Body Of Missing Rohingya Girl Found In Drain In Ampang

Yesterday morning (20 May), her body was found some six kilometers from the point of the drain where she reportedly fell in, Malay Mail reported. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the body of the 10-year-old Rohingya victim, Nur Aida Nur Muhammad, was discovered in Sungai Kerayong, Taman Cheras Indah, at 11.20am. Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department's Water Rescue Team (PPDA) operations commander Mohamad Riduan Akhyar said the victim's body was stuck along the riverbank, and was handed over to the police for further action. Another child also fell into the drain but was rescued It was reported that an 11-year-old child also fell into the drain with Nur Aida. Fortunately, members of the public managed to save the child from being swept away by the strong currents. Both children were on their way home from school when the incident occurred. Nur Aida's father, Nur Muhammad Tufail Ahmad, expressed his deep sorrow over not being able to fulfil his daughter's wish for a family holiday. He mentioned that his eldest child (of four) frequently asked him to take the family on a holiday, but he couldn't oblige due to work commitments. 'A few days before the incident, she said she wanted to go out for a trip. I promised I would take her, but never got the chance. Now, I'm filled with regret,' he said remorsefuly. He added that he has come to terms with the loss, but deeply feels the absence of his daughter especially given her helpful nature and how often she helped her mother, who is currently in confinement after giving birth to their fourth child. Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the 10-year-old victim's body was discovered in Sungai Kerayong, Taman Cheras Indah, near here at 11.20am, about six kilometres from where she was reported to have fallen into a fast-flowing drain. "The body was taken to Ampang Hospital for a post-mortem," he said in a statement on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department's Water Rescue Team (PPDA) operations commander Mohamad Riduan Akhyar said the victim's body was found stuck along the riverbank and has been handed over to the police for further action. He said 11 members of the PPDA from the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, along with rescuers from the Cheras and Bandar Tun Razak Fire and Rescue Stations, resumed the search for the victim at around 9am on Tuesday. It was reported on Tueday that the victim, identified as Nur Aida Nur Muhammad, and another child aged 11, fell into the drain. Police received the report about the incident at 6.07pm. Public members rescued the other child, while the strong current swept away Nur Aida. It is understood that both children were on their way home from school when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, the victim's father, Nur Muhammad Tufail Ahmad, 36, expressed his deep regret over not being able to fulfil Nur Aida's wish for a family holiday. Body of 10-year-old Rohingya girl who fell into drain found in river
KUALA LUMPUR: The body of a 10-year-old girl was found about six kilometres from where she was swept away by strong currents after falling into a drain yesterday evening. The victim, believed to be of Rohingya descent, was reported missing after she fell into a drain in front of the MPAJ Hall in Kampung Cheras Baru at about 6.07pm. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the search and rescue (SAR) team, which resumed operations this morning, found the girl's body in Sungai Kerayong, Taman Cheras Indah. "The body was discovered about six kilometres from where the victim was last seen," he said in a statement. The body has been sent to the Forensic Unit of Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM Hospital for a post-mortem examination. It is understood that during the incident, two Rohingya children fell into the large drain and were swept away by strong currents. One of the children was rescued by members of the public, while the other was carried away before help could arrive. Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement that personnel from the Cheras and Bandar Tun Razak stations, including the Water Rescue Unit, rushed to the scene following a distress call at 4.23pm. "Upon combing the area, they were unable to locate the victim. Around 7pm, the SAR was temporarily halted due to heavy rain and resumed at 9pm. "However, after assessing the risks involved, we called off the search at almost 10pm," it said. This morning, the SAR, led by operations commander Mohd Riduan Akhyar, resumed at 10am at the Jalan Kuari drain but yielded no results. The team then combed another area at 11.20am, leading to the river near Taman Maju Jaya, Cheras Indah, where they found the victim. The child's remains were handed over to the police.

Body of baby found in river
KUALA LUMPUR: The body of a baby was found floating in a river behind a restaurant on Jalan Klang Lama here today. The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre received a report regarding the incident at around 3 pm via a MERS999 emergency call. 'Following that, eight personnel from the Seputeh fire and rescue station, along with a fire engine, were rushed to the scene. 'The firemen retrieved the baby's body and handed it over to police for further action,' according to a statement from the Kuala Lumpur JPBM. Meanwhile, Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said preliminary investigations revealed that a witness at the scene found what appeared to be a body stuck on rocks in the river before alerting the police at 2.05 pm. 'Investigations found that the body was that of a baby boy, still with the umbilical cord attached. A post-mortem will be conducted at 1 pm tomorrow at the Forensic Department of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre,' he said in a statement. He said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth by secretly disposing of the body.
