Andhra temple wall collapse: Preliminary enquiry reveals structure constructed illegally
VISAKHAPATNAM: A preliminary enquiry into the retaining wall collapse at Simhachalam, which claimed seven lives during the Chandanotsavam festival on April 30, has revealed that the structure was constructed without formal approvals and in violation of the temple's master plan.
The three-member committee appointed by the Andhra Pradesh government to investigate into the incident completed its initial inquiry in Visakhapatnam on Friday and has since departed for Amaravati.
'Based on our findings so far, everything was done in a hasty manner, based merely on verbal instructions,' said S Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary of the MA&UD Department and chairman of the inquiry committee.
The committee also includes Inspector General of Police Ake Ravi Krishna and Engineer-in-Chief (FAC) of the irrigation department, Venkateswar Rao.

J-K DGP reviews security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra, Eid-Ul-Adha and upcoming events
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 2 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, on Monday, chaired a joint meeting with officers from the Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at Police Control Room Kashmir to review the security arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2025, Eid-Ul-Adha and other upcoming events. At the onset of the meeting, the participating officers briefed the chair regarding the proposed security arrangements for the conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2025 and the upcoming Eid-Ul-Adha, emphasising the significance of effective coordination among the various forces. According to a release, during the meeting, J-K DGP issued directions for implementing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and also emphasised the importance of proactive measures in mitigating risks and ensuring the safety and security of the participants. He also directed the field officers to intensify their efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem, ensuring robust security arrangements for the upcoming events. DGP instructed the officers to bolster security measures and mitigate potential risks by deploying Anti-Sabotage teams along the yatra routes. He also directed the officers to enhance surveillance and threat detection capabilities by utilising advanced technologies and real-time monitoring. The meeting concluded with a resolve to ensure the highest level of preparedness and coordination for the smooth and successful conduct of all the events. The meeting was attended by Spl. DGP Coord. Shri Amarnathji Yatra is scheduled from July 3 to August 9. As the sacred yatra approaches, coordination between departments, early security deployments, and structured logistical planning are being emphasised to ensure the safe passage and spiritual experience of every pilgrim heading to Baba Barfani's darshan. The holy festival of Eid al-Adha, also known as the 'festival of sacrifice' or Greater Eid, is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic or lunar calendar. This year, the festival is likely to be celebrated on June 7. Eid al-Adha is the second Islamic festival of the year and follows Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. The date changes every year, as it's based on the Islamic lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Western 365-day Gregorian calendar. Gurugram: GPCSSI 2025 launched to promote cybersecurity awareness
Gurugram, Jun 2 (PTI) Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East, Gaurav Rajpurohit, inaugurated the 12th edition of the prestigious Gurugram Police Cyber Security Summer Internship (GPCSSI 2025) here on Monday, an official said. Highlighting the growing shift from physical crimes to digital threats, the DCP in his address at the event at DAV Public School, Sector 49, here emphasized the importance of cyber awareness among youth. He underlined the pivotal role interns will play as cyber ambassadors and cyber warriors in promoting cyber hygiene in their communities. The internship this year witnessed over 12,000 applications, said a Gurugram Police spokesperson. The internship this year witnessed an overwhelming response with over 12,000 applications, out of which 1,100 interns have been shortlisted — 550 cyber warriors (comprising undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate students and working professionals) and 550 cyber ambassadors (students from Grade 9 to 12), making it a truly PAN-India representation. The spokesperson said the interns will undergo intensive hands-on training in cybersecurity, cyber hygiene, investigations and tool development over the next month. Abducted clerk rescued, hunt to nab culprits underway
1 2 3 Chatra: A 35-year-old clerk (Munshi) of a private construction company, who was abducted by armed criminals on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday from the site of an under-construction bridge, was rescued by the police on Monday. Chatra SP Sumit Kumar Agarwal said Dharmendra Gupta was rescued from Hazaribag, but refused to divulge further details saying raids were underway arrest the kidnappers. Gupta, police sources said, was abducted from the site of an under-construction bridge over Purvaiya River at Balbal under Giddhaur police station limits. The bridge is being built by a private company for the rural works department. The miscreants robbed two CCTV cameras, 14 mobile phones, two helmets and other items. The miscreants, bike borne and armed, had hid their faces with towels, labours in the construction site told the police. At first, they dismantled the CCTV cameras and took away the mobiles and other belongings. They forced Gupta to sit on one of their bikes and drove off, the labours told the police on Saturday. Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar Agarwal said, "He has been recovered safely Hazaribag district. I can't say anything more at this moment as raids are ongoing in this regard."
