus score. Speaking on JioStar, former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar reckoned Nair has been given a third opportunity in his career. "When you have two all-rounders who had a fabulous game in the previous match, and here you're playing with a combination wherein you only have five winning options, then I think there is very little room to consider bringing in somebody like Kuldeep Yadav. So you can very well understand that. And having that batting depth, Karun Nair is getting a fresh lease of life. I might say that cricket is now giving him the third opportunity. We just sincerely hope that he makes the most of it," he said. Teams: India (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill(c), Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel(w), Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj England (Playing XI): Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope(c), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Smith(w), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue

IND vs ENG 5th Test: Why is Rishabh Pant not playing for India? Who will keep wickets?
Rishabh Pant is not playing the fifth Test against England at The Oval. (Getty Images) India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant is not part of the playing XI for the final Test against England after suffering a broken foot during the fourth Test at Manchester. Despite the injury from Chris Woakes' yorker, Pant courageously returned to score 54 runs. Taking his place in the India playing XI at The Oval is Dhruv Jurel. He had come in as the wicketkeeper when Pant had copped a blow to his index finger at Lord's and again at Old Trafford. This time, though, he will also hold responsibility with the bat. How and why Rishabh Pant's England tour could come to an abrupt end due to toe fracture Pant, meanwhile, had thanked supporters on Instagram and expressed his eagerness to return to cricket while beginning his rehabilitation process. On social media, Pant shared his recovery journey: "Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following routines and giving it my 100 per cent. Playing for the country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love." The dramatic incident occurred on day one when Pant was struck by a toe-crushing yorker in the 68th over. Blood was visible when he removed his boot, and the pain forced him to leave the field on a golf cart at 37 runs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Secret Lives of the Romanovs — the Last Rulers of Imperial Russia! In a remarkable display of determination, Pant hit his 90th Test six, equaling Virender Sehwag's record for India. He reached a gutsy half-century before Jofra Archer eventually dismissed him. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir highly praised Pant's courage, stating, "One thing I want to say is that the character and the foundation of this team will be built on something that Rishabh did for the team and for the country as well." Later, BCCI named Narayan Jagadeesan as Pant's replacement for the final Test. Pant, thereby, concludes his series with impressive 479 runs in four matches at an average of 68.42, including two centuries and three fifties. India raise concerns with ICC after receiving 30-overs-old replacement ball after 10 overs at Lord's Test: Report
The Indian team management feels that England were given 'preferential treatment' in ball selection and have officially raised the issue with the ICC match referee, according to The Indian Express. read more Indian team has lodged an appeal with ICC match referee against the ball-change protocol followed at the Lord's Test. Image: PTI The Indian cricket team has levelled a massive allegation against the umpires ongoing Test series in England, reportedly claiming that England were given 'preferential treatment' while changing balls during the matches. As per a report in the Indian Express, the Indian team management has complained about the ball-change protocol and the mistakes with the ICC match referee. Also Read | The biggest controversy related to the ball change took place during the Lord's Test when the second new ball handed to India was changed again after just 10 overs as players complained about it losing shape. Per the rules, the replacement ball has to be in similar condition, but the report states that Team India was given a 30 to 35-over-old ball as a replacement for a 10-over-old ball. During the ball change, the umpires informed the Indian team that no replacement ball was of a similar age to the original. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'At Lord's, after about 10 overs, the Dukes ball lost its shape, something that has been happening so often in the series,' an Indian team official told the Indian Express. 'The ball failed to pass through the rings that the umpires carry on the field to check if the ball is uniformly spherical. However, the umpires didn't have a ball that was 10 overs old, so the Indian team at a crucial moment of the match got a ball that was 30-35 overs old.' India raise ball change issue with ICC match referee The ball change, however, backfired as Jasprit Bumrah had taken three wickets in his first 14 deliveries with the original ball, but all Indian bowlers went completely silent after it was replaced. 'Check the scoreboard to see how the game changed after that. The bowlers lost their swing and England scored with ease,' the official added. As per the report, India even asked for the original ball to be returned, but it wasn't done as a result of some rules. 'When you ask for a ball change, you aren't told about the age of the replacement you will be getting. At Lord's, we weren't told that the replacement would be 30 to 35 overs old. If we were told, we would have continued with the deformed ball that was used for 10 overs. The ICC needs to intervene. This rule needs to be changed,' the official said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD As per ESPNcricinfo, the original second new ball produced 1.869 degrees of swing and 0.579 degrees of seam on average. But the replacement ball offered just 0.855 degrees of swing. Later, England went on to win the Lord's Test by 22 runs as they took a 2-1 lead in the series.
