Roy Keane has pointed Mikel Arteta question despite Arsenal win over Man Utd

Former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane has questioned Arsenal's mentality after they settled for a slender 1-0 triumph at Old Trafford.
Riccardo Calafiori's strike proved sufficient for the Gunners on this occasion, though such narrow margins may not always deliver the goods.
The previous campaign saw Mikel Arteta's men pay a hefty price for surrendering advantageous positions.
Arsenal held the lead in seven of their final eight fixtures yet managed just three victories, squandering commanding positions against Everton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.
"You wonder why Arsenal are still coming up short - it's because they are still happy to sit back at 1-0," Keane remarked on Sky Sports, reports the Mirror.
"And then you think, is that the reason you drew so many games last year?".
"You compare that to Man City and Liverpool. They are always looking to go on and get the second or the third. Even on a bad day they can score two or three goals."
Both Liverpool and City netted four times during the season's opening weekend, though the defending champions were hauled back from 2-0 to 2-2 before eventually overcoming Bournemouth.
Keane's observation regarding draws references Arsenal's tally of 14 stalemates in the league, leaving them 10 points adrift of Liverpool despite suffering an identical number of defeats.
Fellow pundit Micah Richards praised Arsenal's defensive resilience.
Nevertheless, he seemed to suggest that a more adventurous attacking approach might eliminate the necessity for such rearguard actions. "It's how much you can dig deep," Richards said.
"What has helped Arsenal stay in title races in recent years is that when they get into that low block, they are very difficult to break down. Then you add in the set-pieces and they are a good team. I would just like to see them be a little more brave."
Arsenal manager Arteta harboured no illusions about the standard of his side's performance but remained pleased with the outcome. "We came here away and won which is a big result," the Spaniard said.
"We were clearly not at our best. We attacked the box and we reacted well to unusual mistakes. The team reacted time after time in an incredible way. Very proud of that because that is why we got the opportunity to win the game.
"We showed a resilience and a will to win. They put you on the ropes here, you will have to have moments when you suffer. To find a way to win at this ground, I'm very happy with the team."

Arsenal set to hijack Tottenham's move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

ARSENAL ARE set to hijack north London rivals Tottenham's pursuit of Eberechi Eze as they await news on Kai Havertz's knee injury. As late as Tuesday, Spurs appeared to be in the driving seat for the forward, with talks progressing over a deal for the 27-year-old. Advertisement However, the PA news agency understands the Gunners are now exploring a move, with reports suggesting the England international prefers a switch to Mikel Arteta's side. Their interest has accelerated after Havertz was forced off in Sunday's victory over Manchester United, although sources insist it is still too early to give a prognosis on the Germany international. Eze, whose £68 million (€78.5 million) release clause expired on Friday, played 84 minutes of the weekend draw at Chelsea and trained on Wednesday ahead of Palace's Conference League play-off at home to Fredrikstad, with head coach Oliver Glasner insisting he and captain Marc Guehi, a target for Liverpool, would start the European tie. 'Before Chelsea, I think many of you were surprised that Marc and Ebs started and played almost the whole game,' he said. 'Most of you will be surprised that they will start again tomorrow because of all the rumours. But again, they are committed.' Eze was released by Arsenal as a 13-year-old.

Alexander Isak transfer saga explained with 'broken trust' behind toxic storm

Alan Shearer has urged Alexander Isak to "sack his agent on the spot" for giving him "bad advice". Isak has been at the heart of this summer's most bitter transfer row as he seeks to depart Newcastle United and join Premier League champions Liverpool. The 25 year old Swede has made his position crystal clear to the Magpies that he has no desire to feature at St. James' Park this campaign. This resulted in him being omitted from the squad for their opening Premier League fixture against Aston Villa, which finished 0-0. Newcastle turned down a £110million offer from Liverpool earlier this month, reports the Mirror. At present, they remain steadfast in their position, refusing to consider any bids beneath their £150million valuation of the striker, who remains tied to the club until 2028. Isak penned a six-year contract, without a release clause inserted, when he signed for Newcastle in 2022. And on Tuesday night, he broke his silence on the matter, insisting "promises have been broken" and "trust has been lost" between the club and player. That indicates the forward feels he was given some kind of assurance – either regarding a bumper new contract or being allowed to leave for a lesser fee. However, Magpies legend Shearer believes Isak was naïve to rest his hopes on a supposed 'gentleman's agreement' in the first place, before slamming his agent, Vlado Lemic, for not inserting a release clause in his contract in the first place. A frustrated Shearer told Betfair: "I mean, oh my God, what a f***ing mess his agent has made of this, honestly. If I was him [Isak], I'd get his agent in a room and sack him on the spot immediately, because he is meant to be giving him the advice to sign that six‐year deal and there's no get‐out clause. "I mean, it's ridiculous. And to take anyone's word in football... it's nonsensical to say that someone said, 'Oh, I'll be able to get out at the end of the season.' Really? I mean, come on." Reports claim the Newcastle talisman was promised a bumper new contract by Amanda Staveley, but she and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi sold their stake in the club to the Saudi Public Investment Fund in July 2024. It is reported that Paul Mitchell, who later joined as the club's sporting director, immediately cancelled talks with the player, believing the three years left on his contract meant he didn't need a new one. Shearer has now called on Isak to state exactly what was promised to him in order to clarify the situation. Instead of blaming Isak, the former England captain doubled down on his criticism of the player's agent. He added: "Newcastle have also released a statement saying that promises were not broken, or promises were never made. I've always said there are two sides to every story, but my feelings are exactly the same: he's gone about it in the wrong way. "I get that he might want to join a huge football club in Liverpool. I understand that, and I understand that they're regularly going to be competing for trophies. But we also need to know, who promised him? What did they promise him? When did they promise him, if that is the case? Newcastle have totally denied that. "I'd also ask the question, who's advising him? He signed his six‐year contract without a release clause in it. That is his doing, that is his agent's doing. Now, if they foresaw someone trying to get out early, then before they signed that they were in a really strong position. They should have had a get‐out clause in it. That would be my take on it. "Everything sort of boils down to: I think he's being given bad advice and the way he's going about it is wrong, I really do."
