Israel-Iran tensions: Israel says achieved 'aerial superiority' over Iran's capital; India to assess impact on trade
Israel and Iran traded air strikes for a third consecutive day after Tel Aviv launched a massive surprise attack on Tehran that killed its top military officials, senior scientists and more than 60 civilians, including 20 children on June 13.
1. Death toll crosses 220 in Iran: Israel's renewed attacks on Iran on Saturday struck the country's oil reserves and hit population centres in Tehran, raising the death toll to 224, including 70 women and children.
Among the killed were the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)'s intelligence organisation, Mohammad Kazemi, and two other generals.
2. 14 killed in Israel: Iran has retaliated with missile attacks, hitting the center of Tel Aviv and causing havoc in residential suburbs, killing 14 people and wounding 390 others.
3. Iran-US nuclear talks cancelled: The surprise attacks came days before scheduled talks between U.S. and Iran on the future of Tehran's nuclear program, which has been cancelled in the wake of Israeli strikes. Israel, the sole but undeclared nuclear-armed state in the Middle East, has said its attacks were pre-emtive to stop Iran from developing a nuclear program.
4. US officials say Trump foiled Israel's plan to assassinate Khamenei: In an indication of how far Israel was seemingly prepared to go in its recent conflict with Iran, a U.S. official told The Associated Press that President Donald Trump nixed Tel Aviv's plan to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and controls the powerful Revolutionary Guard.
5. Trump calls for a deal between Iran, Israel: US President Donald Trump on Sunday called on Iran and Israel to "make a deal," and stressed he would be able to mediate talks between the warring sides.
The statement came hours after in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, he sought to distance US from Israel's attacks on Iran.

In poll-bound Bihar, PM to flag off export of locomotives to Guinea
PM Narendra Modi (File photo) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off export of the first locomotive from Marhowrah factory in Saran for Guinea in West Africa on Friday, signalling the NDA govts' — both at Centre and state — thrust on accelerating economic activities in poll-bound Bihar. Railway ministry officials said that 150 Make in India Evolution Series (ES43ACmi) locomotives for SimFer's Simandou iron ore project in Guinea worth more than Rs 3,000 crore are being manufactured. Simandou will be Africa's largest mining project. 'In the current financial year, 37 locomotives will be exported, another 82 locomotives will be shipped out in 2026-27 and the remaining 31 locomotives in the third year,' said an official. Though the Marhowrah diesel locomotive factory (DLF) was announced by then railway minister Lalu Prasad, it remained inactive. Spread over 70 acres, the factory was established in 2018 to indigenously manufacture 1,000 state-of-the-art locomotives. The annual production capacity of the factory is over 100 locomotives. The contract to export the locomotives was awarded to Wabtec Locomotive Private Ltd, a joint venture between Indian Railways and US-based Wabtec Corporation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo All these locomotives will have AC cabs. Each locomotive will have a single cab. Two locomotives together can carry the load of 100 wagons with maximum permissible speed. 'For manufacturing of these locomotives, three types of tracks — broad gauge, standard gauge and Cape guage have been laid in Marhowrah premises,' said another railway official. Officials said with the Indian Railway network achieving full electrification, there is a huge scope for exporting diesel locos to countries where there is demand. 'It's an opportunity to increase our export of locos that match the best standard across the globe. For Bihar, it will be a big milestone,' said an official.

Why can't Israel destroy this Iranian nuclear site which is dubbed as 'indestructible fortress'? Site is..., will require US...
(Centrifuge machines in the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in central Iran in 2019. AP) New Delhi: Israel is bent on destroying Iran's nuclear bases with full force. Israeli Air Force is continuously bombing different parts of Iran including Tehran to which Tehran is also replying. There has been devastation in cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa. Many areas have been shaken by Iran's destructive advanced ballistic missiles. Amidst all this, at least 14 nuclear scientists of Iran have been killed in Israeli attacks. But in this entire campaign, one place is still standing firm, that is Fordo Nuclear Fuel Enrichment Plant, which is not only the heart of Iran's nuclear capability but has now become a puzzle that even powerful countries like Israel are unable to solve. Although Israel has bombed here too, but now the whole world is watching whether Israel will be able to break this fortress? Fordo nuclear plant Fordo is not an ordinary nuclear plant, but it is hidden inside a hill 20 miles from the city of Qom in central Iran and about 100 miles from Tehran. It is called the fortress of Iran's nuclear programme, because it is built so deep in the hill that it is not easy to break it. Its structure has made it a 'nuclear fortress'. It is very difficult to break it only by bombing, rather scientific methods and deep strategy will have to be used to break it. Many experts believe that Israel is trying to do the same. This hideout is located in the base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), and to break it, insanely powerful bunker buster bombs will be needed which can be dropped from American B-2 bombers and this is the reason why the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is repeatedly asking for help from America. Construction of Fordow, a fortress Iran knows that Israel can cross every limit to destroy Fordow. That is why it has built it very cleverly by surrounding it with air defense systems. If Israel really wants to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities, then it will have to destroy Fordow. Its biggest strength is its design. It is dug deep inside the mountains, most of which is 90 meters below the earth's surface. In 2009, when the intelligence agencies of America, France and Britain revealed its existence, the world was stunned. Uranium enrichment started here in 2011 and today this site generates up to 60% pure uranium. That means Iran is just one step away from making nuclear bomb. What makes Fordo almost indestructible? Israel has bunker busters like GBU-28 and GBU-31 that can penetrate concrete up to a depth of about 6–10 meters. But to destroy Fordo, a bomb that can penetrate up to 61 meters is needed, which only America's GBU-57 MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) can do. America can destroy Fordo by dropping GBU-57 MOP bombs from its B-2 bomber, but politically it does not want to get involved in this conflict. Apart from this, Fordo is a symbol of Iran's strategic prestige and ideology. It is under the tight security of IRGC, where air defense systems like S-300, underground tunnels, multi-layer shields and electronic jamming systems are present. This is the reason why any attack on Fordo is not possible. A single attack, be it cyber, missile or ground operation, will not work alone. To destroy it, it will have to be attacked simultaneously at many levels, and that too repeatedly.
