Fire at Pantai Dalam KTM station damages 14 squatter homes

KUALA LUMPUR: Fourteen squatter homes and four shop lots were damaged in a fire near the Pantai Dalam KTM station late last night.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 11.11pm and deployed 36 firefighters from the Pantai, Hang Tuah, Seputeh, and Sri Hartamas fire stations to the scene. They arrived with three Fire Rescue Tender units, two water tankers, and an aerial ladder platform.
Pantai fire station chief Wan Mohd Shahrir Azizi Wan Said said the blaze destroyed about 80 per cent of the squatter settlement, which measured approximately 100 by 80 square feet.
"The fire also spread to four nearby shoplots, including Mydin Mart on the ground floor and Pasaraya Karnival above it," he said.
"The upper floor of Pasaraya Karnival was destroyed, while Mydin Mart sustained 20 per cent damage. Three other shops next to them suffered about 90 per cent damage each."
No casualties were reported and the fire was brought under control at 1.49am. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Operations commander Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohd Khairul Anuar said four fire stations responded, deploying 36 firefighters with multiple trucks and support vehicles. Fourteen squatter homes were affected, with 80 per cent of the area reduced to charred remains. The storage room and two cars completely destroyed by fire at the Dalat village chief's residence. DALAT (Aug 2): A fire broke out at the residence of the Dalat village chief this afternoon, destroying a storage unit and two cars. No injuries were reported. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the Dalat Volunteer Fire Brigade was first to arrive at the scene at 4.45pm to begin firefighting efforts. 'The fire involved a storage room and two vehicles that were completely destroyed. No casualties were reported,' said Operations Commander PBK II (TBK I) Dura Batta from the Mukah Bomba station. A team of 15 firefighters from the Mukah station arrived at 5.05pm, equipped with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, and a Hilux utility vehicle, to assist in putting out the fire. The blaze was successfully brought under control following the joint efforts of Mukah Bomba and the Dalat volunteer team.
