Superstar Spotlight: Keeley Parks breaks Norman girls basketball all-time scoring record

Yahoo25-02-2025

In January, Keeley Parks became Norman High School's (Oklahoma) all-time leading scorer, surpassing 1,455 points. And she did it in style, averaging more than 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals as a senior.
Parks is committed to Kansas for good reason. She currently profiles as a combo guard who can shoot but can also handle the ball when needed. In college, her rebounding prowess could allow her to develop into more of a small forward on the wing. In short, depending on what the Jayhawks need she should be able to help anywhere in the backcourt.

As a junior, Parks was named the Oklahoma Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Also, she was the OKC Metro High School Sports Awars Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 26.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.6 steals.
Most impressively, she led a team that had graduated 10 seniors to within a game of the Class 6A state tournament. She also had 51 points in a game against Midwest City.
Parks is listed as No. 16 on USA TODAY High School Sports' 25 in '25 Girls Basketball Recruiting Rankings.
She will enter the postseason as the favorite to repeat as the top girls basketball awards winner at the 2024-25 OKC Metro High School Sports Awards, which are June 10 at the Young Family Athletic Center in Norman. The Girls Basketball Player of the Year Award is Presented by the Young Family Athletic Center.

Chicago defensive tackle Brayden Parks set to visit Notre Dame for Irish Invasion

Chicago defensive tackle Brayden Parks set to visit Notre Dame for Irish Invasion The godson of a Notre Dame legend is on his way to South Bend. Class of 2027 defensive tackle Brayden Parks will participate in the program's Irish Invasion event this weekend. Parks just so happens to have some Fighting Irish lineage as his godfather is Chris Zorich, who was an All-American nose guard on ND's 1988 national championship team. Zorich is also good friends with Parks' father, Marlon, since their days as high school teammates at Chicago Vocational. Additionally, his second cousin is Tony Jones Jr., who played running back for the Irish from 2016 to 2019. The Brother Rice (Chicago, IL) product recently wrapped up a visit to Oregon where he camped and impressed, and a trip to Ohio State follows after his visit with the Fighting Irish. The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder has a rare blend of speed, quick feet and power for his size, and his recruitment is just heating up. Auburn, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Texas and USC are among the schools who have offered him. He has been clocked running a 4.8-second 40-yard dash and has a 350-pound bench press. Certainly he is a rare breed. Parks is teammates with Quentin Burrell, a top wide receiver prospect whom the Fighting Irish are interested in as well. Parks is part of a strong contingent of defensive line talent in the Chicago area, which also features 2028 prospect Caleb "Bonecrusher" Tucker, a 6-foot-5, 367-pound defensive tackle from reigning Illinois Class 7A champ Mount Carmel (Chicago, IL). Because of his numerous visits to South Bend throughout his life, Notre Dame fans have reason to be optimistic that Parks could play on the Irish defensive line like his godfather. ‘He's just different': KU freshman Darryn Peterson already has teammate's attention

Prolific Prep guard Darryn Peterson (24) dribbles the ball as he sets up a move in the second half of the Grind Session High School Basketball World Championships against DME Academy at Coffin Sports Complex on Saturday, March 22, 2025 in Lawrence, Kansas. Kansas freshman Darryn Peterson hasn't been in Lawrence long, but he's already had a memorable first practice. His current favorite teammate is newcomer and Loyola-Chicago transfer Jayden Dawson. 'Me and Jayden Dawson were killing it yesterday in the three-on-three and four-on-four,' Peterson said. Advertisement The former five-star recruit, nicknamed 'Bucket Jones' by his father, Darryl, has already made quite an impression on his teammates and coach Bill Self. Self called Peterson a 'generational talent' Monday. Dawson didn't quite say that, but the word generational was also thrown around. 'He's just different,' Dawson told The Star about Peterson. 'He's just one of those generational athletes that you don't really come across. It's just special. You can just see it based on his talent alone. This summer alone, he's going to grow so much. Just the talent alone — not too many players you can see that's as good as him.' Dawson has NBA dreams; it's one of the reasons why he picked the Jayhawks. Peterson will certainly command plenty of NBA attention as a contender for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Advertisement 'DP being the projected number one pick, that's just going to put eyes on me,' Dawson said. 'Bringing NBA scouts and NBA GMs every day for practices and games is exactly what I need for me to get where I want to get to.' That synergy between Dawson and Peterson will be pivotal for the Jayhawks. Dawson is the only player currently on KU's roster who shot above 35% from 3 last season. He averaged 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists a game last season for the Ramblers. Dawson will compete for one of the starting roles alongside Peterson. 'It felt good just being able to be on his side, being his teammate, watching what he can do, which is crazy,' Dawson said. ' I think we complement each other's game really, really well. Being able to shoot the ball as well as we can, I think it just opens up the floor for us so much. Advertisement 'We already have that connection a little bit finding each other. I think it's going to be really special.' Finding the right running mates alongside Peterson has been work in progress for Self and his staff. Multiple players who were linked to KU through the transfer portal told The Star that Peterson recruited them, and Self discussed their fit alongside Peterson. Dawson was no different. He's known about the former five-star recruit for a while. Dawson recalled seeing the battles between Peterson and BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa at the high school level. Peterson and Dybantsa were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the class of 2025 by 247Sports. Dawson also got to see a young Peterson firsthand at a basketball camp and came away impressed with his ability to get buckets. Advertisement As for what KU fans and his teammates can expect from Dawson? 'I'm just going to be that guy that's going to do whatever is asked of him,' Dawson said. 'If I gotta dive on a loose ball, I'll dive on it. If I (have) to hit an open 3 and sit in the corner (I'll do it.) If I (have) to guard the best player, I'll do whatever is asked of me. 'Knowing I'm that vet – I'm one of the vets on the team — I'll do whatever is asked of me.'

WNBA Player Released After 48-Point Blowout Defeat

WNBA Player Released After 48-Point Blowout Defeat originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Connecticut Sun are off to a dreadful 1-6 start to the 2025 WNBA season, and Sunday's blowout loss to the defending champion New York Liberty was by far their worst yet. It ended up being the second-largest margin of victory in WNBA history and a new franchise record for the Liberty. Advertisement New York led 90-36 before the start of the fourth quarter, closing out a dominant 100-52 win. The margin of victory wasn't the only notable stat. New York also tied their WNBA record with 19 3-pointers in the game, set on May 22, 2025, against the Chicago Sky. The Liberty also tied a league record with seven 3-pointers in the first quarter. The Sun will try to put this loss behind them and add another win to the column on Friday against the Atlanta Dream. However, on Monday, they announced that forward Robyn Parks has been released. "Today, the Connecticut Sun announced that the team has waived Robyn Parks," the team wrote in a press release. Over those outings, she totaled just two points, nine rebounds and two assists. The most minutes she played (20) came on May 20 against the Las Vegas Aces. Advertisement The 32-year-old is in only her second WNBA season, having played 37 games for the Chicago Sky in 2023. The Sun also added in their press release that Parks will join the Greek Women's National Team at the 2025 FIBA Women's EuroBasket Championship in a few weeks. Parks played three seasons of college basketball at VCU, appearing in 15 games. In her final season, she averaged 21.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
