Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav called the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi a "very painful" incident and urged families to be more cautious while making decisions about marriage and allowing children to travel far from home.Raja Raghuvanshi (29) was found dead in a deep gorge in Meghalaya on June 3, more than two weeks after he travelled to the northeastern state for his honeymoon with his wife, Sonam (25). This is a very difficult case," he added. Raja and Sonam were married on May 11 in Indore. Police sources said Sonam began plotting the murder after returning briefly to her maternal home on May 15. To delay intimacy with Raja and buy time, she persuaded him to visit the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati before heading to Meghalaya for their honeymoon.advertisementThe couple checked out of a homestay in Nongriat on May 23. Ten days later, Raja's body was discovered in a gorge, 20 km away, while a search was launched for the missing Sonam.According to police, Sonam's accomplices—Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—assaulted and killed Raja before dumping his body. All three are reportedly friends of Raj Kushwaha, who is also accused of plotting the murder with Sonam.Sonam resurfaced and surrendered on June 8 at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur. All five accused are currently in the custody of Meghalaya Police for further investigation.Raja's mother initially expressed disbelief about Sonam's involvement but gradually became convinced of her possible role. Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 12 (ANI): The Chhattisgarh police booked 21 individuals in Raipur for allegedly detaining and assaulting three people on suspicion of practising black magic. The incident occurred on the night of March 13 during Holika Dahan celebrations, but an FIR was registered only on June 9, following a directive from a local court in Raipur. In their complaint, the victims identified as Tilak Sahu, Naresh Sahu and Amar Singh Sahu alleged that the group of people held them hostage after suspecting that the victims were practising black magic at the crematorium of the village. The victims alleged that the accused looted their valuables, forced them to wear garlands made of slippers, smeared black colour on their faces, paraded them semi-naked through the village, rubbed chilli powder on bleeding wounds, and repeatedly tortured them even after they fell unconscious. Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Lal Umed Singh said, 'On the suspicion of practising black magic at the cremation ground, a group of people nabbed and assaulted the victims. The incident took place on the night of Holika Dahan. Following a plea in court by the victims, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).' The SP confirmed that the names of 21 accused have surfaced so far, and a detailed investigation is underway, including verification of claims relating to witchcraft or black magic. Robert Vadra misses ED appearance due to flu, says he's cooperating
New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Advocate Suman Jyoti Khaitan, counsel for businessman Robert Vadra, on Tuesday addressed the media through a virtual press conference to clarify his client's absence from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) appearance in a money laundering case. Khaitan, speaking via Zoom, said recent media reports wrongly implied that Vadra was evading ED summons. 'These reports are misleading. Vadra developed flu-like symptoms and was advised to undergo a COVID-19 test, which he has taken. He is following all necessary health precautions,' Khaitan stated. Reaffirming Vadra's cooperation with the investigation, Khaitan said, 'He has willingly offered to join the probe through virtual mode and has previously submitted voluminous documentation to the ED.' The lawyer further stated that Vadra's prior appearances, including a three-day questioning in April in a separate money laundering case linked to a 2008 Haryana land deal. Khaitan also disclosed that Vadra plans to travel abroad later this month to attend his daughter's graduation ceremony, but remains open to participating in the ED probe either before or after the trip. Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was summoned by the ED recently in connection with a case involving UK-based arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. Sources said Vadra sought a deferment of the summons and will be given a new date for recording his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In 2023, the ED filed a chargesheet alleging that Bhandari purchased and renovated a property at 12, Bryanston Square, London, on Vadra's instructions and with his financial support--an allegation Vadra strongly denies. He has dismissed the case as a 'political witch hunt' aimed at 'harassing him for political reasons.' Addressing media persons at the BJP headquarters in the national capital, Patra said, 'Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house, located in Bangladesh, was attacked and damaged... His Kacharibari, built by his grandfather, has been attacked. We are getting to know that the people of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam carried out this attack. It is also coming to light that this was a pre-planned attack. For five days, it was planned that the house of Rabindranath Tagore, the foundation and pillar of our civilisation and culture of Bengal, would be attacked so that they could send a big message to the world. It was a planned attack.' 'Rabindranath Tagore is no ordinary personality. When his house was attacked, his way of thinking was attacked; we appeal to the world community to come together against this. This is the appeal of the BJP, a party that believes in inclusiveness.
