‘Isolated in nature': Horry County official says no public threat remains in aftermath of Little River charter boat shooting
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — As the investigation into Sunday night's mass shooting on a chartered party boat in Little River continued Wednesday without an arrest, an Horry County Police Department spokesperson reiterated that it was an isolated incident.
The shooting aboard the Hurricane II, based in Calabash, North Carolina, occurred while the boat was docked and wounded 11 people, three of whom remained in the hospital on Tuesday, Horry County Police Chief Kris Leonhardt said at a news conference on Tuesday.
News13 asked Horry County officials on Wednesday for an update on the search for the shooter, information about evidence and whether the public should be concerned about safety in the wake of the shooting.
'Based upon various incident details pertinent to the investigation, the shooting is believed to be isolated in nature,' Horry County police spokesperson Mikayla Moskov said. 'There is currently no intel to suggest the incident has the potential to expand beyond what already occurred Sunday.'
Asked why the police department waited until Tuesday — two days after the incident — to speak about the shooting publicly at a news conference, Moskov said information and updates are being released when possible.
Moskov added that the investigation is 'active and ongoing,' and that 'details about evidentiary items in any active and ongoing case would not be available for release.'
Leonhardt said Tuesday that the investigation is more complex because many of those on the boat were from out of town.
Also on Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard provided News13 with information about the Hurricane II and its captain. The agency was not involved in responding to the initial incident.
'The Coast Guard attended the vessel on Monday and verified there was no resultant damage from the incident that occurred the prior evening,' a spokesman said in an email. 'The vessel had been under the control of a qualified master who holds a U.S. Coast Guard-issued merchant mariner credential that corresponds to the size and operation of the HURRICANE II.'
The Coast Guard spokesman said the number of people on the boat — 120 passengers and four crews, according to Horry County police — was within allowable limits.
News13 has reached out to Coast Guard Sector North Carolina for more information about the boat, including its certificate of inspection. Coast Guard Sector Charleston is also conducting a 'comprehensive investigation' into the incident.

Florence police arrest 2 for allegedly shooting into occupied home
FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — Two men are facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting into a home early Tuesday morning in Florence, police said. It happened at about 1:15 a.m. in the 1100 block of Hollings Avenue. No one was hurt, but two juveniles were among multiple people in the home at the time, according to police. Multiple bullets hit the home, and officers found several shell casings nearby in the road. Officers arrested Anquon Smoot and Terrez Davis after getting a description of their vehicle and identifying it using a Flock camera, police said. It was then found at a hotel on W. Lucas Street, where several people were detained and questioned, and Smoot and Davis were arrested. 'We are proud of our dedicated officers for their diligent efforts and we appreciate the assistance of the Florence County Sheriff's Office for the help in making quick arrests in this case,' Florence police said. Smoot and Davis are both charged with five counts of attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and aggravated breach of peace. Cops dramatically rescue three men left treading water in darkness after their plane crashed off Florida coast
New video shows the moment rescuers saved three men after they were left treading water when their plane crashed along Florida's Treasure Coast last weekend. Officials received a distress call at 8.24 p.m. Sunday from a single-seated Cessna 172 Skyhawk as it plunged into the waters off Vero Beach after the pilot reported engine issues. The aircraft took off from Flagler Executive Airport in Palm Coast, 150 miles to the north, just before 7 p.m. The alert sparked a multi-agency search and rescue mission. It was the Indian River County Sheriff's Office helicopter, 'Hawk,' that found the three in the water using its thermal imaging and infrared cameras. Sheriff Eric Flowers said in a press conference Monday that the helicopter pilots were unable to find any visible debris from the crash, describing the rescue mission like 'looking for a needle in a haystack' in the middle of the ocean. Instead of debris, Flowers said that helicopter pilot Deputy Jonathan Lozada eventually noticed 'three heads bobbing in the water' around 8.45 p.m. Lozada told the media that conditions were stacked against the rescue teams. 'It was very dark out there,' he said in a press conference Monday. 'Even though we have night vision goggles, we're still very limited on visibility. So for us to be able to go that far offshore, it's just unsafe for us.' Lozada said the three passengers might never have been found if more time had elapsed. At around 9:50 p.m. Sunday, officials from the Air and Marine Operations, an operational component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, found two survivors in the water, the agency said. Dillon County deputies look for convenience store robber

(WBTW) — Dillon County authorities are looking for a person who robbed the Sav-Mart convenience store in the Little Rock community Monday evening. Deputies said the suspect was wearing a mask and had a gun when they entered the store and demanded money from the clerk. It happened at about 5:20 p.m. The suspect fled with an undetermined amount of money, driving what was believed to be a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer, deputies said. The SUV, possibly a 2000-year model, left on Highway 9 West and turned right onto Highway 57 North. Deputies are asking anyone with surveillance cameras who lives in the area of Highway 9 West or Highway 57 to check their video for the SUV. Anyone with information is asked to call detective Shannon Grainger at 843-774-1432, to email sgrainger@ or to call the department's nonemergency dispatch at 843-841-3707. Tip cans can also be provided on the department's Facebook page. A private donor is offering $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
