Disney Cast Members Say to Never Enter the Parks Without These 12 Essentials—From $7 at Amazon

Disney Cast Members Say to Never Enter the Parks Without These 12 Essentials—From $7 at Amazon

Travel + Leisure4 hours ago

A trip to a Disney park is pure magic—but let's be honest, it's also a full-on marathon. From rope drop to fireworks, there's sun, miles of walking, long lines, and the occasional surprise (or not-so-surprising) splash. Whether you're planning a day or multiple days at the parks, if you want to keep the magic alive for your entire trip, packing the right travel gear for the parks is non-negotiable. And who better to turn to for advice than the pros?
From portable chargers to avoid the panic of your phone dying just as you're picking your next Lightning Lane to personal fans to beat the heat, these go-to cast member picks are all about working smarter, not harder on your trip. Think of this as your ultimate Disney survival kit—with items tested by the people who know the parks best and all conveniently available on Amazon.
To help, I spoke to Lexie Bloom, a former Disney World cast member at Magic Kingdom merchandise, as well as Epcot and Animal Kingdom attractions, and researched the most popular recommendations from other former and current cast members.
As for a park bag, Bloom prefers a sling bag to a larger backpack. 'Not only is a smaller bag more comfortable for all-day wear,' she says, 'You can flip it around and wear it on your chest for most rides so you don't have to take it all the way off and risk forgetting it!'
This best-selling Waterfly sling backpack is the perfect size and has lots of pockets and plenty of room for storing all the essentials. As one reviewer says, it's the perfect bag for Disney, with room for a water bottle, poncho, shoes, and more.
There are a few things guaranteed when you go to Disney, and two of those are heat and waiting in line–a combination that can suck the magic out of the best of us. If you don't love the heat, cast members often recommend packing a small, personal fan as a great way to beat the heat.
As one reviewer says, this fan is a 'must-have' for Orlando. 'Perfect and compact for the theme parks, and the battery life has been amazing so far.' As a bonus, it can also double as another way to charge your devices.
Any Disney fan knows that planning your meals is half the fun of a day at the parks. With countless dining spots and seasonal treats to try, Disney dining is an experience all its own. But there's one insider tip Bloom wants you to know ahead of time: don't pay for water.
'Any quick-service restaurant will give you a free cup of water if you ask,' Bloom, who worked at Disney World from 2018 through 2023, shares.
Instead of spending money on bottled water, take advantage of those free cups—or better yet, learn from experienced cast members and bring a reusable water bottle to refill throughout the day. These collapsible bottles are perfect for staying hydrated without taking up too much space in your park bag. They're durable, reusable, and collapse to nearly a third of their full size when empty. Fill them up with the free cups of water or at refill stations throughout the parks and resorts.
You're bound to get some sun during your day at Disney, and too much of a good thing—like that Florida sun—isn't so great. Cast members recommend compact sun care options like this Supergoop! Glow Stick for quick, mess-free applications. Plus, it won't spill or leak in your bag since it's solid. It's perfect for faces, shoulders, and chests.
'Saved my life in 90-degree Disney lines!' one person wrote. 'I use this on my whole family, it's so easy, just glides on, so easy to use on my kids and no rubbing!'
Other cast members suggest packing some travel-size sunscreen lotion or spray, too, for larger areas of your body like your arms and legs to keep the sunburns to a minimum.
Just like the Florida sun and heat, a bit of water—planned or not—is practically guaranteed during your Disney day.
'Rain ponchos come in small packaging, and they're light and easy to stick in your park bag,' Bloom says. 'They're perfect for the classic 3:00 p.m. Orlando rain shower or your favorite water ride. I always bring one—it's way more cost-effective than buying one in the park.'
This set includes five disposable ponchos, perfect for multiple park days or to keep the whole family dry. They're large enough to fit over a backpack or other park bag to keep your belongings dry, too.
Disney's eco-friendly efforts are fantastic, but not everyone loves the paper straws in the parks—and cast members and Disney fans alike agree: if you'd rather skip the soggy straw situation, pack your own reusable straws instead.
This straw set comes with 12 straws, cleaning brushes, and four pouches for storing them in your bag. Several reviewers say they take these along on cruises, too, as they're compact and durable, holding up to hot and cold drinks.
According to cast members, athletic wear like sporty skorts and dresses is a perfect way to stay comfortable and stylish for your Disney day. This skort romper is perfect for park days and beyond, whether it's errands or a game of pickleball. One reviewer says, 'The fit is fantastic, and the built-in shorts are perfect for preventing any thigh rubbing. It's the perfect blend of comfort and style!' Another who bought it for an upcoming Disney trip notes that it 'fits perfectly.' Whether you're chasing toddlers or chasing the perfect photo op, this romper is a go-to choice.
As much as cast members recommend finding the perfect comfortable walking shoe, they also say it's important to have a backup plan if (and when) the rain hits or if your feet need a breather after multiple days in the park. An easy way, according to cast members, to give your feet a rest or avoid soaking your socks on Tiana's Bayou Adventure is packing a pair of comfortable, durable sandals that can hold up to water, including brands like Teva, Crocs, and Reef. Made of vegan leather with plenty of traction and claiming no break-in period, these Reef flip-flops are a great option. Reviewers even say they're comfortable enough for all-day walking (if you're brave), and the brand has lots of fans at Disney.
Park days are long, and between checking wait times, booking Lightning Lane reservations, and snapping photos, your phone is going to get a workout. It's almost guaranteed that someone in your group will need a battery boost before the day is over. This portable charger powers an iPhone up to three-quarters full in just an hour, and it features a slim design that easily fits in your bag or pocket; plus, it has three USB ports so you can charge multiple devices at once.
Bloom and other cast members agree: a portable charger (or two) is a must-have to stay connected throughout your Disney day. One reviewer calls this model 'super reliable and lightweight. Great for festivals, camping, or just daily use,' making it the perfect option for a day in the parks.
You'll likely want to bring along a few small essentials, such as band-aids, gum (since you can't buy it in the parks), medication, or hair ties. Some cast members suggest putting together an 'everything' bag to keep these items organized and easily accessible. That way, you don't have to waste time rummaging through your bag when you need something quickly.
These TSA-approved clear bags are the perfect solution: they're flat and transparent, allowing you to see all your essentials at a glance. Bonus tip, since they're waterproof, these could double as a place to stash wet items (like an umbrella)—a necessity for some cast members.
If you're hoping to snag autographs from your favorite Disney characters, Bloom says the autograph books at Disney aren't cheap, so bringing your own from home is a great way to save a little money for other souvenirs or treats. This book is the perfect size to stash in your park bag but has plenty of pages for all your favorite characters to sign. One reviewer says the book was able to hold at least 20 autographs from their trip.
Autograph books are fun, but according to Bloom, there's another (more memorable) way to collect those character signatures: bring a picture frame mat instead. It's a creative swap that turns a simple autograph into a keepsake you'll want to display.
Simply bring one on your trip (or a few!), then have characters sign the blank space and frame your favorite park photo inside when you get home. It's an easy way to turn vacation magic into a personalized piece of art. This set includes six white mats (8x10 inches with a 4x6-inch opening), backing boards, and protective sleeves to keep them safe in your park bag.

NYT ‘Connections' Hints And Answers For Sunday, June 22nd

Hints, clues and answers for today's Connections are here. Looking for Saturday's NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here: I'm a little late to this Connections guide. My apologies. It was my birthday this weekend and I guess I was just too distracted by this fact – either that, or I'm just so old now that my memory is leaving me – but I absolutely spaced publishing this when I normally do. But I'm here now to help you with this tricky puzzle, so let's dive right in! How To Play Connections Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here. The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can't just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together. You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you're close, it will tell you that you're one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. What Are Today's Connections Hints? These are the hints that are laid out on the puzzle board itself, but after that, we will get into spoiler territory with some hints and eventually the answers. Today's Sunday Connections What Are Today's Connections Groups? Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today: What Are Today's Connections Answers? The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are: Today's Connections answers The tricky word in this batch was WIRE which I plugged in first with ENTOURAGE, EUPHORIA, INSECURE and SUCCESSION – all HBO shows. Well, I was right about the HBO shows, but wrong about WIRE (despite The Wire being one of the greatest shows ever made). It was actually INSECURE, the one show in this list I'm not as familiar with. I realized WIRE could go with BULLETIN and then put those with FLASH and REPORT and that worked for yellow. When I saw LIFE, LIBERTY and PURSUIT and I realized they all paired nicely with HAPPINESS. Once I'd gotten the last HBO show I plugged in the remaining four, despite not knowing how they connected. But they really all do mean 'left' in one form or another. Tricky one today! South Carolina Ranks No. 1 In Top Hidden Beaches, A New Study Says

Two beaches on South Carolina's Edisto Island are cited as hidden, secluded beaches in a new study. (Photo by: Wolfgang Kaehler/Avalon/Universal Images Group via Getty Images) Avalon/Universal Images Group via Getty Images If you are looking for a hidden, secluded beach this summer, head to South Carolina, a new study says. Five South Carolina beaches rank in the top 10 of the top 20 hidden coastal spots throughout America, according to the study by BoatBooker, a website that books boating trips throughout the country. South Carolina's Vereen Memorial Park in Little River ranks No. 1, and the state's Driftwood Beach on Edisto Island is No. 2. Other South Carolina beaches in the top 10 are Morris Island near Charleston, Station 22—Public Beach Access on Sullivan's Island and Edisto Beach State Park Campground on Edisto Island. Morris Island is uninhabited, and the island and its lighthouse are accessible only by boat. BoatBooker found the best secluded beaches by using Google maps and the search terms "secluded beaches," "hidden beaches" and "quiet beaches." It focused on locations with fewer than 100 reviews, because they are more likely less visited and off the beaten path, BoatBooker says. Each beach was then ranked using a combined score based on its average rating and number of reviews. Vacationers, though, should be forewarned: U.S. beaches are often crowded in summertime, particularly on weekends. This journalist noticed online comments saying that some of the beaches in the BoatBooker study, particularly some near major cities, were crowded when the commenters visited. California's Dana Strands Beach is one of the nation's top hidden coastal spots, a new study says. (Photo by Don Bartletti/Los Angeles Times via Getty Images) Los Angeles Times via Getty Images The study noted that 'there's nothing worse than planning the perfect beach getaway, only to find yourself elbow-to-elbow with crowds at America's most famous coastal destinations.' The most tranquil beach spots 'are not along the renowned resort communities but in state parks, nature reserves and little seashore towns.' Nine California beaches are in the top 20, which, because of ties in the ratings, included 22 beaches. The state's highest-ranking beach is No. 5 Torrey Pines City Beach in San Diego's La Jolla neighborhood. The beach. also known as Black's Beach, is famous among surfers for big winter swells, but it is better known as San Diego's nude beach, according to the San Diego Tourism Authority. The beach can be difficult to access because of its location beneath the Torrey Pines bluffs. 'Stately eight-figure mansions and state-of-the-art medical research labs now line the bluffs where pastures and the Black family horse farm once lay,' the tourism authority says. Another nude beach, Gunnison Beach in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, ranks No. 3 in the BoatBooker study. The beach is in the National Park Service's Gateway National Recreation Area. 'A portion of Area G (South Gunnison) on Sandy Hook is used by visitors as a clothing optional area,' the park service's website says. 'While this area is not designated as clothing optional, there is no prohibition against this activity. The park acknowledges the popularity and history of the use and advises unfamiliar visitors of this activity through signs. Nudity, outside the traditional use area, may be considered disorderly conduct.' The BoatBooker study ranks five North Carolina beaches in its top 20: Caswell, Ocean Isle, Carolina, Coquina and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Alabama (Gulf Shores Beach) and Texas (Beach Access #4—Beach Circle on Soth Padre Island) are the other states with beaches on the top 20 list. '2025 is all about escaping the noise and finding America's most peaceful, secret beaches,' says Vukan Simic, BoatBooker's founder. 'While everyone else is fighting for space at the famous beaches, savvy travelers can discover the authentic American coast that locals have cherished for generations."

You Asked: Best soundbars for Sony TVs and which budget Samsung QD-OLED should you choose?

On today's episode of You Asked: What's the best soundbar to pair with a Sony TV? Should you consider upgrading from the LG C3? Which Samsung QD-OLED offers the best value? And what's the best big-screen TV that won't break the bank? Best Soundbars for Your Sony TV Scott S asks: I just took the plunge and purchased the 77-inch Sony A95L to replace my 10-year-old Sony TV. Question is whether a good soundbar is worth it (assuming like a Sonos Arc) considering that I live in an apartment and the TV will only be about 10 feet away from the seating area. You have mentioned the great sound quality of the TV itself. Thanks for the question, Scott, and congrats on the new TV! The A95L is one of our all-time favorites. And while it does have solid sound quality, a top-tier TV like that deserves to be paired with something to elevate the listening experience and match the superior visuals. You mention the Sonos Arc, which is a great option, as is the Sonos Arc Ultra, which improves on an already great soundbar. I'd also say the Sonos Beam is worth taking a look at. It has a more subtle look that some prefer, but still packs the goods in terms of audio quality. I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but I'd also suggest the Sony Bravia Theater Quad, since you spared no expense on the TV purchase. The Theater Quad is not cheap, but it's a perfect pairing with your Sony TV and is well suited for your apartment. Sony's 360 Spatial Mapping does a great job dialing each speaker in based on placement. Plus, with its Acoustic Center Sync feature allowing the TV audio to act as the center channel, the Theater Quad is designed to handle odd placements throughout a room to give you the best immersive audio experience for watching shows and movies. It's also one of our favorite choices for music listening. If you want a more direct head-to-head comparison of the top choices between Sonos and Sony, we did a video on that not too long ago. You can also check out our best soundbars list. Upgrades from the LG C3 and Sony A80J? Nicolas Lacroix asks: I have had the pleasure of two OLED sets for a few years now: a Sony A80J and LG C3. What would be the upgrade path in 2025? What's going to look better? I want to go a bit bigger. My current sets are 55 inches and 65 inches, respectively. I'm also a latest gen console gamer. Talk about good problems to have — needing to upgrade your two OLED TVs. In terms of taking the next steps with two of the top TV brands, both known for outstanding picture quality, here are some options in case you're leaning one way or the other. On the Sony side, look at the Bravia 8 Mark II or the A95L. Coming from an A80J, both recommended options are equipped with QD-OLED panels, offering brighter, more vibrant, and pure colors. We've raved about the A95L to no end, and the Bravia 8 Mark II should only improve on it. However, since you mentioned wanting to go bigger than your 55-inch A80J, if you're looking at 65 inches or certainly 77, the price difference between the A95L and Bravia 8 Mark II is significant. The 65-inch A95L is currently on sale for $2,900, while the Bravia 8 Mark II sits at $4,000. Also, the Bravia 8 Mark II is not available above 65 inches. So if you're planning to purchase a pair of TVs, you might want to save where you can, and I'm not sure you'll see $1,200 worth of difference. Some even rate the A95L higher than its 'successor.' When it comes to gaming, the differences are tiny. Both have the same inputs: two HDMI 2.1 ports and two HDMI 2.0. Both support 4K 120Hz gaming and VRR with virtually zero difference in input lag. As for upgrading from your LG C3, that's still a great TV and just two years old. But if you must, I'd say jump past the C-series to the LG G5 to see a real, noticeable improvement worth spending thousands of dollars on. The four-stack OLED panel significantly improves brightness and color purity, taking the G5 beyond the already excellent G4. I mention the G4 because the new G5 costs a pretty penny, and the G4 is also a notable step up from your C3, just in case you want to save a bit. Both have four HDMI 2.1 inputs, plus a full slate of gaming features like 4K high refresh rates and VRR, making them great choices for gamers wanting to connect multiple consoles and audio devices. Samsung S95C vs. S90D: Which Should You Buy? @hermievanzyl9649 asks: For the same price, is the Samsung S95C or S90D a better option to buy and why? These are both excellent TVs. As someone who has a 2023 Samsung TV as their daily driver, I've come to love it — the picture quality holds up extremely well and the user interface is just as snappy as day one. When it comes to the two you mentioned, the S90D is a little brighter than the S95C and has slightly better picture processing. That's not saying the S95C is bad — far from it. Unless you put them side by side, I don't know if you'd notice a difference, and even then it's splitting hairs. The biggest difference is the One Connect Box that comes with the S95C. It lets you connect your external devices to the box instead of directly to the TV, giving you more flexibility with your setup, especially if your TV is hard to reach or mounted to the wall. So, if you want that setup versatility, go with the S95C. If you want slightly improved image quality, go with the S90D. I'll also say — when I saw this question, I thought, 'Where are they finding the S95C for that price right now?' Sure enough, there are a few places with it under $2,000. A solid deal for a QD-OLED, even if it's a 2023 model. Best Affordable Huge TVs Worth Buying? @Pimpincrispy1978 asks: What is the most affordable 98- to 100-inch TV that is still worth buying? I'm guessing Samsung Crystal UHD is a hard no? I'm looking for another TV that I can enjoy for another 10 years or so. Hey, you said it, not me. I'm going to go with a hard pass on the Crystal UHD, especially because Samsung has that DU9000 98-inch listed for $2,500 right now. For that money, you're still getting a pretty basic LED TV with basic HDR performance. For affordability, you should check out options from TCL and Hisense. The TCL QM6K is on sale for less than that Samsung, and you're getting a Quantum Dot Mini LED panel that supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos audio, and faster refresh rates. The QM7K only improves on that if you want to spend a bit more. The same goes for Hisense with the 100-inch U7 from 2024. It's on Amazon now for $1,900 and offers quantum dot color with full array local dimming, Dolby Vision and Atmos — the works. I know you're concerned with longevity, but I can't guarantee any TV will last 10 years. They should, and some will, depending on how much and how you use it. But I wouldn't pay more for a lesser TV just for a brand name.
