Claude 4 just got a massively useful upgrade — and it puts ChatGPT and Gemini on notice
Anthropic isn't holding back. The creators of the Claude AI chatbot have released a string of big updates recently, most notably the 4th version of their software, and they are showing no signs of slowing down with the news of a voice mode and web search now being added to the list.
Voice mode is a feature that has been seen rolling out across all of the big AI systems. ChatGPT and Gemini have both been pushing the feature heavily in recent months, especially with Gemini's integration on Android devices.
This technology lets you have a more fluid conversation with a chatbot. Instead of having to type your prompts and messages, you can chat to it, discussing your requests back and forth.
For Claude, this will first be available in beta testing for all mobile users over the next couple of weeks. Voice mode will automatically use Claude Sonnet 4 as its model of choice and will only be available in English, at least for now.
However, Anthropic has reported that it will be available across all plans and apps on both Android and iOS.
It will also have five different voice options, all with somewhat bizarre names: Buttery, Airy, Mellow, Glassy, and Rounded.
During the voice chat, you can switch between modes, going back and forth between voice and text and, like its competitors, Claude will be able to discuss documents, images and complex information by voice. This allows you to upload files or take photos as you speak or even film your surroundings.
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
While this is available on all plans, those on Pro plans or anything higher will also get access to a feature called knowledge integration. This gives Claude access to your emails, calendars, documents, and web searches to give the voice assistant more to work with.
Along with the introduction of voice mode, Anthropic has also revealed that web search is now available on all plans. This was previously a paid for feature, giving Claude the ability to search the web to answer requests.
This gives access to breaking news, current market trends and any real-time data Claude can pull from the internet.
Like the voice mode, this is a feature becoming increasingly popular, already seen on Google Gemini, ChatGPT and some of Claude's other big competitors.
Just last week, Anthropic revealed Claude 4 — the latest version of its AI technology. This brought Claude back into the running, even putting it up against Gemini 2.5 Pro, an also recently released model that has been at the top of the leaderboards for testing.
This update brought new abilities for Claude to write and edit code, and allows Claude to think more carefully through prompts, similar to the deep research move we're seeing across the board in AI right now.
The release included two new models: Claude 4 Opus and Claude 4 Sonnet. When we put this latest version up against Gemini 2.5 Pro in testing, while it was close, Claude did secure the win.
However, while Claude seems to be on top right now, with the speed the AI world moves at the title could soon go to someone else.

Reddit now lets you hide content, like posts and comments, from your user profile
Reddit on Tuesday announced a new feature that will offer its users more privacy when it comes to what's shared on their user profiles. The company says it's rolling out an update that will introduce a 'Content and Activity' setting that allows users to decide which content from the subreddits they participate in will appear on their profiles. This includes both their posting and commenting history. By default, all posts and comments will remain visible, as before. However, the new setting allows users to hide all their public posts and comments, including those made directly on their profiles. Alternately, users can decide to selectively display posts and comments from specific communities on their profile, while keeping others hidden. The setting is available under a new 'Curate your profile' section, where users can control their content's visibility. An option to toggle on or off NSFW content and activity is also available, as is a Followers toggle to show or hide follower count. Image Credits:Reddit The update adds a layer of privacy to Reddit that wasn't previously available. Previously, many Reddit users created 'throwaway' accounts when they wanted to ask more personal questions. But as Reddit morphs into more of an ad-focused tech company post-IPO, it likely prefers that user data — like engagement and interests — remains associated with a single user profile for better ad targeting. Berkeley, CA | REGISTER NOW The feature's addition could also encourage users to participate more on the site, as they'll now know that they can somewhat obscure their activity from public view. For example, users may want to chime in or ask questions about a topic of a more sensitive nature, like relationship or dating advice, or a health issue they're facing. Before, they may have chosen to just read through others' posts but not engage directly in order to keep the information from displaying on their own user profiles. Image Credits:Reddit Reddit says that the option to hide or display posts and comments is available only on a per-community basis, not at the individual post or comment level. That makes the settings easier to manage, even if it means you can't pick and choose which specific comments and posts show up and which don't. Still, users should know that the curation option doesn't mean they have true privacy. Their username will still appear next to their posts and comments in the communities themselves. Plus, some moderators will still have access to a user's public post and comment history for 28 days, regardless of the user's content visibility settings, Reddit says. This access is helpful to moderators who may need to review a user's history when they post or comment, as well as when they send modmail, like join requests, or requests to join a restricted community. Profile owners will also be able to temporarily see a user's full post and comment history if another user comments directly on their profile post, the company notes. Image Credits:Reddit Alongside this change, Reddit introduced updated personal activity summaries, which provide an overview of a user's activity, including their Karma count, total contributions, account age, and active communities. The latter will be based on their Content and activity settings.

Verge readers can get a rare discount on the smartphone-sized Boox Palma 2 e-reader
Smartphones are convenient for reading on the go, but it's all too easy to get pulled into notifications or a quick glance at the news that spirals into full-on doomscrolling. That's what makes the Boox Palma 2 so appealing. It offers the portability of a phone in a far less distracting package, and until the end of the week, Verge readers can grab the e-reader with a free flip cover case, valued at $16, for $279.99 ($20 off) from Wellbots with code VERGEPALMA20. A minor upgrade over its predecessor, the Boox Palma 2 launched late last year while retaining everything we loved about the original. At 6.3 inches, the Android device is still as pocket-friendly as ever with an easy-to-read E Ink screen and impressive battery life. With Google Play Store built in, it maintains the flexibility that sets it apart from rivals. You can easily install popular reading apps like Amazon Kindle and Rakuten Kobo, giving you access to your entire digital library without having to sideload anything. You can also download apps for music, podcasts, note-taking, and even social media. Thankfully, though, the device runs apps like TikTok too slowly to be real distractions, while still being plenty fast for reading. The Boox Palma 2 also introduces a handful of new features missing from the first Palma. With Android 13 and an upgraded processor, it should last longer and receive a couple more years of security updates than the original's Android 11. It also features a fingerprint sensor built into the power button for convenience and a little extra peace of mind.

Prediction: Buying Nvidia Today Will Set You Up for Life
Nvidia has seen huge recent success thanks to artificial intelligence. The chipmaker should grow sales rapidly for decades to come. A patient, long-term approach would serve investors best. 10 stocks we like better than Nvidia › Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has already been one of the best long-term investments in history. Since 1999, shares of the chipmaker have increased in value by more than 340,000%. An original investment of just $3 would have turned into $1 million over that timeframe! But don't think the run is over. The next few decades should see the company grow its sales immensely, leading to big gains for patient investors. Here's why. Nvidia's business model sits at the very center of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution. Nearly all AI technologies require massive datasets and compute power to operate. Complex models crunch this data to provide relevant outputs for users. While some models can run locally, most popular models are run on the cloud, using distributed compute power that can scale up and down dynamically based on demand. What technologies make cloud computing infrastructure possible? Graphics processing units, more commonly referred to as GPUs. There is a wide variety of companies producing a wide variety of GPUs, each specialized for a different purpose. For a long time, Nvidia specialized in GPUs built for gaming environments. Next-gen gaming consoles and computers need vast amounts of graphics processing power. Specialized chips like Nvidia's allowed the industry to advance, creating better and more visually stunning games for users. Nvidia recognized the potential of AI before many of its competitors. It invested heavily to make sure its chips and software were able to support the small but promising industry. As The New York Times summarizes: Over more than 10 years, Nvidia has built a nearly impregnable lead in producing chips that can perform complex A.I. tasks like image, facial and speech recognition, as well as generating text for chatbots like ChatGPT. The onetime industry upstart achieved that dominance by recognizing the A.I. trend early, tailoring its chips to those tasks and then developing key pieces of software that aid in A.I. development. That software component is perhaps Nvidia's biggest secret weapon. Over the next decade, the AI market is predicted to grow from several hundred billion dollars in value to nearly $5 trillion. Competition for GPUs will surely heat up, but Nvidia's software has created a sort of lock-in for customers. Scores of AI applications have been built around Nvidia's hardware, and developers have been using its software for years to customize these chips to their exact specifications. Even if its hardware loses its performance edge, this software lock-in should give Nvidia heavy market share for decades to come, not to mention the reputation and capital necessary to continue improving its hardware or purchasing promising upstarts. Trading at 25 times sales, Nvidia stock is far from cheap. But in 2021, shares also traded at roughly 25 times sales, and yet shares have increased in value by nearly 800% since then. Now that it's a $3.3 trillion business, many argue that Nvidia will face steeper hurdles to fast growth. The law of large numbers may prove this true. After all, it's easier to double in size as a $200 billion company than as a $2 trillion one. But Nvidia has a stranglehold on its market, with some estimates pegging it with a 90% market share for AI GPUs. Meanwhile, the AI market is taking off, and Nvidia's software edge gives it a front-row seat to this growth over the long term. High-multiple stocks like this can display extreme volatility from year to year. But if you maintain an investing horizon of a decade or more, Nvidia shares can help you turn small amounts into millions of dollars through the magic of compound interest. Just remember: The AI revolution is a multi-decade story, and Nvidia's high upfront premium may take years to fully justify. But buying high-quality companies with durable competitive advantages operating in long-term growth markets is rarely a poor decision. Just make sure your investing horizon is long enough to fully digest Nvidia's pricey upfront valuation.
