Lilo & Stitch actor dies weeks after premiere as heartbroken family pay tribute

Daily Mirrora day ago

A star of Lilo & Stitch has died just weeks after the movie was released, his family has confirmed. Those closest to David Hekili Kenui Bell announced the actor died in an emotional statement.
David recently starred in the live-action remake of Disney's Lilo and Stitch, which premiered in cinemas last month. David's sister Jalene confirmed the tragedy on Facebook. She described her brother as a "sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant, and handsome" brother.
She revealed that although she didn't have a father figure growing up, "David gave me all the unconditional love I could possibly ask for and I believe that all his family and friends received the same from him."
Jalene recalled meeting David at her high school graduation after "asking for years" to meet him. "He was always so proud of me, his nieces, and his grandnephew, constantly engaged and always coming up with fun activities to get-together. We looked forward to going to Tatihi and the Lindsey reunion together to create more family connections."
According to Jalene's post, David's last outing with her was treating the family to the premiere of Lilo and Stitch in Kapolei. "He planned ahead and purchased the best seats in the house for us all to go together to opening night in Kapolei just two short weeks ago," the grieving sister wrote, reports the Mirror US.
"That's one trait we didn't share, planning ahead. We talked about and were so energised by the fans dressed in LandS gear head to toe, t-shirts, onesies, hats, masks, and the merch galore flying off the shelf as we stood in line for popcorn."
The proud Hawaiian also lent his voice to the P.A. system at Kona Airport and made appearances on popular shows like Magnum P. I. and Hawaii Five-0.
David's agent, Lashauna Downie, shared her shock with TMZ, stating: "I am learning like you through social media. This is heartbreaking and sad. He was one of my best talent and embodied the true meaning of aloha ... a gentle giant."
Fans flocked to X, previously known as Twitter, to express their sorrow. "rest easy, mahalo for the memories and the mana you gave this world," one user posted.
"Aw man, RIP to the Lilo and Stitch legend. Gone too soon," another chimed in. The cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.
Ahead of the movie's release fans praised the "perfect casting" of the live action remake. The film's logline teased at the time: "A live-action reimagining of Disney's 2002 animated classic, Lilo and Stitch is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family."
The original animated film, released in 2002, was a massive commercial hit, raking in $273.1 million on a budget of $80 million. Critics also praised the film for its unique storytelling, humour, charm, and originality.

Brooklyn and Nicola's £10.5m LA home purchase explained amid family feud

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's reasoning for buying a lavish £10.5million Hollywood home has been revealed amid the pair's huge recent fallout with the influencer's family Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz have s wooped to buy a lavish £10.5million home in Hollywood as the family feud rumbles on. The eldest of David and Victoria Beckham's kids has opted to splash on the pricey home after previously renting with Nicola as a temporary base away from his parents. The luxurious property boasts five bedrooms and six bathrooms and shows an indication Brooklyn sees his life stateside now. ‌ But while the purchase has been labelled as a "dagger to the heart" of his parents, it's denied the move has anything to do with the recent family fall out. Brooklyn has continuously snubbed his parents in recent months, including shunning his dad's 50th birthday celebrations. ‌ He also opted against sending a public message of support for the former footballer's knighthood last week. And while the rest of the Beckham clan sent gushing Father's Day messages on social media, Brooklyn appeared to once again shy away from any public adulation. Now, despite speculation due to the move, sources have moved to block any rumours the new home location had anything to do with the feud. Instead, a source told us: "This house has nothing to do with family dynamics. "Both Nicola and Brooklyn's careers are based in Los Angeles, and Brooklyn spent part of his childhood there while his father played for LA Galaxy. During that time, he attended school in LA for several years and built a life and friendships in the city. LA has always felt like home to him." On Tuesday, Brooklyn's brothers Romeo and Cruz both took to social media to share cryptic posts amid the family turmoil. It came as Victoria was among other family members reportedly left "disgusted" after Brooklyn's Father's Day and knighthood snub. Taking to Instagram, Romeo shared a post of himself with a pal, labelling it "family" with a crossed fingers emoji. He later shared a series throwback snaps of his mum Victoria and dad David looking very youthful. ‌ Some of the image showed a fresh-faced Victoria with a pram or one of their sons in tow. Meanwhile, Cruz shared a similarly cryptic post. He uploaded a screengrab of Carly Simon's hit You're So Vain, before going on to share a poster with the words: "If I would stick my pen in my heart/ Spill it all over the stage/ Would it satisfy you?" ‌ As the family continues its fallout, David is finally set to be honoured with a knighthood. David will be honoured at Buckingham Palace later this year, but the special day that he has dreamed of for so many years will be tinged with sadness as Brooklyn and his wife Nicola are not set to attend, according to reports. While David will be supported by his wife Victoria, 51, sons Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20, and daughter Harper, 13, Brooklyn is likely to skip his dad's biggest career milestone yet.

New details emerge in death of Lilo & Stitch's David Hekili Kenui Bell at 46

Authorities have ruled out foul play in the death of actor David Hekili Kenui Bell at age 46. On Tuesday, police in Hawaii confirmed to TMZ that the investigation is ongoing. Earlier this week news broke that the star, best known for appearing in Disney's Lilo & Stitch live-action remake, died on June 12 at 2:26 p.m. At this time, the cause of death has not been released, and the coroner's report and autopsy have yet to be completed. His death comes just weeks after he made his big screen debut in Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch film, which was released on May 23. In a statement obtained by Bell's rep confirmed his death as she described him as a an extraordinary talent and a deeply cherished member of our BLISS ʻOhana (family).' 'David brought light, kindness, and a beautiful spirit to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed by everyone whose lives he touched,' she wrote. 'We extend our deepest sympathies to his ʻohana during this incredibly difficult time and are honoring their privacy as they grieve.' She concluded her statement by writing: 'Rest in love, dear David. Your legacy and aloha spirit will live on in the hearts of all of us. A hui hou — until we meet again.' David's sister Jalene Kanani Bell revealed the loss with a 'heavy heart' in a statement posted to her Facebook account on Sunday. 'We have launched a coroner's inquest investigation (as is standard practice) and an autopsy is being scheduled to determine the exact cause of death,' a police spokesperson told the publication. 'The investigation is ongoing at this time. No foul play is suspected.' David's family confirmed the death with TMZ, while his rep Lashauna Downie told the outlet: 'I am learning like you through social media. This is heartbreaking & sad. He was one of my best talent & embodied the true meaning of aloha … a gentle giant.' 'It is with a heavy heart I share that my sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant and handsome little brother David H. K. Bell will spend today in the company of our Heavenly Father,' Jalene's post began. 'I've been waiting for the words and mindset to properly express the joy of a human, and Prince of a Man he was, but fate pushed my hand this morning by a pre-scheduled Father's Day newsletter honoring the men in our lives. 'I met my little brother at the age of 18, on my high school graduation day, it was the most amazing surprise which I had been asking for for years, that our mom's made happen for us, and that gift has lasted a lifetime. 'While I didn't grow up with a Father, David gave me all the unconditional love I could possibly ask for and I believe that all his family and friends received the same from him. 'He was always so proud of me, his nieces and his grandnephew, constantly engaged and always coming up with fun activities to get-together. We looked forward to going to Tatihi and the Lindsey reunion together to create more family connections. 'David loved being an actor, doing voiceovers, spending time with Brutus traveling as an ambassador for Kona Brew. The film industry and entertainment was so exciting to him and I loved that he enjoyed the arts. He went to Punahou and Kalani while our dad spoke Hawaiian so his ability to deliver lines with English understanding, Indigenous knowledge and Pidgen to da Max…made him a diamond in the rough. 'You can hear him over the PA system on arrival at Kona Airport where he loved working to create an awesome and safe customer experience. 'He was and will remain a bright and shining star. He recently made it on to the big screen with an iconic Lilo & Stich momment. He planned ahead and purchased the best seats in the house for us all to go together to opening night in Kapolei just two short weeks ago. That's one trait we didn't share, planning ahead:) We talked about and were so energized by the fans dressed in L&S gear head to toe, t-shirts, onezees, hats, mask, and the merch galore flying off the shelf as we stood in line for pop-corn. 'I said we should get shave ice after the movie and reenact the scene but then realized the store was already closed. To celebrate him and try to ease our grief we went to get shave ice and my grandson's emotion was on point. 'To Aunty Gerry and the Kenui 'Ohana you raised an amazing human who became the most loving and supportive man in my life and I am eternally grateful. 'I share this grief with our older sister Kehau Bell, and my younger sister, Lara Leimana, who while not a Bell, loved and adored him as her own. 'He enjoyed social media and I'll be resharing some of my favorite post he made, and some I am just seeing for the first time that I missed, because they are so funny and heartwarming. His sister paid a heartbreaking tribute to the actor 'Hug your loved ones today…our last time together after returning home from the movie was just sitting on my living room couch talking story about life, having a seltzer and doing a little genealogy. Blessed by this and all the big and small moments, I will keep our memories alive.' Maia Kealoha, who portrayed Lilo, and her mother, Brittney Kealoha, also paid tribute to her late costar on Instagram. 'Eh Uncle David, save some shave ice for me too k?! Maia is surely going to miss telling you that. Rest in love @hekili97,' they wrote in a joint post. 'In Hawai'i calling someone uncle, auntie, tutu (grandma) etc. when they are not blood related is a sign of respect. David was that to Maia, he was just like one of her uncles and treated her like his own ohana.' They concluded: 'David I'm so proud of you and happy for all that you accomplished in this life. You definitely made your mark around the world. A hui hou friend, love the Kealoha ohana.' Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, who is best known for her role as Nani Pelekai in Lilo & Stitch, called their former costar 'a beautiful, bright, and kind soul' in her tribute. 'Thank you for your love & endless support. It was a pleasure to work with you and to have crossed paths on Lilo & Stitch. I wish we had more time with you here,' she continued. 'I hope you're at peace smiling down and my heart is with your friends and family. In addition to his role on Lilo & Stitch, David has also made appearances in Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-O. According to his IMDb, he is set to appear in another film as well - The Wrecking Crew, which is currently in post-production. David's last Instagram post was on May 30. He shared an interview with the team behind Kona Brewing's campaign, which won the Pele Award for Best In Show for Advertising. David, an ambassador for the brand, raved in the caption: '2025 Pele Awards Overall Winner! #KonaBrewingHawaii #NMG #NellaMediaGroup.' The actor, who played 'Big Hawaiian Dude' in Lilo & Stitch, had been keeping fans up-to-date on the film on his social media. Last month he shared video of his audition, which saw him humorously failing to eat a fake snow cone. 'My audition had some special effects,' he captioned the post. 'I'm pretty sure that's what did it... Also some random stuff... #LiloAndStitch #Stitch #Disney.'

Brooklyn Beckham and wife's feud with Beckhams deepen as couple buys £10.5m home

Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz have reportedly purchased a lavish mansion in Los Angeles, potentially making the Beckham feud worse Brooklyn Beckham and his wife, Nicola Peltz, have reportedly splashed their cash on a £10.5million in Hollywood after previously renting their other home. The couple are currently embroiled in a reported feud with the rest of the Beckham clan and it's said the recent purchase could worsen their relations. The apparent feud seems to be ongoing as Brooklyn seemingly snubbed his dad David's huge achievement of earning a knighthood on the King's Birthday Honours List last weekend on his social media pages, as well as failing to publicly celebrate him on Father's Day. He was also nowhere to be seen for David's 50th birthday celebrations. ‌ READ MORE: 'Brilliant' air cooling fan that keeps homes cool during the heatwave slashed from £150 to £40 ‌ Brooklyn remained silent while his dad's dreams of a knighthood finally came true. Brooklyn's behaviour has reportedly rubbed his mum Victoria up the wrong way and she has been left 'furious' by his actions - or lack thereof. "The whole family is devastated by the current situation. The tension had been there for a while but no-one thought in a million years that it would turn this toxic," it was said. "Victoria can't fathom why Brooklyn hasn't been in touch to apologise. She's furious with him, but also heartbroken," an insider recently claimed to Heat Magazine. And now, things could get worse between the couple and his family after they purchased a new home in Los Angeles. Speaking about the five-bedroom, six-bathroom property, a source claimed to The Sun that Brooklyn feels like his life is now in America. ‌ 'As an influencer he can work from anywhere but Brooklyn believes he has more opportunities in LA. It will be a dagger to the heart for his parents," the source said. According to the insider, there were hopes his life in America wouldn't be "permanent", but "this house purchase quashes any last hopes." The Mirror have reached out to Brooklyn and Nicola's reps for comment. ‌ After David officially became a 'Sir', loving wife Victoria took to her social media page to pay tribute to her footballer husband with a sweet photo of her kissing him on the cheek. She wrote in the caption: "You've always been my knight in shining armour, but now it's official. Sir @davidbeckham!!! What an honour, I couldn't be prouder of you. "Your dedication to the things that matter most - your country, your work, your passion, and most of all, your family - has never wavered. The way you've touched so many lives over the years with kindness and humility speaks volumes about the man you are and continues to inspire us everyday. But above all else, I'm so, so proud to call you mine.I love you so much xxxx".
