Goh Sze Fei-Izzuddin lead Malaysia's charge as six pairs reach Japan Open quarters
According to Free Malaysia Today, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani defeated Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa and Kyohei Yamashita 21‑19, 21‑18 in a 38‑minute match.
Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun endured a 65‑minute battle against China's Huang Di and Liu Yang, emerging victorious 21‑19, 14‑21, 22‑20.
These victories bring the total number of Malaysian men's and mixed doubles pairs in the quarter‑finals of the Super 750 World Tour tournament in Tokyo to six.
Earlier in the day, mixed doubles pairs Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat–Shevon Jemie Lai also secured their quarter‑final berths, as did men's pairs Nur Azriyn Ayub–Tan Wee Kiong and Ong Yew Sin–Teo Ee Yi.
Defending champions Sze Fei and Izzuddin are set to face either Indonesian world No. 5 Fajar Alfian–Shohibul Fikri or Denmark's 20th‑ranked Rasmus Kjaer–Frederik Sogaard.
World No. 7 duo Wei Chong and Kai Wun will meet the world No. 3 South Korean pair of Kim Won Ho–Seo Seung Jae, who have reached six finals this year, winning the Malaysia, German, All‑England, and Indonesia Opens.
The Malaysian pair last faced the South Koreans at the Orleans Masters in March, where they were defeated in straight games.
Winners of the doubles events will receive US$70,300 (RM298,600) while runners‑up earn US$33,250.

Career high: Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah hit world No. 2 in BWF rankings, best Malaysian women's pair in 16 years
KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — National top women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah have risen to a career-high world number two in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released today. Pearly-Thinaah climbed one spot with 89,416 points, trailing only China's Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning, who remain in the top position with 111,634 points. Former national women's doubles pair, Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty were the last Malaysian pair to reach this high, back in 2009. Meanwhile, another national pair, Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing, broke into the top 20, moving up two spots to rank 20th with 45,090 points. Malaysian shuttlers head to Denmark for high-intensity camp ahead of World Championships
KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — The national singles shuttlers are heading to Denmark, and it's training, not pastries, on the menu. With the World Championships 2025 in Paris fast approaching, national singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen said the squad will undergo a week-long training camp at the Denmark national training centre in Copenhagen ahead of the prestigious tournament, which runs from August 25-31. Jonassen, who requested the arrangement, said the training stint with the Danish national team is aimed at raising the Malaysian players' sparring intensity, exposing them to a different training environment, and helping them adapt to European conditions. 'We found that it would be a good solution for us to go and get some additional higher sparring level and to acclimatise (in Europe) 'So for us, I see it as a win-win situation, and we cherish this opportunity to go and prepare well for the World Championship,' he told reporters when met at a training session here today. When asked whether Malaysian players would train alongside Danish stars such as Anders Antonsen, the 51-year-old said such matters were beyond his control. 'I expect there will be top players there, but in what capacity, how many sessions per day, and other details, that's not up to me.
