Helping people overcome addictions — That's the mission of an organization that got a visit from Loving Giving Local.
In more than 56 years of service in Pennsylvania, Gaudenzia has helped more than 350,000 people recover their lives.
'Gaudenzia is a treatment provider in Erie for substance abuse disorders and mental health conditions. And wherever you are in your recovery journey, we have a program for you,' said Lisa Hermann-Bradley, program director.
Gaudenzia offers withdrawal management and residential treatment services, and both traditional and intensive outpatient services.
Hermann-Bradley said, 'All our treatment services are individualized, with group and individual services. We even have a couple residential programs that are specifically for women and women with children. where their children can be with them in treatment if that would be a barrier to getting help. Whatever we need, we can provide.'
Hermann-Bradley said it's a lifelong journey of wellness and recovery just like any other illness.
'The best thing we can do is instill hope in others and let them know there is another way to live,' said Hermann-Bradley.
Gaudenzia was this week's recipient of $250 from Auto Express. In presenting the check, Joe Askins of Auto Express said, 'Guadenzia provides programs that are necessary to our community so for us to be able to deliver Loving Giving Local here today and to learn the donation we bring is going to go toward something fun for their clients. That's what loving giving local is all about.'.

Southern Utah emergency managers prepare for flash flooding

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah () — Emergency officials are warning of possible flash flooding this week in southern Utah, including areas like Zion National Park, Snow Canyon, Red Cliffs and Grand Staircase. With storms slowly building across the region, Jason Bradley with Washington County Emergency Management Operations says many of southern Utah's most popular outdoor destinations could quickly become dangerous. 'Any of our low lying slot canyons and dry wash areas can be problematic for us,' Bradley said. The danger isn't always going to be obvious — floodwaters can surge into canyons from storms miles away, even when skies overhead are clear. And even the most experienced hikers and researchers aren't immune to the risks. Stage 1 fire restrictions issued for multiple southwest Utah counties 'We've had a death in the last year or two from somebody that was actually studying hydrology, and they were killed by a flash flood, they didn't heed the warnings,' Bradley added. Washington County emergency teams say they're ready to respond if need, but they would much rather have visitors make safe choices and stay out of danger. And when it comes to floodwaters, the outcome can be tragic. 'A lot of time when it comes to flood waters and flash floods, it's not a rescue, it's a recovery,' Bradley said. 'So it's really important that you pay attention ahead of time and not be there and avoid flood waters.' ' The Cancer Wellness Center is a calm, attractive space that offers recreational and educational opportunities, a library, a room for children, a space for exercise and movement classes, and even a wig salon providing dozens of options for those who need hair. The cancer wellness center also offers group therapy and has a space that many organizations use for that. All the services available here are available to cancer patients and their families free of charge. Wassel said, 'There is already a huge financial burden on those that are faced with cancer, and we want to make sure they have no other worries as far as costs go here. And luckily, we have a very generous community that provides us with the support to continue this great work. This week's Loving Giving Local donation from Auto Express Resale Ctr will be used for something new coming to the Wellness Center, programming specifically for men. 'They are a population that is difficult,' Wassel suggested. 'Ya know, difficult to serve and bring in, so we're hoping to expand that.' In making his donation, Joe Askins of Auto Express said, 'For us to be able to deliver Loving Giving Local and learn all that they do, not only for the patient going through cancer but the family members to help them along their journey, so for us to be able to bring that donation today and to learn that it's going to one of their men programs to help men with cancer and family of men with cancer, that's what Loving Giving Local is all about and we're excited to be able to be here and bring this donation.'
