Kekana picks Orlando Pirates star for Player of the Season

Orlando Pirates followers could agree with this. Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has named a unexpected player as his top star from the Sea Robbers.
The Player of the Season chat is on. According to Kekana, Orlando Pirates' 36-year-old veteran midfielder Makhaula was the unsung hero.
'This is my Player for the Season [Makhehleni Makhaula],' said Kekana live on SABC Sport's Soccer Zone .
'There was no Pirates without this player, and I'll tell you why, he gave them stability in the midfield. Those who played in the midfield in the highest level they'll tell you that without this man Pirates they were nowhere because he gave them stability.
'You know he was ready to do the dirty job for Orlando Pirates. There is no Rele [Relebohile Mofokeng] without Makhaula,' concluded Kekana.

Kaizer Chiefs latest: Velebayi, Baartman - where are they?

Kaizer Chiefs will kick off the 2025-26 Betway Premiership season without two of their signings in Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman. And that's because the saga involving the two players and Cape Town Spurs appears to be far from over. As previously reported by The South African, Chiefs did seal the Velebayi deal but later Spurs contested it. Spurs claim that both Velebayi and Baartman belong to them as they have existing contracts to keep them. This despite the fact that Spurs were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League; an amateur league in South African football. Players in the amateur ranks do not have binding contracts with their teams. In fact, their contracts are season-to-season. Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman in action for Cape Town Spurs at the Athlone Stadium. Image: FARPost Now, the latest is that the PSL Resolution Chamber (PSL DRC) is still going through all the evidence presented by all parties. Spurs believe the two players – Velebayi and Baartman – have no leg to stand, and that they should report back to training. However, the two youngsters are training alone, and have not reported for pre-season at Ikamva as the matter is ongoing. Chiefs, on the other hand, are waiting on the sidelines for the final verdict before they can register their men with the PSL. Nonetheless, the wait could be prolonged by the disputes between the parties involved and the PSL DRC taking time to make a ruling. Orlando Pirates ban Orbit College stars, including Saleng!

Monnapule Saleng will NOT feature whenever Orbit College come up against Orlando Pirates this season. This is because of a clause Pirates inserted when striking a season-long loan deal with Orbit College. And it's NOT only Saleng who will be affected by the said clause but Thuso Moleleki and Yanga Madiba as well. The three players were deemed surplus to requirements by Pirates this season, but Orbit came to the fore to sign them. Orbit College are scheduled to face Pirates in the league on 26 August at Orlando Stadium. The return fixture is penciled for 23 May 2026 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg. Nonetheless, there is still a possibility of two teams playing each other in both the Carling Knockout Cup and Nedbank Cup. Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng. Image.
